does it matter if the screw is metric?? Just kidding. Thanks for helping me out today. I bought a sleeve and it was too big for the terminal connector (Toyota). Your idea is better and free.

Excellent video. I found a really short screw and just screwed it in after it was clamped as tight as it could be. My brand new terminal had this issue on the negative post only. The positive post is always bigger. So if you've got a wiggly negative terminal, i can't think of a better fix. This is a design flaw of all top post batteries. Or a design flaw of terminal manufacturers by thinking they're the same size post. Either way the parts don't match up correctly. Not only that, I'm not sure why the posts are tapered. I do know that the terminals are usually tapered as well.
@mydearriley
@mydearriley Жыл бұрын
I wonder if there is a safety factor with the tapered posts. As in, following a vehicle crash, first responders can quickly pull the terminals off of the posts.
@nickc6332
@nickc6332 Жыл бұрын
@@mydearriley That's a good possibility. I never thought of that. Side post battery terminals are actually screwed in though. I'm thinking side post is newer tech than top post and they may have done away with a quick disconnect feature. My focus is to "bulletproof" everything to where it can't fail. Their focus is to create a weakness as a fail-safe. Bulletproofing and fail-safe's don't really mix well together. It's possible to have both. As long as nothing gets sacrificed along the way. But manufacturers are limited with what they can do, so when higher cost can be avoided and compliance is achieved, then the customer gets a bad product.

It's also a possibility to fry something with the voltage spike every time he disconnected the battery. The chances are low, but why risk damaging something unnecessarily especially with these newer electric sensor everywhere cars 🤷🏻‍♂️

They literally make battery terminal shim kits made of lead, most people have never heard or seen them, but its a lead cap, put it over whichever side wont tighten and there u go, but a good screw job wont hurt anyone hahaha

They get loose too overtime, especially if your cars old or your battery tray isn't very stiff, or if your cables aren't exactly the best this is definitely a great free bandaid though and it works for me!
