This video warmed my heart. As a dad with two grown daughters, I enjoyed watching a woman tackle a job like this ( hot to mention recording and posting online). I especially liked the little finger snap at the beginning :). Well done.

I leave my home for 4-6 months every year. Every year I come back-there is no water going into dishwasher. I go to You Tube to see what to do. I check the float valve, water valve, water on/off. With just one primer of a gallon of water-it's done. Thank you for that simple solution. It's seems I've been making it harder than it needs to be every year. Hollie-you are the only one who has EVER said to prime it. Women rock!!

You are a genius!! I have been having this issue for about 2 months now, and live in an apartment. I have put in work order after work order and they just keep telling me “I ran the cycles- it works” sure it turns on, but it never uses water! Sheeeeesh. I was about to break down and buy a new one instead of “using” this one that the apartment supplied. I ”tricked my dishwasher” with a gallon of water, and it worked!!! Now I am able to let them know the specific issue so they can finally come and fix it! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!

I typically do all of my own repair work as well, but for some reason, my brain never went to checking to see if there was silverware under that float! Guess what .. There was a spoon there, and now that has been removed, it's working. Thank you!

Thanks a lot for a great video. I had to surf the KZbin for a solution and and ended up nothing useful. Nice video! And great job fixing the DW yourself. I might add that using a socket in place of the wrench could make this job easier; and wrapping the Teflon tape the OTHER way may help keep the tape from unraveling as the part is being screwed in.

I just fixed mine by hitting the float with a wooden spoon... the float inside can get stuck and tapping it can knock it loose. Easiest fix ever and required no disassembly! (Try this first!)

With mine, After talking to my youngest ( the Geek guy) I listened and thought I heard the click on valve, so I assumed it was trying.. He had me ensure water was getting to valve then As a "try", I shut water off and undid the water inlet feed then I used the bristle end of a battery terminal cleaner- gently scrubbing inside the valve. Son said Newer dishwashers have a check valve in the drain valve that sends a signal allowing the fill valve to engage. Mine does not have that feature but He did have me run 3 coffee jugs of vvery hot water and forcing the drain cycle each time. This he said would clean out any grease ect that could be impeding operation. Put it back together and Mine ran like new and had much better sound during drain cycle. I cleaned the screen filter while I had it off checking for debris in pump sump area also.. I have run 4 cycles.:)))

I mean if you’ve never done it before it would be kind of weird to expect excellence the first time. CNCs are not dishwashers and vice versa. She probably could figure it out eventually though. Clever and sexy. Killing it. Most girls my age are not willing to even try. Most of the men as well. It’s sad really.

I got the solenoids for $13 each Canadian $. I bought 3 of them they were so cheap. If the bracket is slightly different , you can reuse the old bracket and screw it onto the blue plastic solenoid. I have all the showers in my house controlled with these solenoids also , so when I take a shower , I just flip the switch on the wall, the the shower comes on and I wait about 3 minutes until it gets to the right temperature and then I take a shower and I have a switch in the shower to shut it off. The shower switch is a three way switch and it is mounted in a rain proof outdoor plastic switch box, cemented into my tile work to look decent. So you don't have to play with the shower valve to get the right temperature, you just leave it set to the same place and the wall switch just shuts off the water to the shower head so that the temperature setting is never changed.

Thanks for suggesting tricking it by adding water it did wash my dishes, also i cleaned float, i was prepared to buy an inlet valve, but first i took lower sprayer arm off to make sure it was not plugged , and with it off it was filling with water , i put the sprayer arm back on and its working, i dont get it, iv been doing dishes by hand.but its a whirpool 18 years old , and i have never used the dry cycle.and it never gave me any real trouble.so anyway thanks for your video😃

I did the same thing but it turned out that the old water inlet valve was good. What was not working was the water float switch. Test your old inlet valve before you replace it. A simple continuity test with a meter will tell you it’s still good. Mine was and I spent $20 to replace it when it was fine.

Lucky! Working on my old GE Potscrubber DW, same problem, replaced water inlet valve, float switch, pump inlet seal - still no water. DW is getting water to it - always keep in mind that the line going to the DW could be plugged, or I saw some people install DW with FloodSafe hoses, which may trip and stop water flow to DW - supposedly these can be reset if they trip. I installed a Floodstop unit on my fridge icemaker line and my DW, so if the sensor gets wet that you place underneath, it will shut off the flow of water - it also tests the water valve once a month by turning the water supply off and on -

Not be critical but you should wrapped the teflon tape on in the opposite direction, looking at the bottom of the fitting it would be clockwise. Also there is no need to put teflon tape on the water line side . the water line itself is a compression fitting that provides the seal.

Hollie, you should get yourself one of these 4 way screwdrivers from Harbor Freight. It should be called a 6 way because if you pull the bits out, the center become a nut driver. One side is 5/16” and the other is 1/4”. It is much easier than using the wrench on those little hex head screws. They are usually on sale for $1.99 or you can either sign up for their catalogs or look for the coupons in the junk mail you get, or in magazines and newspapers and they frequently have them free with any purchase with coupon. You can buy a 59 cent wallpaper knife or whatever you see cheap in the store. It’s great that you posted because I think a lot of ladies see the men doing it and think they can’t do it and as you obviously know you they can.

Hi Hollie! If a CAN trick the dishwasher into washing the dishes, does that ALWAYS mean I have a bad inlet valve? My property manager seems thinks to think "the pump is dry" and I just need to "put some water inside to get it started". Is what he's talking about even a thing???
@holliebillings48703 жыл бұрын
I’m not quite sure to be honest. But if it works by adding water, then most likely it’s the inlet value.

The part I especially like is when she patronizes her area's local businesses. 2:01 She pays a visit to her faithful brick-&-mortar hardware store, and perhaps even likely consults their expertise... But that's ALL she pays them = "Screw You! (and the rent you rode in on), cuz I can buy this item online at HALF your lousy price!" [ storms out of store ] -- (but not first without purchasing a selfie-stick at checkout -- useful for making this KZbin video)
@holliebillings48703 жыл бұрын
Why would I pay double? I went there to get the part and not consult them for their expertise. I like to shop around and make sure I can get the best deal. My question to you….Do you ever shop around before you buy something? And you’re wrong, I didn’t use a selfie stick while filming this video.

@@holliebillings4870 Great video Hollie! So good of you to share your experiences with the World. God will bless you back! And please do not be discouraged by what Thumbs Down said. You gave a shining example of what KZbin was designed to provide... real-world experience and advice on how to do things yourself and save money! There will always be naysayers on social media. Ignore them! We love what you did! I have been noticing an intermittent "delay" in my washer starting when I press the start button and close the door. I checked the "float" and it seems to be working fine. If it happens again, I will take your advice and try "tricking" the washer by filling the bottom with some water. Good to know that I can consider the water inlet valve next if I still have any issues. Thanks again Hollie - I am now a subscriber!

@holliebillings48704 жыл бұрын
Did you fill your dishwasher with water? If you did and it worked, then it would be the inlet valve. If not then it’s not the inlet valve.
@marito2424 жыл бұрын
Hollie Billings it didn’t, I guess not getting a valve anymore , thanks.
@marito2424 жыл бұрын
Hollie Billings I’m thinking the inlet valve failed first and the lack of water damaged the circulation pump...for it won’t fill and your trick doesn’t get it running. Maybe the pump got some debris, I’m exploring tomorrow , today is watching more videos and make a plan.
