Thank you so much for this! There was a piece that somehow lost the screws that connect the hinge to the board under the glass. This helped me not be scared to fix it! Much easier than I anticipated!

Thank you so much! My LG DS Velvet has taken a beating and needs maintenance. I selected this phone because of its DS capabilities. I'm teacher working virtual classrooms and Google meet sessions and love that I can attach all kinds of peripherals through a multiport dongle. This phone has been a lifesaver. Can't wait to get it back to good condition!

You rock, thanks for taking the time! I take apart electronics often, but was not even considering my floppy DS until I saw your great vid.

Thank you so much. I'm going to do this on mine tomorrow. My hinge has been like jelly for a few months now. Edit, did this just now. Worked wonders for me and was very easy. Feels brand new! Thank you again.

Great video and I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to make a nice long form video showing everything you need to know about the process. I just wanted to give you and everyone who reads this a heads up that it's generally a bad idea to use thread lock on plastic I don't know have a clue why it does this but on most plastics the thread lock causes the plastic to get brittle and crack and sometimes it just crumbles and disintegrates I have experienced this on a number of things I glued however it doesn't ruin all plastics so maybe somewhere out the there is a list showing which plastic types may be susceptible, Back when i was younger and didn't have any epoxy or anything like that I just used super glue on everything I had to fix so I had a chromebook and the plastic standoffs that the hinges screwed into broke so I decided to super glue them and for a day or two it seemed fine and then I opened up the chromebook and I found out the superglue completely ate away and crumbled the standoff as well as some other plastic in that area

Awesome! I was thinking about getting a new dualscreen case but that can't be the solution to a seemingly simple problem. Thanks for showing me how to fix my case! Thank you a lot. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you! One question: is the Locktite to prevent the case from loosening up again?

TY! am thinking mine is only loose on the screen side. Trying to do it w/o removing hinge covers. Does anyone know how to revive the outside lcd? Mine is dead redardless of settings.

what size are the screws that screw onto the hinge?
@mpschigoda16773 жыл бұрын
He says at the beginning it's Philips 000 (triple zero) size. Teeny-tiny.
@mpschigoda16773 жыл бұрын
Also at 7:53, confirms it is 000 or maybe a bit bigger. I'd have to find a thread gauge that goes that small (and I'm not sure you can even buy one easily, to be honest). Probably best to just buy a multi-pack of metric and imperial screws and see what fits. If you find out, let us know.
@ianduncan35373 жыл бұрын
I lost my screws, did you find the size?
@mpschigoda16772 жыл бұрын
@@ianduncan3537 Had my case apart again tonight. They're metric, the head is 2.5mm across, the threads are about 1.32 as best my cheap calipers can tell. The shaft is about 2.23mm long. But I can't tell how many threads they have. A metric screw at M1.3 is probably correct?

1:48 what kind of screw is that?

Damn this confirmed the hinge and screws broke off the plastic mounts. Epoxy maybe? Definetly not super glue.

My hinge is super sloppy. Would this also fix my problem where I fold the hinge all the way around to the back of the phone and the second display doesn't go to sleep? I'm tried of accidently touching the second screen on the back of my phone and opening apps.
@ShinyMooTank Жыл бұрын
Yes, It fixed my hinge and the phone recognizing that it should out the second screen to sleep when the display is folded behind the camera.
@lordchowder2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure you don't need to unscrew the 2 hinges for this fix. I think you just need to pull off the front plastic.

Uber late comment, but does anyone know where to get replacement parts? the central pin on the top hinge broke and I can't find a place to get another
@SamuelSalzman2 жыл бұрын
Your best bet would be to buy a parts dual screen on eBay for pretty cheap.
@Dwayne12663 жыл бұрын
Do you thank this well help with the screen not coming on or a short in it
@SamuelSalzman2 жыл бұрын
There could be a chance that a connector came loose, either on the case side or on the screen side on the board. Other things would be the cable got twisted inside the hinge and is shorting to itself or the metal hinge. Or there is something wrong on the board, or within the OLED display, which is beyond my knowledge.

After you separate the top screen and the screen doesn't work is this game over?
@SamuelSalzman2 жыл бұрын
By top screen, I assume you mean the glass on the front that the clock shines through. If the inside screen stops working, there's a chance that the ribbon connector could've become disconnected. If there isn't any visible damage to the ribbon cable that goes between the phone side and the screen side of the case, I would reseat the cable on both sides. If there is damage, you can get a dual screen case on ebay with a broken front glass for pretty cheap, and use it for parts.
@supasage81312 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelSalzman I actually meant the dual screen as a whole. Does your method still apply? Should I use rubber gloves to play with the wiring?
@SamuelSalzman2 жыл бұрын
@@supasage8131 I would just wash my hands well to remove any oils that could damage the circuitry. Gloves would take away the dexterity needed to work on such intriquite electronics. As long as you're gentle, you shouldn't damage anything, if you were to damage some wiring, connectors, or even break off a surface mounted component - like a capacitor or resistor, then that could potentially permanently damage the whole case. My video should help with showing how to dissassemble the case.
