Hi all, while on a road trip I bumped into this gear issue. The first gear would not engage, somehow found a workaround and drove almost 400kms back home, but it took a few minutes to fix it. To know how please watch the video till the end.

Watch what happens under the hood while the shift is happening. Get someone to change the gear and watch the shifter cables, maybe they aren't engaging properly. Or if it is too worse get the shifter lever assembly on the cabin checked.

Get your shifter cables and the gear shift mechanism checked at the service centre. Be there around and ask them to show you while they check.

Thanks buddy. The fuel economy is around 14-17 kmpl in city. Highway you will get around 20-24kmpl. Color is personal choice, if you want it to look peppy/sporty, go for Flame red or Arizona Blue. If you like it simple then Daytona Grey or Silver or white. Your decision is definitely a good one. It's a safer car. It's indeed a good package, at that price point the features you get is really cool.

Bro my ist gear is stuck the same way.but today it happened that my 2nd gear too got stuck. Moreover I have an engine check light for long now but that didn't affect performance of car at all

Buddy, see if your gear shifter cable needs replacement. On the engine check light, get the diagnostic check done with an OBD and see what's wrong. If your car is running fine then it could be some sensor that is busted.

Shifting does make a little sound. It's definitely not butter smooth. But when the car is running you won't hear much noise.

Yes, in a couple of days the issue was back but not as worse as it was. I fixed it myself n then it never repeated.

Not too much, but there is a little vibration that can be felt. Of course it's a 3 cylinder engine, so little vibration will be there. If it's extreme with you car then pls get it checked at the service centre.

In service centre they told me that there is problem in your cluctch plate because of which firste gear is not engaging! Im addition to that they were charging me 5000+ for that.. I just came out of there that day. Will now check this method..

It is possible that it could be clutch plates, but they don't wear out very soon, unless driven that way. It's definitely worth checking on the shifter cables once.

In my car it was found coconut shell at gear shifter at engine cabin.. Due to this 2nd 4th reverse not able to perform.. After removal.. It was ok... This is due to rat kept the coconut shell... This may be useful if any body face this issue.. Kindly check any objects fall in gear shifter which affect any one side of gear shift.

If it is a reoccurring issue, inspect with a mechanic/SC and replace the shifter cable and it solves the issue.

Yup, I have seen this issue in older Maruti and in my tia also sometimes. It just doesn't engage. A couple of tries and it does. It's all to do with the shifter cable.

Oh okay. Just check the shifter cables bro. Ask someone to shift to 5th gear which you watch under the bonut. If it's loose fix it yourself. Else next resort is the service centre oly.
