I have an Acer Aspire es1-512-c5yw with an integrated battery. It went completely flat and although I plugged it in for 4 hours I still had the 'Charging - 0% available' message and upon checking, the battery was still flat. I watched the video but was put off by the fact that to get at the battery you have to open the case. However ... I discovered in the nick of time that there is a reset hole underneath, and if you poke a paper clip through the hole you can press a switch which will disconnect the battery. Watched the video again, followed the instructions and bingo! It immediately showed 0% charge, 2hrs 3 min to full. Went off and had lunch and now it is 70% charged. Brilliant. Absolutely delighted. this ideA really worked for me. i have toshiba c850 p5010 my battery was totally dead and was not charging at all. i had to plug the power whenever i had to use the laptop. but when i used this method and checked my battery it was shocking......actually i removed the battery and swithced on the laptop on plug in power. the right click on my computer>manage>device manager>DOUBLE CLICK ON BATTERIES> uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Complaint control...." and "Microsoft AC adapter". then shut down and insert the battery. now shut the computer on and amazingly it was working and charging....thanks sir

I have a Dell N7010 Inspiron. My battery status was reading something like, "87% available, but not charging." Also, if the AC chord got pulled out of the computer accidentally, everything shut down immediately as if the battery was completely dead even though I bought it 3 months ago. Well, I tried it 3 times and it didn't work. But, It DID work the 4th time. But, I did two things differently on the last one. I don't know if either of them had anything to do with anything. This time, I went into the Power Options and changed the settings from "Balanced (recommended)" to "High Performance", I guess because I wanted to finally see what it is like to be living on the edge. The other difference was that I forgot to plug the AC chord back in. When I started it with only the battery, it came right back up. Then I plugged 'er in and now it is 100% charged. Thank you, Bryan!

+Bryan Armstrong doesn't work neither on a Asus or HP all it does is reset the battery indicator lamp. If the battery is dying or dead it will still give a warning light. Its a simple computer reset for the battery warning sign. Wake up people when a battery is dead ITS DEAD

Hey Bryan: Thanks a boatload. There was another KZbin video similar to yours that I tried first. That one told me to also uninstall the Microsoft AC Adapter, which I did. There was another minor difference (can't remember what). The "battery not charging" message remained after I rebooted. That also told me to let the battery fully drain down 3 times. Glad I didn't follow those directions. I followed your directions to the letter and voila after rebooting, my battery icon told me the battery was charging. You rock! Thanks!!!!

Big G proberly your battery is totaled dead and a dead battery cannot charge which means you have to change the battery to a new battery

I just did this on my 2010 Gateway NV53 - which was reporting 98% charged and lasting 3-5 minutes! The process worked exactly as described and Windows automatically reinstalled the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery component as promised!

Hi Bryan. So what happened with mine is it claims it has experienced permanent failure and that it needs to be replaced. I followed all of your steps, after uninstalling the compliant battery driver, it did not ask me to restart the computer so I shut it down manually and when it turned back on, it continued to say the battery has failed. What can I do at the point? Can you run your laptop for a while with a "failed battery"?

This tutorial is actually just showing you how to turn off the indication that you need a new battery. While it is true computer manufactures design their products to not run forever, you really should not ignore your products when they tell you something is wrong. Responding to failing parts is leads to factories learning if their parts need to be recalled. If you have a warranty on your product, this is the first step in fixing any issue. The Creator of this video is correct in the sense that you do not need any expensive hardware to test a battery and he is correct in saying the software is not always reliable. his tutorial is just telling you how to ignore the prompt of you being told your battery is dieing. This will not fix your battery. The title says it will fix a dead battery, but it is not doing that. When a battery is dead, it is dead. Even if this title itself said " Fix a Failing battery for free " it would not be correct. I hope this comment stays up and Creator does not remove this so as to give the correct information.

A suggestion for anyone who wishes to try this.....BACK UP YOUR WINDOWS SYSTEM FIRST AND MAKE A SYSTEM START-UP DVD/USB DISK/DRIVE!! Use a good backup program. There are many that are free and also will make a boot disk for you as well. In this way, you are free to experiment so if you run into any trouble you can just reinstall your whole system and start over. You should be doing this from time to time anyway, just in case your system ever goes "belly-up" on you. ;-)

Great idea. Thanks. But I had to get a new battery anyways. I tried that way and 2 other ways but nothing helped, the battery for my Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook was dead. I replaced it with a new one for $50 and now the computer is working perfectly once more. That ultrabook laptop has an internal battery that is a bugger to try to get out and replace, but I did it anyways. Thanks for the tip on how to fix laptop batteries.

Without taking the battery out of the laptop, do as you did, the same exact moves in Device Manager to UNINSTALL the item, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. immediately after the uninstall, just mouse right up to the top of the menu row in Device Manager, select ACTION then simply click on the selection Scan For Hardware Changes and the Operating System will freshly list a new Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery install. (of course, the topic is a battery notification that the power supply is plugged in but the battery is not receiving the incoming electrical current, and not a battery with cells that have reached the end phase of their life cycle )

it worked some. 2nd time I performed procedure it started with 11% ever so slowly climbed to 56% and continues slowly. Still says replace battery, it's still climbing like a snail. Thanks for video My restart is much better
