How To Fix Broken Sun Visor | 2004 Ford Explorer

Thank you so much! My visor has been broken for years. I've had bungee cords holding it up. Once I found out there was a replacement part for it and saw the video, I was able to fix it myself.

Good video. Thank you. However, I just replaced these same parts on a 2005 Explorer and found that I didn't need to work so hard. I was able to replace both visor mounts without doing anything about the light wire. Both the metal piece (shown at 2:07 min or so) and the "plastic plug" shown at about 2:22 min can be fit around the wire and the metal shank of the visor. This worked very nicely. I did need a friend to hold the visor while I replaced the first of the two mounting screws, but otherwise it was a quick and easy job on both sides. I reiterate: I did not have to remove the pillar trim on either side of the car (as indicated at about 5:05 min). Hence, replacement of each visor was a task of only a few minutes.

Thanks alot man. Theres a hose up there in the headliner that is supposed to be a gutter for the sunroof (if you have one) and it came apart and started leaking into my truck. Got to and and fixed it thanks to you!

Very helpful, thanks! BTW, no need to disconnect the electrical cable: attaching the tiny washer and nut without pulling the visor out of the car is a pain, but with a little patience can be done.

I replaced the bracket on my Explorer without removing the visor and cable. They made the bracket "split" to they in all in place without any removal.

Any idea on how to get the bulb out of the visor? I have the cover off but not sure how to pull the bulb out which is all I need to replace. TIA

You don't need to unplug the cable or take down the trim or riders side grab bar. just take the two screws loose, get the broken plastic out of the way slide the plastic split sleeve over the wires and down the shaft of the vizor the ridge up under the metal at top. Take the little bolt off the new mount and open it all the way up and mount it around the plastic sleeve. when you do it the right way it will close all the way up. put the little bolt back on and tighten, screw mount back on body and your through

I have a 2013 f150 my sun visors do not have a light and mirror but I went to Pick-N-Pull and got some with the mirror and lights where is the plug where I can plug them into is it underneath my headliner or what and I don't want to tear my whole headliner out just to find a plug

I have seen so many videos but there is never really one that shows how to remove the sun visor completely because it has 2 wires that connect to the inside, you have to show how to disconnect the wires and take out the sun visor.

The metal bracket is not tightening up around the plastic insert . attach it with screws and sun visors falls down like with broken plastic..

Yes, both of the mirror doors hang down slightly on this Explorer. I haven't looked into a fix for them yet.

How did you take the grab bar off? Before or after the trim? Where are the screws?

The handle comes off before the trim. There's 2 plastic circles above the handle, pop them out and you'll have access to the screws. Once you remove the screws, the handle can come off, and then you can pop the A-pillar trim off.

I popped the A pillar trim off just enough to get my hand behind the headliner. Then you should be able to reach the plug that’s connected to the sun visor, and unclip it.

How do You "Pop off" the A pillar trim on BOTH sides...

On the drivers side you should be able to just pull on the A pillar trim and it'll release. On the passenger side, you have to remove the handle on the A pillar, then you should be able to pull and it'll release as well.
