There’s billions and billions of 4-8 inch straws. This “hack” will happen a few hundred, maybe a few thousand times, each time using about a half inch of each straw. You finish the math…

It does provide a decent anchor on with you could melt more plastic to make a tooth, but the most critical part is making sure the thing stays attached. Wax might help in the short run but eventually it will crumble, I think.

Unfortunately it won't work. The end of a zipper is profiled to hold in the bottom part of the zip, since this is flat it will make it a bit easier to close the zip but it'll just slide out constantly meaning the zip will constantly come apart at the bottom.

That's never happened to me but I have had one or two of the zipper "teeth" fall out and having the zipper replaced was more expensive than buy a new garment.

Okay if you have a straw & heating tool. Yet you could just buy the repair parts for the zipper. They do sell them. Little clamp you squeeze on with whatever type of pliers you have. I'v even used scissors when I couldn't find my needle nose.

Unless there is a ridge on the repaired piece, the zipper will still pull out and open from the bottom

Inserting a short piece of toothpick inside the straw would act as an anchor in the metal receiver at the bottom of the zipper so it doesn't slide out unexpectedly.

To me....that looked like the little straw you get stuck on a juicebox. (sharp tapered end). Great tip. Thanks. I wonder: Given sufficient time, could you fashion an end using just the hot glue (if you treated the receiver with silicone to prevent adhesion while modelling). I may give it a go on a damaged garment or gym bag.

That is only for emergency. When you wash it, the heat from the dryer will melt wax. Try using a zipper repair kit or using nylon thread

There is a cut in this video , she does something in the corner of the patch , but she does not show it in the video ... at min 2:37 the corner of the patch is clear in 2:38 there is a black spot in the corner, I assume it is so the patch stays hooked into the metal clasp ... without it the patch would not have any hold in it

I'd stick a piece of a larger-size paperclip wire into the fold to create a more palpable engagement spur for the zipper, first making the piece of straw a bit more shallow. And....dare I say it? Don't be afraid of bringing a pair of needle nose pliers to the party.
