How to Fix SDK Not Setup - The SDK for Windows is not installed properly, which is needed to generate data. Check the SDK section of the Launch On menu in the main toolbar to update SDK. Would you like to attempt to continue anyway?
Alright, so you just finished making an awesome game in the brand new Unreal Engine 5 and you go to package it for Windows and you get this error - “SDK Not Setup.” So how do you fix this warning?
If you are packaging the game for Windows, the first thing you need to do is install the latest version of the Windows SDK. Go to your search engine of choice and search for “Windows SDK” and it should be the first result. So the address should be developer.microsoft.com/ your language and region /windows/downloads/windows-sdk/.
Alright, so as it says here this is the “SDK for Windows 11” but don’t worry if you don’t have Windows 11. This works for Windows 7 and up. And then down here, you just click on this button to download the installer, and once it finishes downloading just run that and follow the instructions in order to install the SDK.
Next, go to the Unreal Engine 5 installation folder, which by default is located in C:\Program Files\Epic Games. Click on the folder for the version you’re trying to package for. Then go to Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\DotNet\Windows\host\fxr and, finally, 3.1.9. Use Ctrl+C to copy the hostfxr.dll file, then go back to the Engine\Binaries folder. From there go to DotNET\AutomationTool, and then use Ctrl+V to paste the dll file into this folder.
Finally, open a search engine again and search for “.net core 3.1” and look for the link to dotnet.microsoft.com that says “Download .NET Core 3.1.” And then click on the link for the 64-bit SDK installer. This will download an executable file. Once the file finishes downloading, run it to install this SDK.
Okay, and once you’ve completed those three steps you should be able to go back to Platforms - Windows - Package Project and be able to package your project without any errors.

Instead of restarting, try just going to "Platforms" and then "Refresh Platform Status". That's all it took for me.

If it still doesn't work after following the steps in the video, try restarting your computer. If that doesn't work, try going to Platforms -> Windows, then your device name, and click on "Force Update Device."

This may need to be heavily looked into and updated because as of July 2022 when I did this and UE5 stopped working, even after I removed the hostfx from the automation tool folder. I uninstalled and reinstalled UE5 and could no longer open project and would just get a "failed to launch editor" when I open the file through the folder or UE5 would just fail to open with no warnings if opening through the editor, but was able to still able to create new projects. This may be some new incompatibility with the SDK files. UE5 is installed on my D drive and the SDKs on my C drive so I guess that may be causing the issue but either way I cant use UE5 now with pre existing projects

I just completed this October 2022 and it worked perfectly. All of the files were on my C drive so that may indeed be the issue.

It's because you need the right sdk ue5.3.2 now includedms the version in the folder he clicked for reference when modding or extending the source keep in mind you will need VS2023 to do a manual compile of the engine from source enabling you access to the files to just edit on the fly

I do not have a 'Windows' folder within the 'DotNet' folder. Inside the DotNet folder, I only have a folder ("6.0.302") and a file ("NET SDK.tps").

For me I installed all the Windows SDKs available in Visual Studio 2022 installer, .NET Framework 4.8.1 SDK, and then the .NET core 3.1 runtime. Honestly I think Epic needs to improve their install documentation as I run into this issue on every single new machine I install on even after following the instructions on the official documentation. I think the issue is usually missing .NET core SDK.

I totally agree with you! For me, I need it to install this component too (as per UE Vers. 5.3.1): "MSVC v143 - VS 2022 C++ x64/x86 build tools (Latest)". It is very important to read carefully the error file after a failed package.

I still have a problem with compiling a game sample from UE. I have a different folder structure and dont have the 3.1.9 folder??? "Epic Games\UE_5.1\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\DotNet\6.0.302\windows\host\fxr\6.0.7\hostfxr.dll" In UE when i try to pack, it shows under sdk management that autosdk is not installed. Any solution?

For me this solution didn´t work. I use UE5.1 and i don´t have the folder with 3.1.9. I fixed it now with the following steps... I installed the Windows SDK. I installed the .Net Core 3.1. I installed MS Visual Studio 2022 Community. During installation i choose the "Gaming Setup C++" not Unity Setup. There are two setups for Gaming. The second one should be the right. Restart computer. Package on Windows now works. The step with the copy of the hostfx.dll is not necessary anymore... Don´t have that file in my AutomationTool folder. Hope someone else will help that fix. took me now 4h to fix that ****

I can't believe that in 2022, and dozens of UE iterations later, Epic still manages to fuck up every last step.
