Sorry. I originally thumbed down. I found this very instructional as well. Sometimes it takes 15 seconds of a vid to jog the memory of how to fix the ‘thing’.

M name is Derek, and I am a man that needed directions!🙂After viewing your tutorial, I went straight to analyzing the zone valve, because the cover to the valve was loose to start off with, After cleaning the dirty gunk out, and tightening the cover, it worked perfectly, and I am stoked! Thanks much for the tutorial.

I’m a dependent happily married man. And your help was much appreciated. And as I followed your instruction, I was listening to JJ Grey and Mofro ‘on fire’. I’ll save my hate for some of the comments below. Everyone needs a little help now and then. No shame. Turned out to be three little nuggets of red rock.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! After a week of waiting for a repairman and the zone running and flooding the backyard, I found your video and I'm so thankful. For the cost of a $7 diaphragm the repair is done ! You are a blessing!

This is a good video. Thanks. You should probably put a little clip of the station successfully turning on after you did this. Usually when I do stuff like this I'll go flip the switch and nothing happens. 😂

again a dude, not a lady. Couple comments: my values have 4 bolts and no spring on the diaphragm. I took apart the valve that wouldn't shut off, rinsed the diaphragm and when I went to put it back together found out that one of the bolt nuts had fallen out from under the valve, so I couldn't tighten bolt (thus it leaked). So I turned off water, manually held bolt under valve, then was able to screw into nut and no leaks. Zone 4 fixed! thanks for the video!

So you did this on a nice, sunny day, not windy, wet, and at the end of the season when it's cold. Other than that little difference, I think you have helped me solve a problem! Thanks to you and your cute little friend. the part about shutting off the main was an EXCELLENT reminder.

I have 3 timers for 30 zones and got panic that one zone sprinkle would not stop even I turned off all timers. I had no choice but shut off entire irrigation system. It is never happen before. I could sit and cry in the dark room. I love best is one of the tips that i can spot the trouble by touching it to feel the water is running. Thanks you. I will fix my problem this coming weekend.

Would a bad solenoid cause the valve to not close ? So what’s happening is I can get it open and get the sprinklers in zone 4 to come on and run but then I’m they don’t shut off from the controller and I have to run back and shut off the water at the valve . I took apart the valve and cleaned it up but still seems to do it

I followed a few videos on this topic with cleanning, it was happened 4/21, after cleaning, it worked until today 6/5/21 and did not stop spraying even the system was off; i cleaned it a few times, not working. I swapped the solenoid to a diff station, and the other station became bad; so the solenoid is the cause

Zone 1 was running and I could barely detect it from feeling water running. Best to look at the color of the wire that is in Zone 1 of the controller. Then find that color on the solenoid. I pulled up the diaphragm and there was about tablespoon of sand in it. Replaced the diaphragm and solenoid and it still didn't work. That's when I began digging with a spoon under the valve to replace the entire thing. All in all it took about 8 hours because I am slow and I stripped the heads of 2 screws. The box is really too small for 4 valves and the box was nearly impossible to remove due to tree roots that had grown around and into and the pipes run through holes in the box. As it was I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut the side that zone 1 was up against. No doubt the diaphragm was the problem and I probably damaged the bottom half of the valve trying to get the stripped screw heads out.

To determine which valve connected to this zone. Feeling the solenoid didn't help me but when the zone was active, that pipe FROM the valve was colder that the others (due to cold water flowing through it)

@@danielperez2348 The valve turns on and off based on a leak caused by the solenoid. If your valve leaks any where it will cause it to turn on.

that's awesome that you did all that tells me you're a go getter but there is an easier way to swap a diaphragm AND properly flush the valve without all that hard work while keeping the water out of the valve box. And everything can be done in under 15 minutes - use the Service Buddy which is sold at the sprinklersupplystore.com there is a video "How to flush your sprinkler valve with Service Buddy". I urge you to view the video or on youtube "how to properly flush a sprinkler valve" for $20 its a game changer and the Service Buddy can be used over and over well worth the money
