Thankyou for this. I did this operation to my QC15 today (five years after you published this). They'd been dead in my nightstand for several years, but now I'm using them again after a beer and some solder fumes.

That a marvelous diagnosis - In my case the positive wire fine, but the ground wire where it connects to the battery door was broken due to battery acid leak. I had removed the door to find the corrosion,. I had to take an extremely thin wire and pocked a hole below the battery door pivot point, and then rerouted the wire on the PC board to be soldered to the mother board on connection "2". Very grateful for ;your help.

Thank you some much! I fixed mine slightly differently (also, it was the positive cable that had a damage somewhere inside, negative was still great). But your video helped me a lot. Liked that you actually show how you find the rights spots to fix with the multimeter. Two thumbs up!

Thanks much for this. My QC-2 headphones quit on a recent trip, and I noticed the wire inside the battery compartment had come loose. I was pretty sure I'd be able to fix it, but this helped me know what went where, and the best approach. The QC-2 is even more obtuse, since there's no connection points inside the ear cup. Saved me from buying a new set, and they're once again working, with a marginally thicker wire, to hopefully hold up to the opening/closing of the door for a few more years.

Thank you for this - mine suddenly died and I suspected that the negative wire had broken. Using this I managed to get it all sorted fairly swiftly!

I was shocked I got it working again! This was helpful to me, but I made the following changes: 1. I used a much bigger gauge copper wire, because that's what I had on hand. 2. Because the wire was thicker, I drilled a hole in the battery cover and routed the wire through the hole where the existing wire goes up and over inside the headband. This also required me to snip out some space in the silvery plastic cover to accommodate the thicker wire. This means I have a bit of wire exposed. The soldering was such a challenge. I had no confidence it actually work since I suspected I introduced a short with my clumsy soldering.

Great step by step directions! I needed to change the ground wire that detached from the battery door. By detailing where the ground and power connection points are on the board, and how to reroute the wires, I was able to fix my headphones. Thank you very much!

I just found a wire close enough to the same gauge as the stock one and replaced it but left a bit more slack.....pretty much everything is as before except I used a gray wire instead of black.....thanks for the video as it pretty much guided me to the problem though I had taken it apart before and tested continuity...this is invaluable

Great video,. I was able to mix my QC15 wuth this. Negative cable was disconnected from circuit board. When I was soldering it back the soldering point separated. I used the upper one (speaker) negative point and its working.

Looking forward getting my Bose phones working again. Thanks for the video. But I think that I'll try and splice into the wire(s) coming off the PC board rather than risking damage by soldering directly onto it. And, hopefully, it'll just be one (+ or -) that I have to fix. (I'm half wondering if Bose would still repair it if I messed it up trying to fix it...)

Took a while but managed to follow your instructions and had success :) Re-routing the wires was a bit of a hassle as was trying to resolder on such a tiny scale. Your suggestion to cut existing wires and resolder to the stubs is clearly the way to go. I desoldered at the circuit board. So MY fault :) Thanks !!

i'm confused about the + lead to the tiny rectangular circuit board on the inside side of the plastic housing at the bottom of the battery well. my + wire seems intact w the wire gong into a small cylinder (? ferrite noise filter?) that is glued to the plastic to keep it stationary then soldered to the END solder point of the circuit board. at 2:21 you show that circuit board but it looks like you already pulled out that small cylinder and + lead but then you attach it to the MIDDLE solder point, not the end point. any clarification? thx much to anyone who can explain.

Despite that only the wire from the battery door was bad, I replaced both. Probably didn't need to but its done. Had to drill out the existing hole to allow room for 2 wires to come through to the circuit board. Not a perfect job but they work now and I don't need to replace them.

There is an even better way to route the negative wire: you can feed it through an existing opening between the pcb and the battery compartment. The opening is at the top of the headphones. The new wire can then just be placed on top of the pcb to rout it to the solder joint.

The hole you're referring to is the screw-hole for the top half of the plastic cover. ( unless I missed something) I did use it... the top cover is now held in place Securely with a small piece of black tape at the top. Good enough, headphones sound awesome again. ..

Damn!! a really helpful video, I haven't gotten mine to work yet because the pair that I bought used were probably a set used for testing in a shop, the main audio cable was screwed to the shell of the headphones and was a bit strange, at the end of the cable it used the normal 3.5mm jack and another one for I guess it was for power which I dont know if Bose actually made those cables for sale, the soldering joints inside were the battery should connect to weren't soldered and there were no contacts for the battery neither. Have you tested yours with a normal 3 pole cable or do you have to use the proprietary cable to make them work? I just want them fixed as soon as possible and my only solution is this one or to take out the circuit completely and solder the wires directly to the headphone drivers.

I'm not sure if it is a good idea to reroute the negative wire like this because of sound isolation. You crated a path between the pcb chamber and the inside of the headphones. I would add a drop of glue to the places where the wire goes through the plastic to make sure that the noise canceling is not affected.
@TinyTavino5 жыл бұрын
Ground wire is taken to the solder point itself and not at speaker ground. Atleast no difference on noise cancellation felt after that... Its as same as before.

Does anyone have a reference to original speaker part used by Bose in the QC15 ?
@cosmicaug5 ай бұрын
What other modes of failure does this device have? Mine has just started to randomly click & then the sound shuts off. However, it is clearly not a power issue because the power remains on (and I still hear an electronic "muffling" -I don't know what else to call it). That is, it's a bilateral total sound reproduction failure without power loss.
@cosmicaug5 ай бұрын
Never mind. I think it is the power issue. Shouldn't be too bad of a fix, then.
@cosmicaug4 ай бұрын
It's actually an issue with the wiring between the two sides. Presumably, it's shorting out in places where the wire enamel has worn out. I can reproduce it by putting stress on the joints. I can see that the cabling has worn in several areas. I do not know where I would source that cabling between the two sides. I am seeing blue enameled, green enameled, red enameled & copper. I thought that I might be able to sacrifice the cable that connects to an audio source (the input cable) but that seems to only have 3 connectors (a blue, a red and a copper).

What gauge is that wire? and what kind of glue/gum did you use??
@steveswoodworking25045 жыл бұрын
For something like this, a fairly small wire maybe 24 or 26 gauge works well. I really like the silicone covered wires, such as this: amzn.to/2ObwqpY Of course, the gauge doesn't matter that much, if you have some wire already that is close enough, just use that. But if you don't have any wire, the pack of 6 colors of 26 gauge wire is great to have around.
