I have the same problem but when I disassembled the chip that was very hot was the big one under the main chip on the right or above the one that you removed on the right side. The one that you removed is warm/hottish but it doesn't burn like the other one. Do you think that the same fix should work for my case too or no?

Check the power regulator near the main chip. Like 5 pin i think. and it should provide 3.3v if the voltage below 3.3v that means your bidirectional chip was damage try to remove the chip and check the voltage. Again.
