Heck yes - I remember being a little kid fishing at a lake for stockers with a weight and worms. Old guy next to me was like "hey kid, add this marshmallow so the worm comes off the bottom and the trout can see it". Tried that and BOOM - Fish onnnn baby!! 🎣 Also taught me the clinch knot.... Cool how much a stranger is willing to teach a kid trying to catch fish 🤙

We learn from our elders. I was given some great advice when fishing for Walleye by a 90 yr old man fishing next to me. I must've been 19 at the time. We became fishing buddies until he passed on.

I just had an experience like that two weeks ago Leif. This 10 year old named Dallas came up to me, asking a bunch of questions. He hung out with me for a good two hours, and I got to show him some of my stocked trout tricks and tips. I hope he'll remember that. Angling is a gift that must be passed on to the next generation

I grew up in Idaho fishing the Big Wood River and Silver Creek. By the eighth grade, my friend Alex Stewart and I knew those two streams better than anyone in the valley. I always bait fished with stream's edge worms, grubs, grasshoppers, or I fly fished. In the 1950s guys like Ernest Hemmingway, Gary Cooper or Ted Trueblood might be fishing just down the riverbank from you and the average rainbow trout was 1 to 3 pounds with five and even occasional eight pounders shaded up somewhere deep in a hayfield slough. These two streams were idyllic trout streams with pools, riffles, and large rocks in center stream hiding big feeders with cottonwood forests and hay meadows running up and down both streambanks. Later on, in my adult life, as more and more people moved to Idaho and the quality of fishing went downhill, I learned about marshmallow fishing for trout in reservoirs and lakes. I couldn't believe it! After all the years of my youth spent fishing for trout on the Big Wood River, I was very disillusioned at my first sight of a marshmallow on the business end of a trout rod. The very idea that the wily spotted trout, that cruiser of the deep who turned down many an elk hair caddis in my early days would sucker for a marshmallow was absurd to me...

I mean not really. Trout generally school up so if you don't find the trout your fishing for water droplets. Similar to catfish, they will bite all day, if you can find the fish 😁

Hi💕, hope you’re having a good day, I hope you don’t mind me spreading the gospel with you, so here it goes just wanted you to know that God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life in a better way and eternally.But bc we disobey God and go our own sinful ways we r separated from Him,but Jesus Christ lived a perfect life for you & died on the cross and rose from the grave for you,He paid the penalty for our sins and bridged the gap between God and us so if you trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and receive Him by personal invitation you receive that free gift and eternal life, have a blessed day, byee💕

I like to tie to a 3-way swivel, then a long leader to a weight, and a shorter leader of about 12-18" to the bait, so the rod tip is more direct to the hook, the fish doesnt have to move the weight for you to detect the strike.

I have been fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout for a week at a place called Castlewellan lake in the north of Ireland. This lake is stunning . While fly fishing one day I used a quality fish finder on the boat it proved this lake has a insane amount of trout but its over 3 mile in length and over 50 foot deep. Until recently I had not fished using a bait ( worms ) in years. I tried floating and at different lengths for the dropper ... no joy . Castlewellan lake can be a hard place to catch trout but I will return on Monday and I will fish the bottom using your method with the marchmellow. Thanks for sharing.

You should consider using a sinker slide. This is a plastic hollow sleeve with a clip that allows you to easily change weights using the clip attached to the plastic sleeve. The line goes through the sleeve. It the same thing that you are doing with the slip weight.

Question about your hook choice. I fish the Watauga and South Holston for trout here in Northeast TN. Using nightcrawlers is very effective this time of year in some of the slack water runs when my flies just won't get a take. I've found that using hooks similar to your choice allows the trout to swallow the bait deep and guarantees a hookup. However, I'm 98% catch-and-release. Letting that hook be swallowed also guarantees a dying injured fish. I've started using a circle hook for my worm fishing. (I'll try adding a scented mello now!) It seems to allow for a deep take of the bait but pulls back up and hooks into the jaw/lip areas at hookset rather than down in the throat. I've found I'm getting perhaps 30% fewer hookups on a take but am killing 0% of my catch. I'm okay with that ratio. Your opinion?

I like to put my weights onto the swivel. Also use clip swivels so you can change leaders and baits easy. If I can't get them to hit worms, I'll normally work through a bubble with a 5 foot leader and just work different baits.

Brother you're rigging em totally opposite than my method lol I put the marshmallow on the hook first, then I place my European nightcrawler last. Plus Id make sure my hook point and barb isn't showing. I don't think trout are that stupid. They still have eyes and brains you know. They've been around for so long, so I wouldn't really wanna be underestimating them. I think they're smart enough to figure out which is safe to bite, and which is not safe to bite on. If they ever see that sharp point with a menacing barb next to it, they might feel hesitant trying to take a bite out of it! It might even take you longer waiting for a bite, unless if it's moving or swimming lure target that you're reeling in which the fish can easily miss seeing that menacing hook point with a barb since they're so fixated at the moving target. But when you have a still floating target like that, any fish with pure common sense can easily see that hook point and barb that's sticking out. Besides, I don't scent my marshmallows anyways, and I still catch Rainbows and Coastal Cutthroat here in WA state. Don't get me wrong, I think the way you set it all up with that Dave's Tangle/lead Free weight, fishing bead, fisherman's knot, hook size ets. are all greats tips. I personally never heard of the Dave's Tangle/lead Free Weight, but I will be using em soon thanks to your Idea. I just don't agree on how you hook your worm first, and the marshmallow last, with that menacing hook point & barb that's sticking right out like a sore thumb lol

How do you know when you have a bite when fishing off the bottom like this? Do you just sit there and stare at the end of your rod? How do you know your worm is floating after you cast it? I've never caught a fish on powerbait or worm off the bottom but would like to give it a shot.
@justinspencer6128
@justinspencer6128 2 жыл бұрын
You can watch your rod tip for it to bounce, you can hold it to feel the bite, or you can buy clip on bells to attach to the tip of your rod. I do this so i can walk a few feet away and cast lures in another direction. Marshmallows float because they're so light. They will keep small worms off the bottom easily, which is why he was cutting his crawlers in half

As someone who's just starting to learn how to fish, these videos are helping a ton! Can you do a video showing how to throw spinners farther when fishing for trout? I went fishing for trout recently and we were trying out spinners (they were very light) and obviously did not manage to throw them far. If we add a weight to it, the spinners would go further but would ruin the presentation; would you add a split shot in this case or what would be your recommendation?

LuckyChance try to go with a bigger spinner trout are not shy to run down a bigger presentation sometimes we use full size crank baits and catch 6 inch trout but if your adamant about using those smaller spinners I think your best option would be an in-line sinker they are a lead with a swivel on each end with 2 to 3 ft off the end to the spinner.

Also if fishing withbait like how the man in the video is doing there is no need for a sliding sinker and beads and swivels, a split shot suffices for most trout unless they are super super wary but I have never had any problems with it and I’m fishing for Wisconsin rainbow trout which are super spooky.

If you add small bells to your fishing rod, you’ll hear the bells when a trout bites.

I wonder if stale marshmallows might work better. A little bit harder might stay on the hook better

I let the mellows get "almost stale", and then seal them tight. I then string the mellow before the worm up to the hook eye. You can give a heavier cast an not worry about loosing the Mello this way. Obviously, once it gets wet, you're gunna have problems.

Addicted Fishing no I understand and I appreciate those videos. But I was just assuming you guys actually fished after making this video so why not just add the video of you guys catching fish. Even if it's like a speed run clip at the end. Idk just a suggestion. Thanks for listening though 😊

I always thought about worms as if they were humans, screaming and writhing in agony as enormous titans cut us in half and jab giant metal rods through our heads only to be eaten by leviathan amphibious beasts. Man I love fishing.

Used this setup all my life. But instead of cutting off the leader, just pinch on or off removable sinkers. Also, just use colored marshmallows. You don't need to "make" your own...
