Thanks for the help. I just had faucet with a tiny drip, but would have had to buy 2 new faucets so that they matched. Instead, I followed your instructions and fixed it myself for $25. This video was a huge help. Especially the small but important details like the one part that has the tab which needs to hook over the back to go on and off correctly, how to use the plastic tool, the fact that the tabs on the cartridge need to be aligned in such a way as to allow the clip to pass through, etc. I'm sure I would not have been able to replace my cartridge without your help Thank you!

Have the exact same faucet and your instructions worked like a charm. The cartridge, by the way, was a Moen 1225. It cost me $23 in spring 2024.

Very helpful thank you. I have the same Moen faucet so I thought this would be easy, but the 21-year old faucet had hard deposits inside the cartridge pipe, and it took two hours with various tools to pry the old one out. At one point I contemplated writing off the old faucet and buying a new one, but my Scottish blood prevailed. Your advice towards the end about having the right part saved me grief. The store that I would have gone to by default had the wrong one, as I could see from their website picture, so I went to another place, that had the right one. Thanks again; well done.

I think that's a great idea! Contact Moen and see if you can get the cartridge for free, as they guarantee their faucets. Replacement parts may be obtained by calling 1-800-289-6636 (Canada 1-800-465-6130), or by writing to Moen Incorporated, 25300 Al Moen Drive, North OImsted, OH 44070-8022. Proof of purchase (original sales receipt) from the original consumer purchaser must accompany all warranty claims.

Thank you. I had a problem. Old cartridge really hard to get out. Eventually got it out. New one wouldn't go it. I don't know if it was the small amount of corrosion on the tube walls or perhaps a burr, but I took 600 grit sandpaper, rolled it up in a tube and worked it back and forth a few times in the tube where the cartridge goes. Cleaned the tube with a damp paper towel and voila, cartridge went right in no more drips.

Good video - I have slightly different Moen model. Failed for me because the screw going into the top of the cartridge would not budge. The entire cartridge turned down inside the faucet. Sadly, I had to replace with a current faucet which is a piece of junk. This was an excellent faucet for many years.

Here is a tip to the wise...about twice a year, go to every sink and toilet in your house and give the shutoff valves 3x all the way off/on twisties to keep them freed up and seating correctly. They can & do corrode inside over time and cause you major headaches if you ever need to turn them off in a hurry. Ask me how I know....
@AverageMe3 жыл бұрын
Pretty good advice! Of course, the solution is to turn off the main water valve to the entire house, but that negates the very practical purpose of a shutoff valve.

Hi Mark, hope you are still available for a question, I am a very senior lady with a husband that used to be able to do all his own electrical and plumbing, but since his dementia , he has not been able to do anything like this anymore, does not know how or what tool to use or how they operate, so I am trying to figure all this out myself with the help of your KZbin video. We went to get the replacement cartridge, but they wouldn't give us the replacement part without the old part, so home we went again. Now I have been able to follow all your steps up to the 11:58 min. part where the the top part of the cartridge is exposed, I can pull it up about half an inch freely and the screw can turn also, but then I can feel that something metal by the sounds of it is stopping it from coming out, I have pulled and pulled on it, but it is definitely something hard that is stopping it from coming out, as I said, for about half to one inch it will pull up and then solid stop. Is there something that you can tell me for a suggestion , that I might be doing wrong, as you showed that little square white tool that comes with the new cartridge, I don't have that of course, as I don't have the new cartridge yet, Moen has this lifetime warranty, that it will replace your cartridge for free when you bring in the old one, so am really hoping you have a suggestion for me to get this "sucker" out of there, many thanks. Nancy.
@AverageMe7 ай бұрын
It’s really hard to diagnose without seeing it, but if something’s stuck it’s likely a broken piece of rubber O ring or a hard piece of mineral deposit. The tool only breaks the cartridge free, it doesn’t pull it out. The risk scoring the inside of the faucet if you force it out, but that’s the route I would take. I would keep pulling but realize it might cause damage (or already be damaged). It could also be fine.
@nanv57 ай бұрын
@@AverageMe Thank you for your reply, since your reply, I managed to pull out the old cartridge and put in a new one, it was a matter of having that little square white plastic part that goes on the screw and got that of course with the new cartridge. Then was putting things back together, but everything was loose, it wasn't fitting properly, so took it all apart again, and now couldn't get the new cartridge out, kept trying to twist that little plastic part back and forth hoping it would be sitting in the way that it would then come out, but no luck. So, ended up calling a plumber, who came on monday, I ended up showing him how to use that little white square nut on the screw, and told him that it has to do with that being in a particular position for the cartridge to come out. Which after him pulling on it so hard I thought he would break the faucet right out of the sink, then showed him that method again, and he did try it, and it did work this time. He put in a new cartridge and it didn't work either , water was just running out. So, he said better get a new faucet , which we ended up doing, and all is fine now, just abit more money then initially planned, but all is well, and I thank you for your video.

What if the handle has come off the moen bathroom sink? Fixable?
@AverageMe3 жыл бұрын
It wold depend upon why it came off. If the handle is actually broken, you might be better off simply replacing the faucet. The type in the video are probably under $70 new. You might be able to find the handle part. If the faucet is otherwise good, just use the new handle from the new faucet purchase and replace it on your existing faucet (you might as well stick in the new cartridge while you're at it).
