I live in Belgium, and government is starting an investigation here if the way EA treats micro transactions and loot boxes, could be seen as gambling. If they conclude it is gambling, EA faces a fine of several hundreds of thousands in fine, or could be forced to take the game off the market here. Good stuff EA. RelaxedRonin I agree. I don't for one minute think that EA didn't make an active choice to do this. They are fully aware of the consequences of their business model. They do tons of market research on every aspect of the industry. They weighed the pros and cons and decided this was their best course of action to pull as much profit out of this game as they could. They are operating under the assumption that there is no such thing as bad publicity. Anything that gets their game being talked about will generate game sales. But also, they have the Star Wars franchise and to a lot of people it's not about necessarily playing a good game, they want to play a star wars themed battle sim. In that regard they have a monopoly in the game space and to the gamers where franchise is important, they will jump through whatever hoops EA puts in front of them. EA isn't going to change the game. They have the game they wanted.

Look at GTA V. Incredible game, one of the greatest ever made? well worth the money ( i bought it twice. PS3 and PC). then they give you online mode, played the crap out of it on PS3. a few years pass and they have absolutely smashed it with top tier well made fun free content! constantly adding cool things to it and I have not paid a single penny more. the way they have done that is via shark cards or whatever. this has had zero effect on me enjoying the game or being competitive in vs modes, it has simply given those with little time but some money the chance to basically buy time and still enjoy all the content. they have made hundreds of millions of dollars all whilst extending the life of the game with excellent content free to every single player and not ruining or screwing anyone over. This is how it's done and EA are killing DICE (BF1 anybody?) and I will probably bet that Disney ( I assume they have the rights) do not appreciate this HUGE hate and backlash surrounding Star Wars because their new movie is out and when ppl search Star Wars they are gonna be reading heavy negative pieces, its even on main stream news sites in the UK. Disney will be fucking pissed! and the designers/developer at DICE are most likely fucking fuming all their years of passion and hard work is overshadowed by EAs sick greed. Some game modes don't use gear stats, like 1v1 and 2v2, and you can create custom matches where gear stats are disabled. There is one major problem with cosmetic monetization - Star Wars franchise. Disney will not let EA rummage through visual concepts. For instance - Rey must look exactly like in the movies, Luke must wear exactly the same clothes, stormtroopers - they are all from the movies. You can't even mix the already existing styles from movies - want snowtrooper helmet, scout cloth and captain's shoulder? No way! I think this is the main reason why they do not bring in more advanced character customization - if they cannot create new projects, even based on films, they will not be able to create enough content.

Firstly - Are you sure about that? Lego games make more fun with the plot but the design from the movies remains untouched. They mix only the characters from diffrent movies and TV series. Thats all. There are no new Star Wars'ish characters, outfits, places in these games. Secondly - marketing. Lego is primarily a lego. There is no mistake. The first thing you see on the cover is that it is a lego game, then it is about SW. BUT - see the cover of Lego SW: the force awakens and poster for this movie. I clicked on this video & I was ready to hate everything you said just based on the title... but now I have a lot of respect for you, you are the most civil human being that has had any input on Star Wars Battlefront 2... So many people that are saying bad things about BF2 have not even played the game, they've just watched a video where somebody said typical phrases like "Loot Crates = Gambling" and "You WONT be any good at this game unless you spend a couple hundred dollars".... none of that is true, i have not spent a penny on this game, and I've unlocked all the hero's & villains, I've crafted a large number of star cards & I've been finishing in the top just about every match. I'm by no means a gamer, well at least not a Star Wars gamer, I play FIFA 18 religiously. It's been out 2-3 months and I've already logged about 700 games. so in the little time I've played BF2 I'm still able to succeed at the game with paying money.

How would that work? The 2005 one is fine and all, albeit a bit clunky, but you can only make a decade old game look so good. They would have to revamp and recreate everything, they really can't just slap modern graphics on it, otherwise modders would have done it already. Not to mention Pandemic studios still has the rights to the game, and they're bankrupt and non-existent now, so good luck finding the right person to buy it from.

He does make some great points. But i'd like to point out overwatch is a competitive shooter and has an addictive matchmaking system very similar to CS GO. Titanfall didnt have one and struggled. BF2 won't reach competitive levels of those games but it could get close. Pay 2 Win multiplayer shooters is a horrible design which described BF2's multiplayer. It should be rewarded by skill / time grind. I have 200 hours in OW and have 2 gold weapons but i dot have gold weapons for everyone. so its still a grind. To unlock characters in BF2 it shouldnt take any more than 80 hours and most crates should be unlocked easier with skill acquired points. so the better you play and the more you win you gain significantly more credits to make purchases and it doesn't take more than 80 hours to get everything. A GOLDEN Darth Vador could take maybe 150 hours and so forth but NEVER skill based gear. IMO

For Honor's microtransaction system is quite possibly the least intrusive thing I've seen in a game that still has a cash shop. Steel is decently easy to earn on your own through orders and single-player missions. Gear drops from completing matches with the hero you want it on, and you can accelerate your gear gain with the steel you earn from playing if you feel the need. Gear has a negligible amount of RNG involved in terms of the rolls, with fixed numerical combinations. Furthermore, the advantage given by maxed Legendary gear VS Maxed Rare gear is miniscule, though it definitely helps define your role. Finally, the only things anyone who has a brain would buy steel for... are cosmetics. Gear rarity is also locked behind reputation, not RNG or boxes! You can't even """pay to win""" without spending about a week or two mucking about with your hero of choice. At reputation level 7, Legendary gear begins dropping occasionally. At Reputation 9, you get nothing but legendaries - even from completing games. Don't talk shit about a game you clearly know nothing about. Our community is struggling as it is, we don't need -even more- people like you telling lies to a colossal audience to hurt its chances of growing even harder. Do your research before flapping your gums.

I used the term "pay to win" sarcastically. This is the extent of the "pay to win" in the game; 1. Level up a warrior to level 21, or Reputation/Prestige 1 (10-20 games) 2. Do that seven more times, to become Reputation/Prestige 8 3.1. Spend 50USD on steel, and open a shitload of boxes until you're geared - at reputation 7, items have a 50% chance to be legendary, and at rep 8, it goes up to 100%. Spend the rest on an outfit. OR 3.2. Spend the steel that you earned whilst levelling up your warrior to open a shitload of boxes until you're geared. Spend the rest on an emote or something. Provided you clear your daily orders for both EXP and steel, which is the best way to grind reputation, you'll have **earned** about 7-10k steel by the time you hit Rep 8, and that's enough to purchase 250 pieces of equipment, *all of which will be legendary items*. You're basically guaranteed to get the stats you want, and there's a damn good chance you'll be satisfied with your fashion as well. Do not open crates until at *least* rep 7, when you can start picking up legendary items - Commons, Rares, Heroics, and Epics will *frequently* drop as you complete matches, allowing you to get some gear as you go. FINALLY: The impact that gear has on your performance is pretty minimal, though it's strongly recommended that serious Tribute players pick up a full set of appropriate common/rare gear by popping a crate or two at rep 1. All you need is a rare helmet with DBR as it's primary stat, and Exhaustion Recovery as it's secondary, and that'll carry you through Tribute until you're minmaxed. There was a time when gear was oppressive. They then made commons like 30% weaker than legendaries; it's mostly a fashion thing aside from the whole "if you don't have at least a rare exhaustion/DBR helmet, you're going to literally get your face eaten", though that can be picked up at rep 1. It takes about a week and a half to grind out 20 bucks """""worth""""" of steel, but the option is always there for the terminally lazy or the extreme fashion whores. The grind is a tiny bit steep, but I've seen significantly worse. Plus, you get *everything* you need to gear up from the journey from level 0 to rep 8. Oh yeah, and did I mention that at reputation 8 and above, even the gear you pick up from winning matches has a 100% chance to be legendary? You can just save most of your steel for cosmetics if you really want to (though, gear *is* cosmetic, and I will buy my boxes until I look I N C R E D I B I L I S !, before worrying about outfits and ornaments) Yes, you have the option to spend money to shortcut maybe a few hours of progression (out of about 50) to acquire a hilariously miniscule statistical advantage that you could have gotten if you had saved some steel. You can also do it to purchase awesome cosmetic color schemes, effects, and ornaments for your favorite heroes, which is what a vast majority of those of us who *do* purchase steel use it for. Ubisoft doesn't make any attempts to force you to spend money, only to make you kind of want to.

Basically the way I understand it is that a publisher rolls in. Agrees to throw down money to fund the development up front. They also throw in their own stipulations etc. Which are agreed upon before development starts. Once the game is complete they start making their up front back and then some. That's why andromeda was forced into using the frostbite engine etc. They couldn't get the engine to mesh well with their game, but were forced to use it regardless because they agreed on the terms beforehand. Now they are no more because they signed a deal with the devil. I will not be surprised if Dice will go after this. If the game fails that is, which it looks like it may.

Thats not the issue. They used Frostbite on Inquisition and that faired far better then Andromeda. The issue with Andromeda was the fact that Bioware gave a Flagship Franchise to a rookie dev team that had only worked on DLC and patching for other games without seeing if they could handle building a full game from scratch. I've been playing a game called Planetside 2 for about 4 years now, and despite being 4 years old, it's still running strong. It has micro transactions in the game, but most of their purchases are purely cosmetic. Character armor, vehicle appearances, decals, helmets, etc. are all things you can pay for... but you don't NEED to buy these things to play the game. None of these things give you an advantage over other players, it simply exists to make you look cool. The only things you can buy that can possibly influence your strengths in the game is: weapons. You can buy weapons with money and unlock them for every character on your account, or you can grind experience to buy a weapon for a single character. The weapons are expensive if you're going the route of grinding experience, but Planetside 2 does a great job at providing players with awesome starting weapons. Every class' starting weapon can be as deadly as any purchased weapon if you really spend time learning to use the weapon and getting good with it. So basically: Planetside 2 is now 5 years old and still running strong because people don't have to put money into the game - they just need to log in, make a character, and let the killing begin. And yes, some people will raise the issue that there are now implants you need to gamble to unlock and use... but you don't need to purchase these implants in order to play the game. All Implants do is make your life easier. Sure, new players will notice that your overshield recharges faster than theirs, or you somehow knew there were tank mines down in front of you and you avoid them or blew them up, but for the most part, implants exist just to make it easier for you to do what you love doing. The benefit of these implants is: you can buy them with real money or, like weapons, you can unlock them with certifications (in-game experience-based currency). I love Planetside 2's business model (for the most part) because I can buy an armor, weapon, skin, etc. that I want without having to rely on gambling for it. It's there, its price is apparent, and everyone pays the same price to receive the same item. I loooove that! So I don't have a bunch of skins lying around that I'm never going to use because I'm not acquiring them via a loot box: I'm getting them by simply pointing and clicking on what I want. If Planetside 2 tried to do everything EA is doing with Battlefront 2, I guarantee they wouldn't have lasted a month.

Overwatch was able to sell over 35 million copies total, with about 1.4 billion in revenue just on sold copies, not including loot boxes(overwatch only costed 140mil to make BTW) Creating good, consumer friendly games without souless gambling is how you make profits. Treat your client with respect and care, and many will pay money for your game. It isn't like there is much cost to create copies of their games, since most are sold digitally rather than discs/cartridges. EA and other publishers are manipulating you into believing that they are just getting by, but they are one of the largest entertainment companies in the world.

I've never likes microtransactions in any game. And i don't like that almost everyone keeps saying "i don't mind a cash shop as long as" and so on. I would agree, sometimes, kind of. I was playing bf2 solo arcade trying to earn stars when I stopped getting credits I put down the game and said guess I'll pick this back up in 15 hours. Playing against bots is not the same as playing against people. If you play against bots what you unlock should only be unlocked for arcade mode. How is it fair that you just grind in arcade mode without ever stepping foot in multiplayer to get star cards (which help you in multiplayer) and get all the same things someone who is grinding in multiplayer. Another suggestion to go alongside yours is that the credits and crafting materials should not be in loot crates. They should be earned through play. And the game rewards credits in matches based on 80% time in game and 20% accomplishments. It should be the other way around. I sometimes see people in the rear lines just lingering. They know they can get rewarded for not doing anything. People that ranked at the top of the leader boards get just a little more than they do. What's the logic in this? I know they said they would "fix" this. So do it already. General release launch is tomorrow. No sleep until the game is fixed EA employees!!

I gave up, I'll give up on big western AAA games and go Japanese developed games like Nier Automata, FFXV，Persona 5, Monster Hunter games. They are complete experience from start to finish, their story are sweet and you learn something while no agenda shove onto my ass. There is hope in western games like Witcher 3, The Last of Us(fuck multiplayer), Uncharted series, and tons of upcoming exclusives on ps4 keep me from playing horrible game like Call of Looty and Star Wars Lootboxes 2 where you get stress getting killed and yelled by 12 year old. A working person like me already competing in the real world......

Boogie, from watching this video, I felt as though you were an executive from either a sales team or the developers team... Your words are spot on and I seriously hope EA takes you seriously; along with other developers. With that said, I believe that not only would your ideas make more sales, it will bring a positive reputation to the companies and the games themselves. This would also help with future sales in games developed later on. People are going to remember the issues of the current games. If EA were to make another SWBF game in the next few years, the gaming community is going to be hesitant to get into the game. The only way to guarantee success in the future is to show they are serious about making the game the way its players want it now.

This is a clear exposition of EA recent loot box mania. I'm a TF2 player for about 3 years or so. Tf2 has a ton of loot box that requires you to buy keys to open them. The difference between TF2 and Battlefront 2 is that TF2 loot boxes most of the time have cosmetics, re-skins and some other articles that don't affect or affect very little the gameplay. Weapons are given to the player via achievements or random loot drops. Before becoming a premium user in tf2 ( you become premium after spending at least 1 buck on the store), i used to sometimes beat the crap out of premium players, even those with unusual cosmetics. So EA need to learn about this and fix Battlefront 2.

I don't understand why they just don't make a custom hero class with all kinds of unlockable species/characters, outfits, powers, weapons, lightsaber colors/skins etc. So when you grind enough credits in a match you get to play with your own custom hero rather than a pre built trash u got to grind 400 hours for. Make the loot crates for that not the normal characters in the game. I refuse to play an fps with unbalanced stuff. I don't want to have the same gun as someone but theirs does 2X dmg because of a card.

For Honor isn't pay to win though? Sure there are little things you can get from loot boxes that increase your stats by 1% but it isn't difficult in any standard of measurement to obtain that by just playing the game. Check those statements.

For a game like Starwars Battlefront, I don't think an Overwatch model would work because there is likely a limit on customisation, possibly set by LucasFilms. I do, however, think a system akin to PUBG's would work; limited customisation options at a much higher price. Allow people to show their love for the game by donning exclusive skins that cost more than they're probably worth, and have the rest of us enjoy the game without them (or have a very slim chance of aquiring them). Just my two cents.

You cannot expect him to try to list all the customization options for different characters. Between The actual movies and the tv shows like rebels and the clone wars and other stuff there are a lot. Like i for one would love a skin for yoda. Like a dark yoda skin when he fights the evil force manafested version of himself at the end of the clone wars tv show. I would buy loot crate after loot crate just for a chance to get that skin no matter the drop rate and i would be able to feel good about myself afterwards because im only buying cosmetics. Im not particpating in a scummy system that is a detriment to the gaming community. Edit: But i expect that at some point they will add cosmetics like this. Only problem is there will probably still be this horrible star card and progression loot box system when it happens.

I didn't mean how many different customisation options does each character have within the universe, I meant specifically within the game. Because if there are, say, 5-10 per character it makes what EA has done with loot boxes even more shitty. I completely agree, I think they could easily make the money from cosmetics only, but my point was: are they even able to add in a sufficient amount of skins to match Overwatch's model or are there possible license restrictions from LucasFilms? Maybe they need to go the super-expensive skin route if they're this hell-bent on making a shit load of money.

There is no character customization besides emotes and "MVP" poses. The first game had quite a bit of customization, but it was a huge ass grind to get any of it.

Westwood Studios who made Dune II and Command and Conquer, Origin who made the Ultima and Wing Commander games, Bioware who made DA 1, ME and KOTOR and Baldur's Gate, Maxis, DICE (see this game and last Battlefront), Visceral who was going to give us a single player Star Wars game from the greatest female writer in video game history, while EA pretends they care about women, when they paid for a monopoly on Star Wars (just like Madden and the NFL) and Lucas Arts who made wonderful games was sacked. We NEED A 80's style video game crash. Game journalism is completely corrupt, the studio workers are slaves working on projects they aren't passionate about for mega publishers. No one but studios under the mega publishers can even compete due to how corrupt marketing and game journalism has gotten. It has gotten so bad that IGN employees WITH NO EXPERIENCE like Mitch Dyer, get hired by EA as writers, over qualified minorities, while they virtue signal on Twitter. In the last video game crash Nintendo and INDEPENDENT PC devs survived. They are all that is worth keeping anyways. Companies like CDPR. Let them die Boogie. The Triple A industry, game journalism. Let it all burn.

I have over 6 k hours in elder scrolls V unmodded for PS3 and 600 hours for pc version modded and 250 hours in special edition modded Then there’s EA “we want a game people will play for years” so to accomplish this we will make it pay to win and drive the player base away before the game even comes out Want a game people will play for years easy make a game like the OG Battlefront 2 improve it make several large dlcs about say 3 for 20-30 dollars like what CD Projekt Red Did with whitcher so the game should already have about 20-30 multiplayer matches and 20 heros of light and dark side each 10 for clone wars 10 for the imperial age and 10for the new order in the base game the base game itself would have enough content for multiplayer for 2 years and the dlc would have add even more people will get bored of the multiplayer if it’s pay to win and people will refuse to play it If nothing changes the game will be dead at launch I’ve already made up my mind I’ve not purchased a AAA title since whicher 3 becuase it has been the only title that was not trash And no I never purchased special edition of elder scrolls V I got it for free and it was a rerelease so it does not count And while idiots support the triple A bs and hand them money I’ll remain content with the Older games Like Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Star Wars Republic commando Star Wars battlefront Star Wars battlefront2 Star Wars.
