Thanks for making your instructions so clear, easy to follow, and for speaking clearly. I am tired of listening to repair videos that speak at 50 miles an hour! your manners and intelligent ways are greatly appreciated*****

Key point: the twisting of the stranded/soldered wire together to the single conductor copper wire. These two must be tightly twisted together before twisting on the wire nut. Installing the wire nut incorrectly can easily leave the connection loose. Detail of this crucial step should be demonstrated. The instruction of "pulling on the wires to make sure they are tight" is good but a demonstration of how to better ensure tightness is critical.
@finalword45353 жыл бұрын
Most experienced electricians can use the wirenut to twist the strand around the solid wire. Soldering in this situation is absolutely unnecessary and laughable. A small tug after twisting will tell you if its tight enough or not.
@morriec98682 жыл бұрын
In context, I am sure Rick Phillips meant solid, not soldered.

@@finalword4535 Don't think this video is for experienced electricians, genius. Experienced electricians know how to do this stuff, and I'd argue pretty much any apprentice electrician is going to know how to do this within 5 minutes of the job, too.

Further: installing a wire nut on the bare ground wire ensures no contact with the hot white wire is possible.

@mikelee1906 Жыл бұрын
You did not specify which of the 2 wires go to the white and black. I am guessing it does not matter? I thought one was line and one was load. One from the circuit breaker and one to the lights. Does not matter which? At the very least it seems your dimmer dial could work backwards.

Hello I saw u have white wire connect to the dimmer . Isn’t that neutral
@finalword45353 жыл бұрын
White (or "neutral") wires are often used in a technique called back feeding as the switch leg for a light. This is because switches require no neural. Make no mistake, there is current running through that white wire when that dimmer is on.

Don't ever, ever, connect a black wire, with a white wire, because you will have a short circuit. This guy, it didn't explain that white wire, is the same black wire. A switch what is does is to cut the current, or to let it go, but if you connect a black wire (fase), to a white wire (neutral), you create a short circuit.

I hate to say this, but you don't know what you are talking about. Start with the tools, you have improperly named most of them. Second, you are right, that most dimmers are not worth repairing, although the most common failure is the TRIAC, which is not a very expensive item. The problem is that once you take the dimmer apart, the guts are riveted together. You would have to drill the rivets out. The TRIAC is probably riveted in, so you have to drill it's rivet out too, then desolder the three leads. Once the TRIAC is replaced, the dimmer is probably good for another go-around. At home depot, a 1000 watt dimmer is over $43.00, that's a little over $6.00 as you claim. I have a customer who goes through dimmer switches about every six months, at that rate, I might consider repairing them as the cost of replacements has been in the $100's of dollars.
