If the effect is not smooth enough then, set the resolution of the document to 300 PPI or more. How to fix Gaussian blur cut off problem in Illustrator. How To Fix Gaussian Blur Clipping Problem.

This solved my problem, thank you! For anyone having issues with this not working, you need to delete the blur/appearance effect and create a new effect AFTER changing the document raster settings.

For some reason mine is set to 10 and everytime I put a number in it just resets back to 10? It won't let me go higher, help?

You can try uninstalling the software and then clean all the residue files using some kind of cleaner like CCleaner and then restart the computer. After that install the latest version and check if problem still exists.

@@PSDesign I did but it doesn't seem to work. I'm trying to get rid of some Gaussian blur stroke on the outside of an object, but the clipping mask doesn't work and nothing works. Can you please help?

Try using 72 or 300 PPI and see what happens.
