Hari Prasad ji do you not need to set the point gap at BTDC after setting the gap of 0.4mm at TDC by bringing the piston down by 2 to 3mm then again set the gap at maximum0.05mm by rotating the complete stator to either left or right to increase or decrease the points gap respectively? This is the recommended procedure to set the ignition of Yezdi in the user manual.

Yes I know. But I said only rough calculation. Because again we start the bike and tune the beat also. I am using strobe bulb to set the points.

Hello I am from Allahabad, UP. While adjusting the points is it not necessary to set the point gap at BTDC ( behind top dead centre) also? which is as per the manual should not be more than .05 mm.

Yes, it is. I tried to do that but couldn't. Manual says, stator should be rotated clockwise/anti-clockwise. However, when I try rotating the stator, entire point rotates along with it making no difference to the gap. It is just ridiculous.

@chrispbacon5027 I am also from Allahabad and have been riding Yezdi for the last many years I have never had any problem with setting the point or to be precise, the ignition timing. The correct process is to set the point gap at TDC, which should not be more than 0.45 mm. I use a ballpoint pen body to mark both TDC and BTDC. I drew a 15mm line with 5mm markings on the ball pen body.. When the DTC has been reached( by rotating the crank clockwise), set the point gap to 0.45 or less. The BTDC is selected by rotating the crank anti-clockwise to bring down the piston by 2.5 to 4 mm. which be easily achieved by allowing the piston to go down between 2.5 and 4mm by watching the marking on the ball pen.The point gap at BTDC should not be more than .05mm. If it is found less loosen the magnet screws slightly and turn the magnet to the left till the correct gap is set, on the other hand if the gap is more then turn the magnet( the complete stator) to the right. Then tighten the two screws. With little practice it becomes very easy. Just try it.

​@@RammoyRay I do the exact same thing, except I keep the breaker gap at 0.35mm at TDC. At fiting time (2.5 mm on the left to TDC), I keep the breaker gap 0.04 mm. Even after doing all these, my Yezdi is giving me a hard time. It only starts backward (reverse). I suspect that coiling is damaged. I am tired of this shit and I am going to convert it to CDI.
