This has saved my day. I had a new Smart TV fitted quite a few years ago and after a while I had to start 'bandaging' the coaxial plug so it would connect. I also ended up using blu tac. It finally gave up yesterday and I could no longer bandage it in any way. Little did I know, having watched this video that whoever did it in the first place hadn't done it properly. The inner filament and been broken and the outer casing didn't go through the gripper - therefore no grip. Also the filament had been crimped or 'stayed' into place via small outer silver part and was stuck. I used a very small (almost pin) nail and hammered the filament out which also had the effect of straightening the crimp whereby I could feed through the new filament which I obtained by instructions on this video. I had gone on the computer to look for aerial contractors (which I was dreading) and fell upon this video instead. Thank you so much.

Hi, I'd just like to thank you for such an excellent video. I've had trouble with my inside aerials in my current property for the last two years, the main aerial is already fixed. Having looked up helpful videos I found this one. Learning all about copper cables helped me find two good quality cables and a connector that I'd bought a while ago. I've just used them both and my old aerial with a booster on my tv and it's fixed a treat!! Smashing job, thanks very much!!

Thank you Vince for the comprehensive presentation. Learned quite a bit about the cable installations. Please could you tell me the reasons why is my TV pixelating? TV to the wall socket is fine in other areas, but in one room the picture gets pixelated. Just an observation: Place the camera on Tripod and use a macro lens. Bothe could improve presentation imagery immensely. Thumbs up and subscribed.

Well due to skinning effect, high frequency signal travels along the outer surface of the cable so cladding inexpensive but strong steel with copper doesn't actually impact the ability to carry the signal by much. Of course, purists will always say all copper is better but there is a reason why they clad, the core does not carry the signal.
@LFOVCF
@LFOVCF 4 жыл бұрын
100 Carrie's signal better than RG6. Especially higher frequencies over distance. A fact I see daily for nearly 40 years
@henriktoth56
@henriktoth56 2 жыл бұрын
True for a simple aerial cable that does not carry anything else just the signal, but not the case with satellite dishes, where power to feed the LNB also travels on the same cable, and voltage drops too fast with cladded cable (probably still no problem though if the cable isnt too long, and there is only a single LNB used)

Not sure if anyone can help with this but I completely understand how to put together and properly solder a male coaxial connector together. The problem I have is how do I do this with a female connector? Obviously you don't want solder going down the centre pin of a female connector because that needs to be open for the male to connect to it and you don't want the centre copper to come far into the pin at all because it would just get in the way. So how do you solder one of these?

Hi mate great video and tutorial :-) can I ask a question? We're transfering now to a new flat but apparently the landlords landlord doesn't have any idea if there's a tv signal there. But I saw a wall connection to the cable, is there any way that I can test if that's working? Without me bringing my tv? Thanks in advance and I would definitely buy those wf100 cable for sure. Cheers 👍

When I turn my Xbox on in the other room I loose signal for some TV channels on the main TV in the other room. I've had this setup for 4 years and it's just started doing this. Can't you just cut the copper mesh off I dont understand why it has to be soldered??
@LFOVCF
@LFOVCF 4 жыл бұрын
The copper mesh/braid is part of the circuit. You dont have to solder it at all, but instead, simply swirl the braid at end of black sheathing round and round but keep it neat and none must touch the inner core, so allow a tiny bit more of the white dielectric as a spacer Do put more than one mild kink in the core to eliminate wiggling along the barrel. A slight ripple bend along it. Do not nip the claw, its self tightening but dont over tighten. This is as good as soldering, trust me, I've been doing it nearly 40 years every day.
@Graham_Langley
@Graham_Langley 8 жыл бұрын
Sorry Vince, but that that's not the way to deal with the outer braid. It should always be taken through the cable grip and then fanned out so it's clamped between grip and inner pin insulator when done up. If it doesn't fit through then use a plug designed for the cable size you're using. Point of information: The size of the inner core has no effect on the cable loss - its size is determined by the outer diameter of the inner insulation and the ratio determines the cable impedance, 75 ohm in the case of TV RF cabling.
