Hello Colin and Shaun. I have only recently found your videos on KZbin, so I had to start at No. 1 to catch up. I must compliment you both on them. In particular, you both come over as very natural. You obviouly have a lot of fun making them as can be seen from the outtakes. I notice from the latest one that your boat is coming on a treat, and the excitement you feel is contagious! I have had a few narrowboats over the years, always for holiday use only. Not in a position to have one at the moment but I hope I might again eventually. I particulary wanted to comment on Video no. 9 where you Colin, talk about your autism. I identified with this for 2 reasons. Firstly, I believe I have Aspergers. I have never been diagnosed but over the past 10 years or so, reading lots about it, I am sure I have. I haven’t been to a doctor as there seems little point…what can they do. Knowledge, however, does make it easier to live with. If ever the subject arises, I always recommend people, particularly those who don’t ‘suffer’ from it, to read the book “The curious incident of the dog in the night time” by Mark Haddon. It’s a good read and helps people to understand. Secondly, although I have lived in the Southampton area for the past 50 years, I was born and brought up in South Kirkby, only about 5 miles from Hooton Pagnell where you recorded the video. Do they still have a flock of totally black sheep there? I couldn’t contact you any other way as I don’t use social media. Could I wish you well, not only for Christmas, but with the continuing build of Silver Fox. I look forward to following your videos on KZbin, and hopefully to meeting you on the towpath one day.
@FoxesAfloat6 жыл бұрын
Hi David, It always makes me smile to read comments like yours, thank you! Yes, they do still have the field of black sheep on the corner by the cricket ground. Shaun also says they have been there for many many years. It would indeed be great to meet you one day. Give us a shout if you see a shiny silver boat dazzling your vision on the cut :-D Much love, and a happy Christmas from us both! Colin xx

You've got it all very well sorted-out, with a lay-out that will be just right for you. It would have been impossible to find a secondhand boat with a lay-out that you would have been 100% happy with, and changing everything to adapt it to what you want is a nightmare. Great stuff guys. Atb, Peter.

Hey guys! Love your vids :) We've got 6 x Vetus 12V 165Ah batteries. Plenty (too much), topped up with 600W of solar and the engine alternator. Wow! 49" TV. We're having a 40" in the saloon and 32" in the bedroom. xx
@aarongranger6 жыл бұрын
Beautiful work. Simply wonderful choices. What's the total length of the boat? The interior looks a bit short, but I guess you have a long cruiser stern with lots of outdoor room up there, so things might reach out to the magic 57' mark. I know that the finish ceiling isn't in (an probably no finished floor yet either), but the boat looks quite tall on the inside. Did you specify additional head height and have the shell built taller? Is that even an option (at 6'4", I appreciate the extra room)?
@FoxesAfloat6 жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron. I reckon the camera angles can be deceiving. The boat is very slightly over 57 feet (one inch). The interior is very well designed to make use of every inch, and I think that might look more like it once it's completed. The ceiling, well, we didn't ask for it to be higher, and again, I think when it's completed it will look different. xx

@FoxesAfloat6 жыл бұрын
Hey Lynne. The reverse layout decision is simply because of the way we will use the boat. As continuous cruisers, we'll spend 99% of our daytimes between the saloon, galley and stern, therefore it makes sense for us to have a reverse layout :) Thanks for saying you love our videos. It means a lot :) xxx

Some years ago I worked building boat for a number of companies. You are right, seeing things day to day things don't seem to change, but over a week or so they change a lot. The Beadboard looks nice inside. Myself I think it should be white... but again that comes from being around old work boats where everthing was white with mahogany wood trim. You guy are just fun to watch and wonder what others see when my sweetie and I are together... Never mind the fact we are a couple of graying grandmas.
