I think the problem with Ole isn't necessarily about result but its about having the same problem for about 2 year and the management can't seem to fix it... And those problem are:- cant break low blocks,cant press as a unit,conceding set pieces and not scoring set pieces,right side of the field cant create enough with Mason and AWB and the biggest problem always cant keep clean sheets and having to rely on comeback

I have no doubt whatsoever that Atalanta would have put up 4 or 5 goals with Robben Gosens who’s one of the best wingbacks in Europe and Pessina who’s Atalanta’s best Attacking Mid which is a vitally important role in their system. Plus with their two best central defenders also out Gasparini went very defensive early on to help, and that just lets Man U consistently apply pressure and get way too many shots. And with the quality of attackers Man U has it wasn’t very difficult to score a few goals on a backup defense. Taking off Ilicic early for defense as well was huge, who we know is one of the most devastating attackers in Europe. It would be scary to think what a full strength Atalanta would have done to Man U, considering they still banged 2 goals in 30min. But that was my point for the Liverpool match. The comeback against Atalanta didn’t mean poo, what a lot of people made it seem to be a big win. And they came very close to losing that match, which to me showed just how poor they are in reality. Of course Atalanta is one of the best clubs in Europe but when they are that decimated by injuries it’s a significant issue. Especially because they are still relatively very small and the drop off in quality from the starters is dramatic, even much more so for their defenders which is by far the weakest part of the squad. Nowhere near the depth of Man U. So I expected a team like Liverpool to run them over. Atalanta would have undoubtedly done the same with their true starting squad.

The problem with United is, they need a "tactical" manager to fix their team but they need an "influential" manager to actually get the stars in control. As a United fan, I really don't want many of the names. Simeone, Conte, Poch, I really don't think any of them would be great as they all would require a huge squad upheaval to get to where they need to be. Likewise, likes of Rodgers, Potter, even ten Haag they don't have enough credentials to properly control the stars; like can't imagine them being able to tell a combination of Ronaldo, Cavani, Sancho, Pogba or Rashford to be on the bench without at least one of them kick up a fuss, which Ole is immune from. The squad is just very unbalanced. The problem on Conte on Pat's point is, will the board sanction the types of players Conte wants? Like give him this window, Conte surely would had asked for a DM, and I would assume Ole would had too, but they got Ronaldo. Ole would toe the line and say positive things, but surely Conte would blow up about how he is overruled. Though Zidane is a very good manager for this team. Someone who is able to be play a pragmatic team while flushed with attacking talent. Zidane's Madrid is defensively sound first and relied/gave freedom to the attacking talent, the problem is, he did have some very good midfield talent to work with. Kroos and Modric for their defensive (mainly pace) deficiency can suffocate teams with their control; something Bruno and Pogba can't do with their cavalier approach.

PROBLEM "Doesn't matter if you have prime Makelele in that 2 man midfield, it wouldn't make a difference" SOLUTION "Buy 2 competent CDMs" I think you are contradicting yourself a little. Obviously they can upgrade this area massively, but it ain't gonna solve the problem. They DO need a system change to suit the squad, 3-4-3 and sometimes a 3-5-2 depending on the opponents. De Gea, AWB, Varane, Maguire RWB, Fred, Bruno, SHAW Sancho, Cavani, Rashford. If they do this, I would suggest RWB is the priority over CDM. Rashford, Sancho or Martial technically could play there...? Pogba could play in the middle when they switch to a 3-5-2, or on the left at times. Lingard can come in too. Then a CDM and CB cover to give more depth for playing 3 regularly. CDM - Rice, Phillips, Neves or Ndidi CB cover - M.Keane, J.Evans, Tarkowski. I'm not sure who would be a good fit at RWB.
