Had the exact same problem and the dealer said it would cost ~$300 to fix. I got the part at Advance with the 20% off for about $24. Installation was kind of a pain, took about 45 minutes in total. Quiet as a mouse now, though! Thank you for the help!!

Hi, I saw you video on how to fix clicking noise in a 200 Chrysler. It looked somewhat easy so I thought I'd see if that was what was wrong with my car. Sure enough, that's the problem. Thank you so much for your video. Boy, you weren't lying about how hard it was to get those darn things out. I had to lay upside down to get under there to get them. It took me 25 minutes to complete the job. Who says men are the only ones that can fix cars. LOL!

Major thanks!!! I started noticing that my battery had been running down the last few days (2010 Sebring), though the clicking problem has been happening for a couple months or so; I was fixing another problem with my car today (a leak from the thermostat housing), so I spent time around the car with it turned off and noticed the clicking was happening intermittently even with no key in the ignition. I figure that was what has been draining the battery. It was no fun, but it was a great feeling of relief to fix two problems that I thought might be much more difficult (and maybe expensive) to fix. Thanks again for taking the time to record and post your very helpful video!!!!

I just completed this repair but one was to the right of the glove box and the other was on the driver's side. The driver's side actuator is right above the gas pedal which I had to do laying on my back using 1 hand. No problem because it was reachable. I bought Dorman one from Autozone but they only had 1 in stock so I repaired the OEM actuator on the driver's side. Just drill a hole through where that plastic piece broke off and put a stainless steel screw and two nuts through the whole entire mechanism. I also used threadlocker to make sure they'd never back out and good as new!

Watched your video last winter when the actuator went bad in the wife's 200, it was a great help. I ended up also pulling down the lower dash to give more access to the part, a couple trim panels and about a 1/2 dozen screws. Worked a lot better for me, not so flexible at 71 as I used to be. Like you I used an aftermarket part rather than oem to save a few bucks. That was a mistake, unfortunately the aftermarket actuator failed after about 7 months so I had to do that repair all over again. This time I bought the oem actuator, hope it lasts. This car also had the dreaded clogged heater core but she got lucky and after a chemical flush RadAir restored about 90% of the heat capability. These newer cars are a nightmare to work on. Thanks for the video.

@jamesmc80557 жыл бұрын
Eye Ball my 2012 avenger is doing the same and I'm taking my entire dash apart to fix it. It's one of two problems, if not both: a stuck/broken blend door actuator or a plugged up heater core. There's three blend door actuators, one on each side of the heater box and the one replaced in this video, which is on the right side of the blower box. This one controls the recycled air vent, which will draw fresh air from outside or recycled air from inside the car. The actuator on the right side of the heater box controls which vents get air, feet vents, face vents, or windshield defrost vents. The third is on the left side of the heater box and it directs airflow to either AC or heater core. This actuator is causing the different temps on each side, it's stuck between AC and heater. The heater core clogging up is a common problem for the Avenger/200, but a recall was never issued. You can tell if your heater core is clogged if it's blowing hot air, even if it's just on one side. The repair will cost $1200-$2500 to get either fixed, or about $100 to buy both parts and do it yourself. If all you want to do is replace the hot/cold actuator, it's located behind where the radio sits but cannot be reached by removing the radio. It is possible to get to it from behind the steering column, but will be very difficult.

@GetOutTheHouseGoFish6 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t say that it is since you have a different model car and it’s behind the drivers dash. Try looking on the Kia forums to see if others are having similar sounds for that model and year vehicle and also make a video and post it on KZbin so then someone can actually see and hear what is happening. That’s what I did initially until I found out what the problem was. You can upload straight to KZbin using your smartphone. I hope this helps.

Do you know how to fix this for a Dodge Durango because I'm having that same sound but slowly and the heater keeps turning on and off

No I’m sorry I don’t but maybe there is a write up in one of the forums.

My 2010 Dodge Journey does this every day when i either turn the AC on or the Heater. It does it for a few minutes then stops. Could this be the same problem?
@GetOutTheHouseGoFish6 жыл бұрын
Joshua Carter 90% chance I would say.

My 2010 journey does this too. Never tried the heat, as I'm in Florida. But it's funny the way I found out, I was on a road trip and had stopped to sleep for a bit. I pulled into a semi-busy gas station and pulled over to an empty side of the parking lot. Went to sleep and about an hour later woke up to the tapping. I thought it was the police so I jumped up, looked around and saw nothing. Kinda freaked me out but assumed I dreamed it and went back to sleep. Woke up to the tapping again, saw nothing and started to panic. Didn't know whether to grab my infant son and run (thinking it was a ghost) or crank up and take off (thinking maybe it was a weirdo messing with me). I was sitting there for what felt like 20minutes just going out of my mind, turned off the AC so I could hear if anyone was around, nothing, turned it back on, tapping, off to listen, nothing, on again, tapping. Then I realized what was happening and immediately busted out historical laughing! Lol

Was this a dealer part or aftermarket? Sometimes Chrysler doesn't always work with aftermarket..
@GetOutTheHouseGoFish5 жыл бұрын
I got the part from a local auto parts store. It worked.

Nice, So that part that you replaced was called an ac actuator?

It's been two years; did you keep the Chrysler 200? If so have you had any other issues? I had picked up from a 'reputable used car dealer' (oxymoron) same car as yours, it had been a rental and I'm the third owner. With near 87K miles it took two days for the clicking to begin on the driver's side (I guess this is where the third actuator is located) and surprisingly upon alerting my dealer they immediately knew what the issue was and also fixed the thing at no charge to me. The car had a couple other concerns that arose over the weekend while I waited to get the car to a repair shop at my convenience; clunking between Drive & Reverse, Exhaust Manifold leak and a leak from the Tranny as well a Thermostat Housing leak. All this after the dealer prior to placing the car on their lot had a local shop do a '81 point inspection' that I was given a copy of the report/findings printed out as part of my purchase. Whomever did the inspection must have been in a hurry or serendipity prevailed. Lucky for me all the faults listed above just came to light within the dealer's 1,500 mile or 15 day warranty. All this happened when the car began to be driven around town by this 61 yr. old grandpa that only travels a few miles daily to work and to the store (less than 40 miles a week). The dealer took care to have each issue addressed even allowing me to choose my own mechanic, whom I trust, to perform the thermostat housing R & R. Would I recommend this used car dealer to another who like me was in a desperate situation where my trade in had fallen victim to a weird electrical concern? Maybe. My guess is you wouldn't recommend a Chrysler 200 to any close friends. Or am I wrong? I'd like to hear that you've had many carefree miles of use and that you still have your 200.

I actually just traded the Chrysler 200 back to Carvana and got a Jeep Patriot. The AC stopped blowing cold air so I refilled it and it did it again. Got some leak repair stuff in it and the next day Carvana came and picked up the car and delivered my new Jeep. Only other issue was on the passenger side the interior material by the window was peeling up and I kept trying to glue it down but didn’t work so well in this heat. I loved the 200 but not the problems it came with and I will miss driving the vehicle. Good luck to you and I hope you get all those problems resolved 🙂

@@GetOutTheHouseGoFish well I hope you have better luck finding a good fishing hole. Have you ever been on Scotty Kilmore's KZbin site? Scottie pans Chrysler to no end. Thanks for the update on your 200. I was in a bit of a fix and I had two choices at the dealer a Chevy that I didn't like the color or interior color either and I thought the Chrysler 200 look better and with the 4-cylinder drove pretty well on my test drive with the exception of a shake in the steering at 60 to 70 miles per hour which I have yet to sort out. Likely I need an alignment and maybe new front struts.

I just bought a 2014 Dodge Avenger and I noticed it started making this clicking sound on the same day but after I purchased it. Is it a coincidence that it also has 87,000 miles? Also, if this issue is so common doesn't it warrant a recall on these actuator parts?
@GetOutTheHouseGoFish5 жыл бұрын
Daniel it’s not too hard of a repair to do it yourself and the part isn’t that expensive, it’s just a pain in the butt to get under there to change out. I’ve since traded the 200 in for a Jeep. I am seeing now just how many people had the same issue with these actuators. I actually did enjoy my 200. I had a few problems with it and at the end I started having problems with the AC not blowing cold air. I refilled the AC and it leaked out then I refilled it with a leak sealer the day before I traded it back in to Carvana. Mine was getting close to 90k when I traded it in, I just figured I better trade it in before any bigger problems come up and I go in the negative with this car. I wish you luck and hope you get it resolved.

Have you sold the 200 yet? I agree with the recall, it's more of cheap parts along with bad design and improper R & R and or all three combined that defeats the HVAC system on this model and its siblings in a few ajacent model years. "LEMON LAW' is more appropriate bc you can't depend on a working defrost system which is mandated by Federal criteria for manufactures to have on our vehicles we purchase in the states. This funky constant failing HVAC actuator threesome does in my opinion qualify for the Lemon Law. I wonder if anyone has tried to get their car bought back by the dealer under this law? @@da8675

Thanks for the video im having the same problem on my 2014 200, if i was you i would check out your car with a lawyer i got contacted by an attorney because the 200's are classified as lemons anything from electrical to transmission but they need documents of repairs made under the warranty

Hey man, so I changed this part and my clicking issue went away. But now my coolant is running hot. And I have to turn heat on some to not get temp to high..... Does this part control or have any influence on coolant?
@GetOutTheHouseGoFish5 жыл бұрын
No this is just an actuator for the vents? Almost sounds like your thermostat might be going. I haven’t had that problem with this car. I did just recently add some R34 because the air wasn’t blowing cool.

Great instruction and very nicely done! I was able to get on my back from the driver's side to reach up with my right hand to remove and install the unit. A little uncomfortable for a 250+ lb dude. My lower back has a slight impression of the emergency brake handle.
