HOW TO FIX LOOSE BEARINGS

Hello, I need your opinion on that, I did brakes and bearings this week-end and I thight the castle nut to 50 pound torque and loose it and tight it by hand until it stop. I did a little road test and find out a bit of a play when I jack the wheels to see if I have play, not a big play but a little one. Do you recommand to have realy no play when you push on your tire rignt to left and top to bottom ? Thanks you very much for your help.

Thanks for watching! You should be able to feel a little play, but not see the play. I recommend putting some more miles on it and adjust the play out of it and you should be fine. Hope that makes sense.

Good afternoon! I have to adjust my rear left wheel bearing… and I see you’re turning your wheel counter clockwise, but I googled and it said turn the wheel clockwise. Does it matter which wheel with which way you turn the wheel?

Hi. That’s a great question! I always turn the wheel counter clockwise, regardless of which wheel it is. The old shop manuals and the shop standard has always been to turn counter clockwise. But the current manuals suggest that it’s okay to go either direction. It has been my experience that turning counter clockwise produces a more desired result. Again, that’s counter clockwise, regardless of which wheel you’re turning. Thanks for watching the channel!

My trailer has cast aluminum bearing caps. Do you think those are safe to reuse?

Thanks for the video. I am adjusting the front tapered bearings in my 2WD pickup. My question is…with the tire off the ground, should the tire move at all when you grab the 12 and 6 position? Mine moves just a teeny tiny bit.

Hi! Thanks for watching. The same concept that applies to trailer tires/bearings works on pickups, too. You shouldn’t be able to see the movement, but lightly feel it.

I’m getting grease spots on the outer surface of my trailer wheel. Could that be from just a leaking cap?

Have you ever used a bearing spacer? Essentially a sleve that goes between the outer and inner bearing that takes up the slack so that you can torque the bearings with a torque wrench without causing them to be overly tight on the hub assembly. I personally haven't, but i have seen them before and found it interesting.

Cool idea but wouldn't they wear and create slop? You have to have a succession of spacers

@@MichaelBrown-wx6zq the inner part of the bearing doesn't spin on the spindle. And that is where the spacer goes. So I dont think that it would wear out

What if bearings are too tight?

Good question! If they are too tight, it can cause overheating and premature wear or failure.

That is not how to adjust a wheel bearing. That is much to tight and all that preload will burn those bearings up you should have one to two thousands end play when you are finished adjustment.

That was a disappointment. I wanted to see what was wrong with the rear axle.

Nothing to be disappointed about. There was nothing wrong with the rear axle. Just needed the adjustment that was shown. Later it got its bearings repacked all the way around. 👍👍
