Thom, there’s a lot of people out there showing red-letter day captures (just as well it’s all digital now, otherwise there’d be miles of wasted film🤣), but you are the angler’s Angler. It’s the science behind it all that matters. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Great channel 👍

I enjoy these technical videos Thom, they are very informative. I caught my first fish on a soft plastic creature bait (that wasn't a worm bait or a fly) the other day. I recently purchased a W3 street stick rod and was very inquisitive to see how it performed (in fairness it looks like a toy when first un-bagged) so I tied on a weighted weedless offset 3gr hook and cast a Crecraw into a bay where a river enters a large Irish limestone lake. I bounced to rig down and across the current with occasional twitches. 3rd cast and nailed a small pike. Have to say the rod is probably now one of my favourites and I see great potential in creature bait fishing around here where most folks are more interested in fly fishing for the wild brown trout

Tom.i was in touch with you about my westin t crack finness rod. I was told I can use it as t.c fishing .I sorry for my spelling mistakes..Darren crays are top in spring and summer evenings fishing in Ireland.i have westin cecrew in diff colors sizes.can I use them on rod i have crank rod..thanks...
@Thomhuntfishing Жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely give it a try 👍🏻 Will not be perfect as the crank rods are designed a bit softer for hard baits, but give soft baits like the Crecraw a try should be ok 👍🏻

On a local lake that is fed via crayfish-infested river, I've caught nice pike on 12cm shadteez. I've noticed scores of crayfish and want to have a go with the crecraw. My piking tends to be more on the medium light side, 10-30g. What size would you recommend for Pike? And is there a size that's too big that would rule out chub/perch. Is there a catch-all size. I'm thinking my approach might be a red/brown crecraw, 10cm on a stand-up head. Thanks in advance.
@Thomhuntfishing3 жыл бұрын
Yep it comes in 4 sizes - 6.5cm perch and chub - 8.5cm best all rounder good for perch, chub, pike etc - 10cm more of a pike bait. Will catch large (and greedy perch) but if you were after pike specifically this is the size I’d go for - 14cm it’s huge! Really only a pike bait!

Hi Tom, love your content, eagerly awaiting your next video. 😊 Great to see you on the Westin “how to” videos too, amazing. I have just bought the w3 t&c rod, 7-21 mainly to target perch with the crecraw and ringcraw. I can’t remember which of your videos you said it on, but you said you don’t tend to use seedless setups for pike because of hookup ratios. Does that mean I shouldn’t fish for example a 9cm or a 14cm slim teez on a Carolina for pike? Is there a hook you would suggest to replace the offset hooks to make fishing shads on a Caroline more effective?
@Thomhuntfishing4 жыл бұрын
Carolina is not really a rig I’d use for pike. It could be possible if you used a wire trace and just a large standard ‘j’ hook, which would leave an exposed hook point which is what you need for pike. Or thinking about it, you could put a screw in the nose of the bait and put a single stinger on....

@@Thomhuntfishing ok great, thank you. I’m just trying to think outside of the box without totally reinventing the wheel. In these very cold conditions that we’ve got when everybody “cheats” and resorts to dead baits, I’m looking for a way of presenting a very slow and subtle slim Shad in the bottom 12” of the water. A “J hook” does sound a good option, but I’m not sure if hooked up it would make it swim upside down? Or hook pointing down drag every leaf off the bottom. I will experiment and let you know how I get on. 👍🏻
