How to Fix Nintendo Switch SD Card not Detected

Tools screw driver used in this video is a Y00 screwdriver.
After you remove the black tape all you have to do is press down firmly on the area where the card reader connector is you should hear a click that's it.
If for same reasons your Nintendo switch doesn't turn on press the on off button for 30 to 40 secs.

Worked perfectly, I can’t thank you enough for helping everyone with this issue! At first I had a slight problem but I figured it out. If anyone else is reading this comment looking for help, THIS REGARDS THE SENSOR UNDER THE BLACK FOAM, it did not click into place at first. First, do not force it too hard! The technology is very small and just be gentle, not too strong. I used some tweezers to very carefully pull the little square thing out. I found out that the connection is a little downward, so you need to slightly push the thing down (with tweezers or a toothpick or something) and then try to push to snap it into place. You can tell it is connected when it doesn’t want to spring back up. Hope this helped anyone!

Underrated video, my stepdad and I followed the instructions and now my Switch is fixed. Only comment would be that the Y00 screwdriver only worked for the screws on the corners. The other ones needed Phillips screwdrivers.

I know I am a bit late but I wanted to thank you for this video as it saved me about 2 weeks of a wait time and at least $100 for the fix. A word of caution though is be careful when you are taking the plastic back frame off as the legs that the screws screw into are kind of fragile and I ended up breaking a couple of mine and had to order another back piece for my switch. another thing to is do not be afraid to take that screw off of the SD card reader and re-seat it with it out because you kind of have to push hard and have it lined up properly until you hear a snap/click noise. While you are in there, tighten the silver screw on the left side of the SD Card slot. When that screw is loose, the board wiggles side to side when inserting and removing the card and that is what causes the connector to get unplugged. You can clearly see the screw on the left side of the card slot at the 3:30 mark in the video.

Thank you for this video. My daughters SD card on switch was not working and by following step by step what you did I was able to fix it myself, saving me at least $110. The only thing I wish you would explain, is what tools you need to take it apart. I had to watch many other videos and finally one of them had all the tools I needed. I never new what a Y00 screwdriver was and learned that I needed to purchase one to take the back of the switch off. Overall great video, thank you for sharing it.

EDIT... after writing info below I seen someone had the same tendative idea. END EDIT Absolutely BRILLIANT sharing of knowledge and thanks for that. However, before committing to opening the switch I used your video to get an orientation on were that wee black pad you took off and reapplied. Instead of opening I pressed firmly where I reckoned the black pad was and hey presto! I got a positive result! the SD card was detected.

Worked perfectly for my Switch too. The only screwdrivers needed for this repair: PH00 2.0x25mm and Y00 2.0x25mm. Not every PH00 or Y00 is the same, I learned.

@@sheogorathsshitbag172 I don't recommend using the 1.5x25mm screwdrivers because they could strip the screws. You can find them on Amazon (if Amazon ships to wherever you are). I bought the AKTOO brand, sold by AKTOO. It's a set of 4 screwdrivers (PH00 2.0x25mm, Y00 2.0x25mm, PH00 1.5x25mm, Y00 1.5x25mm) for $10.89 USD.

It was really the loose plug that the switch did not recognize the SD card. I had already given up until I found this video. My daughter thanks you a thousand times that she can now expand her Switch with memory.

Thank You for this video! I just fixed my SD card reader in under 20 minutes. Was extremely simple once I got the right repair kit. My SD card reader NEVER worked since I got the console but it was always a hassle to send in. I finally built up the courage to take a crack at it and it was flawless. Apparently, Nintendo never connected my SD card reader, it was in there but never clicked in like you show in the video. Thanks again!

This helped so much, I replaced the fan and didn't know I could remove the black foam part... the sensor was lose and taking the foam off made it so much easier to place the sensor correctly.

This worked! Bought a brand new SDHC 128GB from Amazon (Their own brand). Plugged in the card, and it wasn’t even detecting. Checked the card worked on a laptop. Clearly a fault with the Switch. Numerous attempts of blowing, cleaning, restarting trying to update all reached the same conclusion. It was a hardware issue. Thought I was going to have to get a replacement part or have it repaired. Stumbled across this video and would you know it, bad connection on the board. Fixed my problem. I had to be careful as it was a bit of a struggle to get the pins lined up correctly and to push it in securely without breaking it. Really straight forward instructions.

Holy Cow! I can only describe this as like setting a tiny hot dog into a equally tiny bun. Took Iwakaski's comment and lifted the "little square thing out" so I could see how it had to be replaced. Also, used a bright LED flashlight with the beam angled so I could see what I was doing. Found it easier to get the pins set after removing the screw that held the ribbon in place. This further allowed me to see how the pins were being placed.

So my SD reader worked a couple of years ago, but now I am unable to access it. I saw in the video the switch said that it had to delete ALL data on the SD card, but I don’t want to delete all the old videos/pictures that I have saved on there. Is there any way I could save the videos/pictures somehow and acess them again?

I didn't realize this was the root of the problem - a bad plug from the slot to the board inside. Some days the system would work but the loading times would take forever, and other times it wouldn't work at all. Thanks for posting this. You saved me $100. And if it happens again, at least I know how to fix it.

If you have the tools to open up the case and have a kid that’s a bit rough on is system this is the fix for it as was the case for my 7 year old! Great fix video! A note you should tell people you need special screwdrivers there y shaped for the back four on the back of the case! Ty

I had the same issue with my one. I took it for repair and got it fixed for about a month then it started to happen again. I then took it apart and wedged a thin piece of rubber in there. I think the stock foam pad is not thick/strong enough enough to keep the sd card reader attached.

I tried this. It worked for a minute or two and then popped out of place completely. The chip wasn't connected. I tried to line it up as best I could and pressed, then added the pad over it. Closed it all up and screwed everything back together. It worked. Then as I was in settings it didn't read the memory card again. I don't know how to get it to not pop out.

That it was the sd card that was the problem. After awhile figured it was the switch that was the problem. Did this and it worked! A little hard to find Y/tri point screws but was able to find them.
