I am so grateful for KZbin videos like yours. Last night I went to run my garbage disposal and all I got was a buzzing sound. Watched this video but was still pretty sure I was going to have to replace my disposal. Went to Ace Hardware first thing this morning to get the Insinkerator wrench. Yes! Disposal is now working!

Saved lots of manual troubleshooting time. I didn't know the Allen bolt was there. I had cleaned out one small spoon and got the dreaded hum. After twisting the bolt I heard another spoon that I missed in the first pass. Thanks again!

When I saw the thumbnail it showed the GE disposall and got happy but then I realize you have a different brand. Unfortunately the GE Disposall doesn’t have an Allen wrench hole and the rest is in the front not the bottom. By any chance do you have a trick for fixing this type of disposal…?

What do you do if you try the Allen wrench thing, it spins, turn on the disposal, and it works just fine after running some water through it and all that. Then about an hour or three later, it seizes up again, and won't spin. Go through the process all over again, and then another 2-3 hours later, it seizes once again. What is causing that? Any ideas

Although I am sure it is not recommended. I used a half inch impact to break it free. The Allen wrench would not work. Put a smaller impact first. It did not have the power to loosen it up. The larger tool worked great.

If that doesn’t work, try unplugging the disposal, reaching inside and seeing if there is something obstructing there rotor. If that doesn’t work you may be in the market for a new disposal.

Try a pot of hot water and the add some dawn dish dope to It Pore that in and let soak Hour or two

If you are going to use a picture of a GE garbage disposal it would be nice to see you trouble shoot it.

No Allen wrench hole in the middle

Some ge models have the hole, some don’t. If yours doesn’t have the hole he suggests you manually try to turn the blades from the top with something like a broom stick.

Check and see if it's covered by an access panel or sticker. If not, you can also put a socket with an extension into the sink and spin it. Just make sure the disposal is unplugged first.

@@DoItYourselfDad I have been a plumbing contractor for 25 years and I heard the disposal come on after you un-jammed it and spin for a few seconds with something bouncing around inside until the foreign object lodged back in place causing it to jam again and return to the humming sound, when you hear that you immediately kill the power and look inside with a bright flashlight to find the object and remove it. I feel if you have an advice channel you should provide the most informed advice possible and you failed to do so in this video.

Got it, in the case of my disposal, it’s definitely not an object in there causing the issue. This has been ongoing for quite some time without any obstruction. The bearings are shot. I wanted to make this video before replacing it completely.
