I'm a shade tree that loves working on my 96 4-runner limited (200,000 miles) I've replaced valve cover gasket , injectors etc lots of prevent maintenance under hood & suspension. The kickdown cable escaped my attention up until watching your video. Took close look @ it yesterday finding it 4 threads too tight. Loosened it up & shifting - acceleration is so much smoother. Performance has improved greatly!

You showed nothing about making the most important thing about the kick down cable.. It needs to be adjusted perfectly so the transmission will kick down properly

I know this might be a long shot but you have any advice on the adjustment length? Everything I find talks about a 32nd of an inch clearance from that rubber boot at the end but on my 1.8 I don’t have the boot

Thank you, Peter! I had already released the clip on the housing of my 2000 Corrolla kickdown cable since it was bound up in there. That fixed the bind, but the cable had been stretched, so it still wouldn't kickdown. WHy I didn't think about these adjusters I don't know. Sometimes, I just need to be hit in the head with a brick. Thanks for the easy fix. It's working great now!

Hello, I live in Turkey. I own a 1995 model 1600cc injection corolla. The adjustment of the kick down rope of my vehicle is not exactly right, but the master yo who did this where I live, watched your videos before, and changed the thermostat, the heat sensor, the radiator. Do you have a video of adjusting the kick down rope? Or can you tell me the tricks? please ı need your help.when he shifts into gear he hits forward. started to throw the gears at higher revs than before, I think it is because the rope is out of order

After 3 hours of ugtas, I brought the kick down rope to the best position by trial and error but my idle is high right now.

all gears change properly even kick down cable not adjusted, it cause problem when driving up on the hill and when take over cars, it wont lower the gear and will load weight on high gears instead low gear, definitely does stress to gearbox & engine and extra fuel consumption,

Sounds like you might want to have overdrive off or put it into 3rd while going up the hill then switch it back once you're done going uphill or passing

HI. I have a 1997 Toyota T100, 4WD, Automatic, SR5, 3.4L V6, with roughly 350,000 miles on it. A couple years ago, I noticed the transmission did not want to shift down to 1st gear at a stop. I had to begin manually shifting in "L", then shift up to 2nd, then "D". Finally, about a year ago, it stopped shifting into top gear, but it also would Illuminate the "D" & "L" lights at the same time, and would not shift out of first gear . So it sat. This Labor Day weekend, I decided I was going to change out all three shift solenoids. I finally got all the work done and was ready for a test drive. At first, it acted the same with the "D" & "L" lights illuminated. I shifted into "2" and was returning home. I stopped at a sign, put it into "D" and the "L" didn't light up. So I turned around the block to put it on the highway and test it at speed, before I got to the highway, the "L" came on again and wouldn't go off again while in "D". My battery is fried from sitting so long and old age, and I do have some electrical problems with the truck. My right headlight will get really dim sometimes, and the only way to get it back to normal is to disconnect the left headlight, then reconnect it. With the lights acting the way they are, and the shifting correcting itself for a short while, then malfunctioning again, I'm curious if the whole thing is nothing more than some sort of electrical grounding issue. I live in rural Indiana and no transmission shops would touch my Toyota with a ten foot pole, so i had to do it myself. Any insights? P.S. Getting error codes 0440 & 0500 0440 is trouble with the EVAP control system, which makes sense because my 4WD won't engage. 0500 is Vehicle Speed Sensor, which makes sense because my speedometer hasn't worked in years.

I would like to know what is the issue when i let off the gas when i go around 2000 or more than 2000rpm in higways and suddenly when im about to release the accelerator or gas the whole car jerks for a few seconds ...!? Im having an old toyota camry model 2001-02 have done gear oil and filter chage twice have cleaned throtte body and airflow but doesnt hlp me to fix this issue !!!! I hope u can reply to my issue for fixing it !
