I always thought manufacturers knew how to setup everything right at the factory. After watching this video, I realised that everyone is built differently and I went straight to my toolbox. Now my GS is so much more comfortable while riding standing up and sitting down. Thank you!

I like how he mentiones all ergo upgrades to fit the rider, including risers for tall people and bike height for short. Generally a lot of people ride dual sports and not racing 2 strokes, but still go with ergo advices from top mx / enduro riders. Even they will setup their bike different for relaxed adv offroading with lot of teavel involved versus offroad racing..

Hi Bret, wanted to say that the videos you and the others have made for the channel have been fantastic. New to Adv but not riding and after 10 years of being off 2 wheels I'm finally back on the horse due to a head on motorcycle accident. I had a question about your neck brace I've seen you wear and hoped you could shed some light on it and some feedback. Looking for something like this as I finally had neck surgery last October and looking to do whatever I can to help relieve any downward pressure. Keep up the great work!!

Very helpful video! Do you recommend covering the rear brake when riding on road, seated? I find that I have to set the brake pedal to be lower than the peg (rather than level with it as shown) to avoid dragging the rear brake if I want to cover the brake pedal.

Hi Bret, thanks so much for the videos, I watched them all in 2 days. I bought a 2017 GS, not the Adventure and am really looking forward to learning how to take it off road as well as practicing the on road or parking lot exercises. My question is, when you talk about using 2 fingers on the brake and clutch for a bit more finesse, do you always use that, even on the road and coming to a stop? It seems like at a full stop I might not be disengaging the clutch fully. Is it true that you can really feather the clutch on these bikes without damaging it or putting extra wear and tear? I really wish you taught some classes closer to Los Angeles. The local ones seem to be quite expensive where as yours seem more reasonable. Plus I like your positive explanation and love of riding these and willingness to teach people from the ground up. Thanks again for the great work.
@0xsergy
@0xsergy 4 жыл бұрын
If your clutch is adjusted correctly it's disengaged within an inch of travel. Lotsa room. Hydraulic clutches can take more abuse than a dry clutch but keep it to a minimum as always. The replacement time is the main thing, on a bike a couple hours for a guy like me that's never done it before. it's literally about 12 bolts on most bikes and the engine doesn't come out, timewise that's not much,.

Thanks for vid. I'm 6'2" and even with bar risers and tilting the bar forward I still find it uncomfortable to ride standing up and often pull the handlebars rather than leaning on them and being relaxed. Riding an Africa Twin.
@JimmyNewCakes
@JimmyNewCakes 3 жыл бұрын
Same height and trouble here, but on a Tiger 800. With the way it feels to me, I actually think I need to dump the risers. When I'm standing, it feels like I'm not pitching my weight forward enough, so it's like I'm always falling backward-thus, I pull on the bars to stay in position rather than rest on them. I think that ditching the risers will allow me to put that weight just a little farther forward in a nice equilibrium point to not pull or push. Might be worth a try for you as well!

Great info as usual! I spend a lot more time on pavement than dirt, so I have my bar set up for that, then when I do hit the dirt, I carry a dedicated wrench (have a Rox riser, uses socket head caps on the clamps) that allows me to loosen-tighten two of the bolts and rotate the bar to be comfortable for standing position, and the wrist-hand-lever position doesnt change significantly for me. I thought I saw somewhere that there is a toggle-type bolt that replaces the threaded bolts eliminating the need to carry a tool.
@BretTkacs
