Robin's back with another carpentry tutorial. This is the first part of a series of three and it's how to fit interior doors, part one is the door lining.

Why is it, that pros who do these tutorials for us rookies, go so fast, which shows off how proficient they are, but does little if anything to teach us. There's a difference between knowing and teaching.

For anyone interested in the reason why we use 6inch from top and 9inch from bottom for hinge location (150 & 225mm) ...This is because traditionally doors were jointed using mortice and tenon (real wood, panel doors). Locating the hinges at these heights meant we avoided chopping into end grain of the mortise and tenon joints at the top and bottom rails of the doors.

Robin your videos are like gold dust. You follow through in a methodical manner explaining in simple terms, why certain tasks are carried out in a particular order, with short cut tips for both the professional tradesperson and diy enthusiast. Can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Just tried fitting one that was bowed, cupped and twisted.... Couldn't fit it in the car to take it back and needed it done. All I can say is that there aren't enough shims in the world.

6 and 9 always!!! When I was a trainee years ago, I was told I was "wrong" and that it's actually 7 and 11 or some codswallop... I didn't stay with that carpenter for very long. ;-)

Very simple if you follow the basics.....over complicate it and or rush the job and that's when it goes wrong and the finish looks under par and trades are dealing with snagging and the decorator is left to sort it.....It's actually quicker to do it right because your speed increases the more you do it. Cutting corners means you try and cut more corners....Both of you do the basics very well. No different to how it should be done....👍

A true Artisan and eloquent teacher of his trade. I'm looking forward to the next instalment even though I have already fitted all my second fix items in my extension. Handy to know how it should be done for maybe the next build! Cheers guys!

A really good teacher. I am fitting a door liner tomorrow so thought that it would be handy to see a professional does it. This is ideal. Thank you Robin!

Brilliant video Robin, learnt a lot from that. It’s those little bits of detail in plugging up the screw holes and taking the edges off 👌 lovely job.
