@jimdavison40773 жыл бұрын
@@kdsboosted4954 problem with that is small buildings can heat up and if something happens you may not notice for a while. Other than that not a bad idea. Better than having it in your work bay getting baked with dust. A friend rigged a light that turned on in the main bay when the compressor kicked on so he had some idea when it turned on and off. Another buddy ran his air underground from one shop to the other but he got water in the system which froze up in the winter. Not saying not to do it just trying to help you with issues to watch for. Doing things like sand blasting are hard on them and if you don't have enough ventilation you can overheat the pump real easy. But just running a few air tools isn't bad at all.
@jimdavison40773 жыл бұрын
@@kdsboosted4954 well whatever works for you. No point telling someone else they need to do it a different way. The point is to make whatever setup you have be as trouble free and reliable as possible. With so many new setups lots of options and different locations present different problems with some places being very hot and other freezing. I know people selling off their air tools, lighter cordless impacts are all the rage now. Those Milwaukee ones have over 1400 pounds of torque. For years the average air 1/2 inch impact had about 500 pounds of torque.
@jimdavison40773 жыл бұрын
@@kdsboosted4954 my son worked for Battlefield and when Tormont guys had tough nuts their Dewalt couldn't handle they came and got his Milwaukee. Lighter than the Dewalt and Rigid brands which helps when using it all day.

Fish eyes can also be caused by the oils in your hands when you wiped the dust off. A tack rag is best to use to take dust off. Also you can put fisheye eliminates in the paint.
@geofo603 жыл бұрын
I’ve been trying to see where the moisture traps are from the compressor through to the pressure regulators and finally the gun. I can’t see any !! I’m thinking the “oil smuts” are coming from the compressor and contaminating the final delivery of air to the gun & the paint. I agree that natural oils from the skin could play a part ( but only a small one). My personal preference for wiping the panels down is Spirit Wipe/Degreaser, and a tack cloth to remove fine dust. I don’t know if Florite is available in Canada but two drops per a litre of mixed paint generally works to get rid of fish eyes. Just my two pennies worth as a now retired Automotive paint refinisher with forty five years experience of high end vehicle body repair, custom paintwork and building Hotrods.
@aamantium13 жыл бұрын
@@geofo60 same here. Personally, I use a collection system where my compressor comes in the shop. I have my compressor piping make long runs with two drops that have ball valves at the bottoms. At the exterior of my booth, I have incandescent bead air drier. Inside the booth, there is a small brass air drier/drain and there are disposable air driers for each of my guns. The best way to fix fisheyes, is to prevent them in the first place!
@jeffeaton52213 жыл бұрын
@@aamantium1 Disposable air driers is called ckokers lol it reduces cfm. if you have a great filter system do not need a cheap filter that will only reduce cfm.
@jimdavison40773 жыл бұрын
@@geofo60 we use to have a product called Smoothies in a white pump bottle with green writting. Have not seen it in a long time. Silicone is real bad for fisheye and a lot of automotive detailing products have Silicone in them. Usually not much issue with base coat clear though, if you get it then whatever caused it must be pretty bad. I only sprayed a little water base and never has any issue but has anyone else ever had issues with water based paint?
@geofo603 жыл бұрын
@@jimdavison4077 I haven’t used any water based paint, I was off the shop floor and in a collar & tie when it was being introduced. I’m not conversant with the product you mentioned. The Florite came in an eye dropper bottle & was very effective. As for silicone, it’s a paint shop nightmare !!

Love your show Chad and your knowledge of car crafting is awesome! Your imagination on building these custom cars is so quick and slick it has a life of its own and watching you do your thing along with your beautiful assistant Jolene you guys have something that's very special. I just want to say that life is short we all know this so it is always more important to make best of the time we have and strive for excellence. My point im trying to make here is i feel your show is would attract allot of attention if you were more involved in finishing your beautiful creations proactively all at once not finishing one car completely but all of them a little each at a time everyday and not stray off into other things like painting that gas station for friends and side hussels. You could easily assign those little jobs to someone else under your guidance or save them for other video diy's . Staying on point with completion of your wonderful cars should be the main point of your show and i believe you would have much success in your videos by getting those cars on the road to their new owners which is probably the altimate goal eventually. Always a pleasure watching you guys with whatever you do but it would be more interesting to see you guys working these dream cars into the work or art they are.

Chad I was lookin at the painting and I think what can cause the fish eye 👁 is how you use your bare hands to wipe down, remember our hands automatically let's go a oily substance , I think a tac-rag will be much better, I'm a autobody straightener also... What I do is before I use the tac rag I open it and let it air out for 15 mins so it's not sticky when using it... Another thing is with solid colors I don't wet it at the first coat... I semi wet it first, cause I thin down my paint a bit extra also... But by just dusting on a coat it will cover up the fisheyes

Turning the air cap on the gun would make a horizontal pattern which would make spraying easier on those .I used spray guns daily in HS shop class. I would break the gun apart and put the parts in a plastic pickle jar with thinner. I would put the gun in there upside down. Rat Rod Bob has a great simple design for a water trap.
