I’m not going to tap into a consultation on line because your time and expertise is valuable and you should be paid for it. I feel fortunate to have access to 1200 acres of oak habitat. 2 ponds a 5 acre field and a 30 acre field which is bedding and during the rut has bucks running through it fairly consistently during. Many bucks die of old age there. Too much food. Mainly brush and acorns are so thick you can slide on them rolling under your feet, and really no prospect for ag plantings due to rocky sandy soil. Huge properties surrounding with no ag. Oklahoma ranch country where cattle and oil wells are the main activity. All this to say I love the info and the strategies. If I could ever control access and do a few impactful things you talk about I’m sure the hunting could be improved greatly. Kudos Jeff! Great stuff.

Used some of these tactic tactics throughout the year to try and see some more life to the property I hunt, which isn’t all that big 6-8 acres at most. Through late winter into spring/summer I had seen crazy numbers sometimes up to 7 doe at once and a couple bucks around early to mid morning to later in the afternoons(roughly 1-3 hours before dark) but around early to middle October everything seemed to have went nocturnal. I’m taking the educated guess on saying that it’s more than likely their patterns changing, maybe a spook or two from others who own property through here, and the hunting pressure is mostly minimal. Now approaching into peak rut, with cold mornings and relatively warm afternoons, I know their coming in close to dark because the other day I had two doe come in close but I let them walk due to believing off their action there was a buck behind them, outside of that I would’ve been ecstatic with one of them does. All of this being said, is there any advice you could give me if you see this comment that could help my success this season with their only being a week left of gun season and maybe having 2-3 more sits?

Hey Jeff. About how many acres of food plot would you use for 40 acres? I live in a place with a pretty even split between ag and woods. And thanks for these videos that are super helpful.

General rule of thumb for most people is 3% of the total acreage... so 40 acres equals equivalent to 0.1114 of a acre or 4,856 sq feet roughly ⅛ of a acre foodplot... Personally i don't think that's enough i try to stay with ⅛-¼ acre per 10 acre ratio, make multiple plots in various places that makes sense depending on you're property layout, also depends if your property has ag around, don't try and compete against farmer's you will lose that battle. If you have ag in area I'd focus on targeting something else to make your property stand out! just my opinion though hope it helps

It’s unbelievable how even people I know talk of using your methods of setting up their property and then accessing their stands by walking right through the middle of their property, through two food plots right to a box blind in the wide open without regard to wind direction. I just shake my head 🤦

Jeff, have all your books, watched all your videos and you have helped me soooo much. How early in the fall should you have daylight pics of bucks....I got some bucks early fall, but most my bucks are 20 October and later. I keep thinking I need bucks earlier in the fall and not sure how to do this. Is this property run only. I feel that my summer presence.....doing plots and such pushes bucks away

I have my doe bedding and buck bedding very tight to the food(does 50ish yards) (bucks 150 -200 yards ish) and there is no good way to get between the food and bedding so I simply don’t do it. I have good morning stands and perfect to access muddy blinds on the food sources. Any tips on getting between the food and bedding?? Our farm is 400 acres so I feel like I should be to! Thanks for the videos Jeff!!!!!

Hey Jeff last fall for the first time I planted 3 layers of winter rye for the first time in my woods (in an attempt to have some type of food plot) to attract deer im 3 miles south of MIO and im in pure sand (I removed a few trees for sunlight but ofcourse I don't get all day sun (I removed Leafs and twigs of course) is there anything you can share with me that I should plant in addition??? I know you make great sound suggestions (and I respect your knowledge) so if you get this message I have 10 acres and wooded ( again so small parcel and wooded ( and all sand) tks Jeff awesome videos 3rd year following your videos ( ps sorry you didn't get venty)

Our problem is we have land that is mostly fields so we have food but so does everybody else’s land and it’s closer. There is a small woods in between all the fields that we know they are in almost all the time. Problem is we could only ever be hunting upwind of the deer plus the guy who owns it doesn’t even live in the same state and nobody knows him. The deer almost always will come out about 60 yards from the woods and go back in after eating some corn or beans.It’s been years since the last time we got a deer. Any advice would be great thanks.

To encourage woody browse in an old farm field, you just spray the grass with a grass specific herbicide?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure that is one way...the grasses do really nothing for wildlife in terms of food or cover...unless a true cover grass like switch to the north or native grasses mid country
