Beautiful work! I particularly like the colour of the leather which contrasts so well with the walnut. Perfect!

Bernie Jones Many thanks Bernie. Actually, I had very little choice with the leather as there were only a few pieces the right size in the shop on the day of my visit. Peter

I think I saw all and thank you for your very kind offer, but such a amazing project is, especially for my actual skills much to complex. But Kudos for sharing, i could see the deep proud and joy you felt after finishing the project. I think I felt near you und could feel the emotions too. Sorry for my bad English, I hope you could get it despite my quite poor knowledge in your language. I can understand your absolute fine Oxford-English without any hastle, but writing or speaking English ist fighting for words ;)

A beautiful desk Peter! Thank you for the series. I've never new of that method for putting on the leather top. Your method seems much better. Do you remember the name of the latex adhesive used? Thanks again.

Is that wallpaper glue you’re using to glue the leather to the MDF?
@NewBritWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, No, my friend brought the glue and so I am not sure what was used. I have been told (but never tried) PVA will work. Whatever glue is used it must allow the leather the be moved after it is contact with the top so that it can be crease free and in the right place. Peter

@@NewBritWorkshop Peter from what I’ve been reading it looks like wallpaper paste is a good option so I’ll probably use that. Thanks your videos are always helpful 👍

Although this is now an old video. I assume there is no need to size the back side of the leather prior to application. I.e. The virgin leather is laid straight onto the adhesive of the desk top. Thanks you. David
@NewBritWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, No, no need to do that at all. Since making the video I had a trial using PVA and I left it for 4 years before trying to remove it from the MDF below - it was still stuck perfectly. Peter
@bluekingfisher14165 жыл бұрын
New Brit Workshop - Thank you, Peter. My project is only a simple Moxon style vice, where the leather will line the inside of the jaws to aid gripping of the work. The leather I intend to use has the course, suede/hairy effect on both sides. I was therefore concerned the leather in this condition would absorb most of the adhesive if it were not sized prior to laying on the timber. Thanks again. David
@NewBritWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, As soon as you apply the adhesive and bring things together close the vice up to put an even pressure whilst the glue cures. Watch the temperature of your workshop as most glues perform badly or fail below 12 deg C. Peter
