Thanks for this video. With your instruction i was able to diagnose a belt issue on a Hitachi VT-3012A i bought for a dollar at a yard sale. Not being in the U.K. I wish I had a store like the one in your link local to me.

Do you know how to fix a VCR that keeps automatically shutting off? As in I turn it on, it tries to rewind for about 10 seconds then shuts off. I think it’s doing that cause it thinks a tape is jammed.

Too great a tape tension, auto-switching the tape-end shutoff. Or maybe a loose (slipping) drive belt. Will the tape FF the full tape and REW?

In mine the drive belt appears to have turned into a goopy substance, no way to measure. Any suggestions?

Depending on the conditions in which a machine has been stored, sometimes drive belts will dry out and crack or snap and sometimes they will "melt" into a tarry mess which sticks to the pulley and motor and may even drip on to the mechanism or chassis. Before installing a new drive belt, if there is any old black rubber mess stuck to the pulley, clean it off with solvent eg Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) cleaner or methylated spirits or nail polish remover. Ensure that all drive surfaces are clean and free from any tarnishing before installing the new drive belt. You can measure the drive path with a piece of string or wire. Then order a belt which is 5-10% shorter to allow for stretch/drive tension.

Hello my friend my VCR machine take the cassette inside only Tha moter working but not eject Tha cassette outside and not spining the cassette not working only take the cassette inside I change this things like you changed but nothing happened what is the problem?
