I really don't think its as much frame rate as it is frame time. I picked up a PG27AQDM a few months ago and it was driving me nuts. It drove me nuts how VRR flicker didn't seem to be something that anyone was really covering. But even on a 4090 / 7950x3D setup i was still getting flickering even when capping my FPS. The only common factor was in games where the frame time was bad. Capping it lower may help with the frame time, but that's not the frame rate that fixed the flicker. IE: In Remnant II, I was getting ~200 FPS on average. I capped it lower at 144. I didn't dip below 144 and was still getting flickering. Capped it at 120 and the same thing. Ended up returning the monitor for now. VRR flicker is a problem on all monitors but is just more apparent on OLEDs and VAs. OLED just wasnt for me, yet.

Exactly. On Tarkov it was unfixable, the game has a bit of frame-time wobblery and there was no getting around it at all. Disabled VRR for Tarkov specifically and it was fine. Now playing STLKER SOC even with the FPS locked to 180fps, the frametime spikes produce noticeable flickering. Again, disabled VRR for it and it has been smooth sailing.

In Fortnite on an 144hz IPS panel I had major stuttering when unlocked or fps capped at 240, when I capped to 144, the stuttering and performance issues went away. I thought it was better to allow the fps uncapped for lower input lag but I don't believe this is true and it caused issues. Not exactly the same issue but similar.
@sudd36605 ай бұрын
you only benefit from uncapped fps is you get at least 100fps over the capped. i do not get enough fps in Fortnite and fps cap is not a benefit for me. a cap only works if it lowers the fps at some point. but i do have a afterburn cap that works in all games and set it to 2 fps lower than monitor refresh rate. so i get gsync activation at all times.

Sooooo manufacturers aim these monitors at gamers, with Gsync (granted that's now outdated and useless and overpriced) and Freesync (the only type you should buy as it covers Nvidia and AMD) added, yet this causes flickering (like it does on my Alienware AW2725DF OLED 360hz) and is ONLY fixable by turning off Freesync (in my case via AMD Adrenaline software, which absolutely does fix the slight flickering I get). Wow...

Please. Limiting FPS barely helps. There are very few games that ever manage to consistently hold their frame rates. As such, there will always be an issue when using poor VRR implementations. Albion online for example freezes for just the tiniest fraction of a second when you mouse over a node in the destiny board. Is the stutter noticeable? Not really. Is the Gamma jumping around on my screen noticeable? Yes. So much I turned VRR off. And my screen uses an IPS Panel. Stop being an apologist for lazy display scaler development. VRR isn't new.
