How to fix a Torbeck cistern valve

Great video. I just nipped down to Screw fix and bought 2 of those valve diaphragms. (I got two so I could avoid another trip just in case - very ham fisted). Works like a charm. Toilet now flushing perfectly. This is so pleasing. I've subbed and liked. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. Total cost: 3miles of gas, £3.00 for the diaphragms.

Thanks for this video! Ours suddenly started overflowing and after watching this I took it apart and cleaned both of the little pinholes and now it works again. The way it uses the pressure equilibrium to shut itself off is genius but I guess they didn't account for an open loft tank where specks of dust can be drawn through the supply and eventually block one of the pinholes. The pressure reducer seems to catch some of that debris, I've found some in it and cleaned it. Removing it to make it fill quicker must make it more susceptible to failure.

Many thanks. Helped greatly with a fault on ours. Thought it was the diaphragm, but ended up being a clogged filter in the inlet tube, it reduced the pressure so the valve never shut off.

Hi Alan... Thank you for all these helpful vids.. You are a gentleman indeed.. My issue is the water when fill seemd to be coming from the blue arm which makes an annoying hiss noise for about 15 mins whilst it refills very slowly ... .. Ive never had isue with water pressure issues ... .. Any thoughts on where to start , .. I assume the valve might be the cheapest option ?

Hi for separate taps, had to to one before and the sink cracked on me, they had been on for 15 yrs or so, so just wondered how you could get the taps off if you can't undo the back nut. Thank you

buddymojo Spray as much WD 40 as you can up onto the back nut, give it a couple of hours then try just turning the tap around in the basin slightly to crack the seal of the nut underneath, then if you hold the nut underneath and turn the tap in the basin slowly anti-clock-wise it should start to come loose. Then you can use either a box spanner or basin spanner to completely undo the nut..

Hi Dereton33, thanks so much for all your useful videos, they've saved so many days in my house. We have a Torbeck cistern valve (installed by a plumber). It's always had a "weak flush" (which we stupidly ignored and now we have a blocked toilet...). I'm trying to increase the pressure by adjusting the cistern float (as shown in your video). Even though it is as high as it can possibly go, the cistern only fills three quarters, with the float staying well above the water level. Could removing the filter, as shown in your video, sort this problem out?

No, the filter will only make it fill faster if taken out, not increase the water level. Only thing to do is to change the valve for a different make.

Very helpful but need your advice this washer? I changed the main unit where the press buttons are so the problem of flushing is sorted but now we have found that the water is going over and into overflow pipe. I need advice & help please. I am doing this diy 1st and want to lean so pls help🙏🏽

Great video... For me the end cap section of the plastic came off in the middle the opposite side to where the water goes down the thin tubing into the cystern. I guess for me I have to replace the whole valve as it also makes a squeak when it closes each time.

Hi, i have a STANDARD CONCEALA SIDE ENTRY FLOAT VALVE SV80367 and it does not stop the water filling up the basin & keeps flushing so i have to turn water off every time which is a pain, do you have any ideas why it does not stop the water when its full, its been like this for a week now so any advice would be great thanks.

The seal is gone inside, best bet is to change the valve.

Hi Al, is it possible to convert an old siphon to incorporate an overflow into the pan. I Want to remove the existing overflow because it's allowing cold air in from outside causing condensation on the cistern...thanks..j

Hi Al, my torbeck valve is spraying where the arm connects. The rubber valve looks good. No debris that I can see. I turn the water back on and it’s great, no hiss and fills quick. I flush... then it starts hissing and spraying water again?

My toilet has a torbeck valve, which I replaced initially because it was making a noise/vibration in the pipes when closing. This fixed that issue, but the new valve started dripping within a couple of weeks causing the cistern to overflow. What could have caused this?

Some debris in the valve, take it apart and check.

I just noticed the water was spurting over the top of the cistern tank. On close inspection I noticed the little plug at the back of the white plastic piece that the long thin plastic bag was connected to has come loose. I am going to dry the area and tried gluing it back in with superglue but it will be very fiddly. If that fails it will be need a new valve.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, Mine is the same as this and is so slow. I have mains pressure but it's fed by the narrower pipes ( push fit I think ) can I remove the restrictor altogether, what will happen , thanks. There are no obvious blockages. I did notice that with the inlet valve removed and water back on it seems to have low pressure if that makes sense.

You may find the pressure is to great if you remove the restrictor. Anyway there is only one way to find out , take it out and try it.

one day it stop letting water in to the tank....iv open cleaned, put everything back in order still doesn't work...what i have found when i block with my finger the top of the pipe where the water is running to the tank i trigger sometimes the flow...some issue with the valve(got also new one but it doesn't help) or pressure ???

Make sure there is not a flow restrictor fitted in to the feed end of the valve.

Just fitted a new one and it's dribbling from around the blue ring, which won't unscrew. Think I'm going to have to go back to a ballcock, because none of the other side inlet valves I've seen will fit the stupidly narrow tank :(

it was all ok untill I added pill for blue water and did hit the arm but didn't breake it .. I went upstairs before I checked this video and did open another one to see how it works .. and put it back together and doesnt stop water too.(was ok before unmounted ).. washer is in good position all clean .. did all with water cut off..diaphragm looks ok on both

Torbeck valves are total .... place your own four letter word. Like comments above, great when installed, they WILL NOT last like conventional valves.
