I used this on my 97 Windstar and my 96 Volvo 850 turbo when each had developed a head gasket leak. (Oil in the radiator, white smoke in exhaust, regular overheating after 20 minutes of driving, coolant loss.) Both cars ran fine for the next 2 years. I think it is important to flush, flush, flush the radiator until it only has pure water in it before you add this. Drain the radiator a bit, close up the drain plug, and add this in, then top off with water. Worked for me, and saved me $6000.

Maybe it just looks that way but it appears that your coolant recovery tank was almost full when you started adding the Blue Devil. If the engine was cold, that tank will be filling up with water from the block and radiator. I much prefer adding products like this directly into the radiator or, as an alternative, into an empty or near empty recovery tank. In fact, you even mentioned that the instructions said to pour it into the radiator. If your recovery tank was nearly full or even, say, half full, it will end up on the ground as overflow. In the best case, even with an empty recovery tank, it would take quite a while for all the product to work it's way into the engine. Remember, coolant (in your case water) is entering the recovery tank as the engine warms up. It's not going from the recovery tank to the engine. You want to get the product into the engine as soon as possible, not on the ground or just sitting in the recovery tank. I'm guessing that the bottle instructions said to add the product to the recovery tank. If so, that's probably just a liability issue as some idiot might remove the radiator cap from a hot engine. That said, if your recory tank was empty when you started and the engine was cold and the block and radiator weren't completely filled, the product would be drawn into the engine. Even so, I would put it directly into the radiator. I can't see any reason why not. You just have to make sure you have enough room for it in the radiator. No probablem. After you flush the engine and drain it, add the product and then top off with water. One more thing: Running water into your recovery tank and watching it come out your bottom radiator hose doesn't tell you that the system is filled with clean water because that water isn't passing through the block. I always backflush my systems. You can get a kit for that but it's not completely necessary as long as you run the engine until it's hot and you know it is circulating through the entire system and then drain it until it's clear. Backflushing is just faster. You hook your hose up to the adapter that comes in the kit - which is only a few buck. Luckily, back flusing and replacing coolant is not needed as often with new cars. I used to do it every year. Not any more. Anyway, thanks for posting this video and I'm glad you experienced good results. I just thought I would add a couple points from my 55 years of experience working on all my cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.

Pull the radiator cap to relive pressure and run it like that, some people will pull the plug at the effected cylinder to relive pressure while the product is working threw the system, keep adding water to keep it cool, shut her down if she gets close to red line, let her cool run her again until that product has enough time to work, mines did the same thing , I thought when it keep overheating the product was coming out , let her cool like the bottle said to after the 50 mins, went out and top and started her up, no overheating. Took her on a 30 min drive on the highway going 70 the whole time. I was done fucking with the truck and said if it blow it blow fuck it, but to my surprise she drove normal. I have a v8 so I had to use two bottles off the gate, she runs cool now and heat is as hot as ever. Pour the product slow as to not get a bunch traveling threw your system in a big ball, reason why people get clogged after using, POUR SLOW ON COLD ENGINE WHILE ENGINE IS STARTED! I probably pull the thermostat and run half a bottle threw her again to get a full treatment now that she can idle for 50 mins, , so $150 but I definitely can drive her and make some money to get her repaired right if the seal breaks on the fix. 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

I tried Fiberlock first and it gunked up the engine and caused it to overheat. After flushing the radiator 5 times I pit in Blue Devil and followed the instructions. After letting it sit for a full 24 hours after having let it run for several couple hour periods with cool offs in between, I went out this morning and drove it around, but alas, it was still steaming. I just went out to crank it up again and low and behold, no steam. I'm going to leave the Blue Devil in and drive it this week to see what happens and will re-post to let you know.

@georgelurye62746 жыл бұрын
The different size bottles are different products. The big bottle has the original formula, which is better for your engine and works best, but requires a flush and the thermostat removed. The Pour-N-Go (smaller bottle) is less capable and doesn't work as often, but you don't need to remove stuff. There are also many reviews that say that the latter product killed their water pumps.

i was very skeptical on Blue devil gasket sealer on my 1995 Accord cause i didn't want to shell out $65 for a bottle.... i flushed out my coolant with water and took out the thermostat added half the bottle and ran it at idle for 1 hour... and then let cool overnight ...... The stuff really worked for 2 or so months and then it started to have the same original symptoms ...... but guess what i have the other half of the bottle so i guess what I'm doing today into tomorrow ..........9/16/14.... Blue devil is like a jolly rancher candy when it drys between the cracks of the bad part of the head gasket.. it will be a Temporary fix so don't push your car to hard after using this (Heavy stand still traffic/ long trips / high revs /etc/etc/etc/) your car is best as a station car or local grocery getter don't plan on doing no 100+ mile trips in 100 degree heat ......hope this helps

Probably been said but it appears you are pouring it into the reservoir tank. That only goes into the engine if the radiator is low and only on cool down. Aren't you suppose to pour it directly into radiator cap hole with it a least a quart low of fluid and then top of when done with antifreeze When cold, and radiator full, the reservoir tank should be filled to the mark that says cold level.

It's a band-aid at best. Been wrenching since 1980. Tried it on my personal vehicle recently which had a minor head gasket leak. Followed directions to the T. It stopped the head gasket leak for about a week, however 28 minutes after using this stuff my water pump developed a leak which will require replacing it. Plus like I said the head gasket will need replaced anyway. My recommendation? Don't waste your time or money.
@johnpauljones14529 жыл бұрын
Chris Marescalco After you seal up a head gasket, the cooling system pressure will increase and any weak point like a thermostat gasket, water pump or radiator may spring a leak. That is a good indication that your head gasket leak was sealed up. I used this product on a Cadillac Northstar and the vehicle was driven from Denver to Omaha and back several times and is still running after five years.
@HaPPyPwNy6 жыл бұрын
So you been spinning wrenches for almost 30 years yet put off a head gasket replacement? I'm shocked to hear that you even tried an additive. It seems crazy to think you decent compression could blow your water pump, but even crazier that you timed a blown water pump 28 minutes into driving. Like you set an egg timer on the dashboard and flat out looking for a reason to hate. My dad's sienna had a rear main seal leak so bad I had to add 5 qrts a week like the Exxon Valdez reborn. The leak was so bad I drove it for an couple hours and there wasn't even any oil on the entire dipstick. It was very disappointing because we knew it had a leak when buying it but had no idea a rear main was like a $600 fix. Well some Jamaican my dad met swore this stuff works miracles and we used it properly with INSANELY AMAZING RESULTS. The oil leak almost stopped completely and if that would have happened I would have had a heart attack. I'm shocked that it worked at all and that it held up. So shocked, that I can see how this product will absolutely terrify automotive technicians for decades to come. Think about it. Why would you, as a "wrench twirler" or whatever you call yourself, ever endorse a product that saves us, the consumer, the hundreds that you people stuff into your pockets with your overinflated costs. I played dumb at one place with over 40 perfect 5 star ratings and this guy tried getting me to sign a blank authorization and came up with at least $2200 in shit to fix but what he failed to realize is I had just replaced most of those items. (Smacking my fan with a wrench and "oh did you see that? Your fan kicked on when I hit so it's bad." Well your timing with that screwdriver must be pretty damn amazing bud because that fan is literally 3 weeks old. I'm losing respect for automotive technicians and their bullshit. People using ohms and shit to test egr valves... I'm mean flat out over diagnostic ridiculousness. The guy could have replaced the egr and cleaned the ports flawlessly in the time it took to run such a test. You people trash talking particle based additives that gum up systems is one thing but don't trash talk a good product that really works. My dad's sienna is a 440k, runs like shit, but still runs. That's alot more than any of us expected.

This ain't 1980. Science and stuff.

In my situation, there was a small external leak and once I used the original formula, that leaked closed up. The loss of fluid reduced by 75% or so. However, very soon I noticed some loss of fluid, occasional white smoke out the pipe and a smell of coolant out the exhaust. That means a small tear opened internally after. I plan to use the Pour-N-Seal this time as my system is perfectly clear. I've only driven about 100 miles since the system was flushed and refilled. The only thing I'm worried about is this product adhering to the thermostat or water pump as apparently it happens. The product is designed to adhere to metal parts, which those two are. The latter is weaker though, so should be okay. Hope it helps! I will update.

Correct, it should not be added into the reservoir. If your vehicle only has a reservoir/overflow rather than a radiator cap, instead of pouring BlueDevil through the reservoir/overflow, with the car off and engine cold you should disconnect the top radiator hose and add the product there; do not pour it into the reservoir. It may be added into the hose or the opening on the radiator. Once BlueDevil has been added, reconnect the hose and start the idle from that point.

Can anyone here tell us what exactly are the contents inside the Blue Devil sealant? Is it Sodium Silicate?

I have the same car, did the same thing and it worked..but I had a shop do it. get rid of that car. its a ticking time bomb. those cars have so many issues. top motor mounts go bad, struit bushing go bad, gas caps go bad, check engine light comes on for all kinds of stuff. lots of vacuum hose issues. I see that your air bag light is on. can only get it reset at the dealer. lots of air/fuel mixture problems, oil trap issues, turbo issues I can go on forever. this car is a big money pit.

This video is old and wrong. It should be deleted especially considering that the channel is named after the product manufacturer. You do not pour this product into the overflow reservoir. You either pour it into the radiator directly or into the top radiator hose if there is no direct access into radiator by way of a cap.

I used this same product on my 2003 Volvo S60 2.4T... I did not make any changes on my car.. I still get white smoke, steam out of the oil cap, and oil dip stick. I wasted my money.... :(

That was an pressurized expansion tank system not a radiator cap with overflow bottle.

Most coolant problems comes from leaving old dirty coolant in for years. Change coolant every 3 years or 30k miles..

It depends on your leak. If coolant is going into your oil, you may want to change your oil/filter after using it. That said, often oil goes into the coolant instead of the coolant is simply going into the heads. My leak isn't going into the oil at all.
