Thanks! This video really helped me to see the problem with my Lenovo Yoga c740 before disassembly. It was the exact problem you described. I had to replace the touchscreen (which cracked due to the hinge epoxy failure) and superglue the hinge back into position. Everything is working well now! Interestingly enough, my hinge screws are significantly longer than those on your laptop, so I didn't bother to replace them.

how did you replace the touchscreen? im having the same issue my hinges pierced through my touchscreen and now it wont respond.

Dead right about things are engineered to break. Laptop hinges are classic. Tested at the factory to open and close without breaking a bit beyond its warranty.

Thanks for blazing a trail ahead of me. My left hinge broke on a Y720-15ikb, and I ended up drilling out the rivets and affixing M2 bolts in place. Cheers, have a like.

Thanks for your comment--drilling through the rivets was a fix that hadn't occurred to me until I read it. Did you have any issues with bolt heads or nuts getting in the way during reassembly of the laptop? What's the height of the bolt heads and nuts you used?

I will reiterate what others have asked/said. WHAT SIZE NUTS AND SCREWS did you use?

Thanks for sharing the not often used method of fastening broken hinges. This is the same method that I use on all hinge repair. I never get complaints by my clients and the repairs never comes back for a second fix. It is permanent. I am the only technician in my town who use this method. Even on KZbin I mostly see technicians using hot glue or two component glue.

I’m literally packing for my first trip abroad since pre pandemic and my laptop hinge just busted. I had no idea this was such a common issue but I hope this will fix it. However I’m not sure if this is something I can manage before my flight. Honestly ridiculous. Planned obsolescence is a sin

I used Metric screws M3-.50-8 and nuts size M3-.50

Infinite thanks for this tutorial!! I had to buy a Dremel but it was worth it. If ended up looking pretty well.

Why not just using pop-rivets instead of the Metric screws M3-.50-8 and nuts size M3-.50?

EXCELLENT! The maker should have done that to begin with but they are obsessed with the esthetics over what works

The protrusions on the back side from the screws will scratch the base when in tablet mode.

Imma put pads on the screws

How would you recommend attaching the other side of the hinges? The threaded attachment points on my 720-15IKB are under the keyboard cover, and I'm afraid protruding nuts or bolts will scratch the screen when it's closed. Another option would be to go through the bottom cover, but it would require getting a stack of washers or something to act as spacers for four of the six hinge holes.

Any recommendations on where to buy the screen + screen housing? My hinge just disconnected and the screen ended up cracking. Hoping to give your repair a shot

Hi. What size and length bolts were used? Also I was considering brazing it on as another permanent means, has anyone considered if that could be done without totally destroying the paint?
@Malaperty2 жыл бұрын
This would be a REALLY helpful video if you could list this info.

I had to replace my lcd screen, the hinge, front cover AND the EDP cable to get mine working again. If you don't want to spend $200+ and lots of time, grab an Hdmi cable and an external display of some kind.

Where are you located? I think this fix is beyond my ability but would love to pay you to do it for me. This is my second yoga with hinge failure, as I was unaware of the design flaw. Won't be purchasing Lenovo ever again, but since this one is still working, I'm not ready to toss it. I also cracked the screen trying to hold the back and front together. (So mad at myself for that.) You totally nailed the real problem, which is planned obsolescence, i.e. making the parts fail so you have to buy a new machine, even if it still works fine.

I don't know what those glue they used on that but it was fucking strong. I have an acer timelineX unit from 2008 and it's hingers got broken last year 2022. that's like 14yes. when I open it up to fix it. it has the same kind of double sided glue. it held it for 14yrs. I tried using several kind of glue and epoxy but it doesn't last at all. it only last a week and broke again. I've been searching for all kind of double sided keyword I even use industrial grade on the keyword but I just can't find that exact double sided glue they are using in the assembly. don't underestimate that glue shit is strong XD.

Hi. What size screws did you use?
@explicitmyth8490 Жыл бұрын
on the hinge it says the screw size is m2.5, I personally used a m2.5 10mm screw which was a bit too long. I tried using an 8mm screw but the nuts wouldn't fit properly. Maybe a 9mm would have been perfect but yeah.
