Always cite your bg music! Especially when it's this good. Good vid. I now understand the basic physics of a bar end and I chuckled.

For folks who already unscrewed it entirely: My left one fell out somehow (or was stolen, I guess), with the rubber piece and nut still inside. I was able to work out the rubber piece with one arm of a large binder clip, and the nut just fell out at that point. The best place I found to grab with the L-shaped-piece of the steel binder clip leg was at the corners of the square hole in the rubber, and I had to alternate tugging at different corners to work it out. I was able to work it out entirely by hand that way, but would suggest using a screw driver through the end of the binder clip to get a more comfortable grip; I put a finger through there for better leverage, it worked, but kinda hurt my finger. I have a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard, and the OEM carriage bolt that came with my replacement weight is far longer than seen in the video, and that makes pushing the rubber in far enough for it to get a crush fit essentially impossible, since only the last inch and a half of the bolt (5-6 inches long) is threaded. I have 2 possible solutions that I'll try after visiting a hardware store: 1. Add a nut and washer to the outermost end of the threads, with the rubber between that and the nut at the end. I think this should let me work the rubber deep enough into the bar to do its job, instead of riding up the unthreaded portion of the bolt to the weight when I try to push it in, like it does now. 2. Buy a shorter bolt with the same thread pattern, or one that is threaded for its entire length. I prefer solution 1, because I feel like having it anchored deeper within the bar will make it more stable. I'll buy parts for both, just in case, since it shouldn't be very expensive. I'll try to remember to report back how it works out, in the hopes of helping someone else out down the road.
@garyadkins94963 ай бұрын
The nut and washer at the inside of the threads worked perfectly. As some others have suggested I used soapy water and a rubber mallet to get the assembly down into the bar. Only took about a minute to reassemble. Good luck to anyone else out there doing this, and I hope that my experience can help you.

Thanks for sharing the technical video tutorial, actually I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to swap the bar ends.

I relate so much to this guys methods and terminology, had to get new bar ends as old ones knackered when I tried to put hand wind deflection thingys on. My new bar ends are identical to the ones he took off 😂 good times lol

Excellent. Nice step-by-step. And helpful. I like the part where you try Allen keys until you get the right one (its never the first one in my experience). Since my bike doesn't already have bar ends, I may be facing a bit different situation.

haha. No probs mate. Glad you enjoyed. Just recently had the bar ends off on my Tiger 1050. HOW EASY?! It's just a bolt. No faff at all. Why can't all bikes be so simple ...
@vanillamarc6 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial. just wanted to confirm how they worked. Still having trouble getting mine off a Yamaha Fazer after using penetrating fluid and heat. Feeling like any more pressure would break the allen key or the bolt. Trying to get them off to fit heated grips.
@FalloutBikes11 жыл бұрын
They protect the bar in the event of a drop or accident and they also reduce handlebar vibration. The heavier the bar end, the less vibration. My Gixxer had noticeably less vibration after I put these on, so a more comfortable ride.

Thanks mate. I did try and keep the techniques cutting edge. The ol' yank and wiggle is the 'here and now' of bar end removal styles. ;D

@staninjapan076 жыл бұрын
Funny. Thanks. Not knowing that you should not unscrew the bolt completely, that is exactly what i have done a few times. I hope that the fact that the screws went back in and 'bit' properly means that I have fortuitously avoided the problem of retrieving parts from the depths of the bars. Now... to replace the (smaller for some reason) bar-end internal parts that came with the knuckle guards I have just removed. A quick reference to an online parts catalog for part numbers... copied into a Google Images search should give me a photo of the original OEM parts set, so I can see what goes back in and what must therefor be kit parts to be removed.. if that makes ant sense. Happy Riding!

Great How-to video! Thanks! Those have been something of a mystery to me for some time. I don't think they were mentioned in my otherwise extensive manuals. I bought a pair with flashing colored led-lights, so I hope they won't make the handlebars vibrate more, as they are quite light. I'll probably get arrested if I ever use them...

Hey bud, my bike went over on its side whilst out riding and my left hand weight end snapped off (the bold sheared off half way down). Would you know if I can get a pair of pliers on rest of the bolt if I take off the rubber hand grip? Don't want to take it off if it wont help. Cheers, Martin.

I would assume using loctite would be a bad idea. Because if the friction of the bolt in the nut exceeds the friction of the rubber it will just spin the bolt and nut around in circles.

Yes mate! As stupid as I made this, I did think it would actually help. I didn't bother to look up how to do it before. I thought "How hard can it be? I'll just start by undoing this bolt and I'll look it up if I get stuck." Bad move!! Then spent about 30 minutes hacking at the rubber grommet (thanks!) with various tools until it came out. The one in the video is not the fecked one I destroyed on the other side. :D

Time to start hunting for some tools that you can push through the rubber grommet and hook it out with. In the end I used an alan key, but half destroyed it as I pulled it out. Try and find something better if you can. I also lubed up the handle bar a little so it slid out when I finally got it moving. The nut/washers will just roll out by leaning the bike over once you've got that rubber thing out. Good luck.
