SO wonderful to see you repair something in this throwaway /buy a new one society. I remember my Father really wanted to own a Repair shop rather than a Loan office. Today I have to wonder if such a shop could stay alive, but I hope so. Brilliantly done, thank you .

Always fix your things before tossing them! Any average consumer would have just tossed that.

How did you get it open. Mine doesn’t have any screws or openings.

Bang it on the sidewalk progressively so it just starts to crack open at the seam and not explode open. You have one of the new kinds that have little sortof screws holding the 2 sides together except they dont screw they just press the 2 sides together.

Dude, I have fixed mine a couple dozen times. You are doing it upside down. Leave the wheel on the spindle. The thing you are putting on the spindle first is the access door .it should be on top. You won’t need to do that tweezer move. If yours is anything like mine, the clue for which side should be on top is the side with access holes for the screws. You’re gonna do an “oh duh” thing when you see it. Keep up the good work. To review, the wheel in which the spring resides and onto which the leash spools should be placed on the spindle with the access pop out lid on top, not on the bottom. The little pop off lid goes on last, right before you snap the whole thing back together.

Lol you are actually wrong, this is the newer version thst doesnt even have screws they are builtin pins as you can clearly see. They changed the screws to just pins so the halves come apart much easier when dog pulls too hard ripping the wheel out. They also reversed the door so people cant just fix them when they do openup/break. You cant turn the wheel around because then the angled wheel locks around the wheel perimeter wont catch and stop the leash from extending.

@@123Homefreeif that’s the case, that sucks. Intentionally making things hard to fix is satanic.

@@123Homefreethe problem mine has, & why it needs fixing a couple times a year, is that the end of the spring that gets bent to hold it on the spindle, ends up breaking. So each time I fix it, the spring gets about an inch shorter.

@@theopinionmachine606 yeah its evil, i agree that spooled metal band becomes too brittle to keep fixing after around 5 years of everyday ALLDAY use. Ive dwelled upon a mkre sustainable alternative to retractible leashes i came up with a way early on in my sheep toting yt videos but its only good to 10 feet where i have a loose loop at the end of the 10 foot paracord i slip my hand through then do this figure 8 wrap between my pinky and pointer finger as an easy enough motion to wind the 10 foot in and then just relax finger when the pet pulls and it comes unwound from fingers as needed. If you or anybody else can think of a more comparable 20foot extendible leash sustainable alternative id love to hear it cause thats actually kind of a deal breaker for this lifestyle, like i need to get tis donkey a heavy duty extendible leash to keep her from eating too much but i cant tie her with a regular string or leash cause she’ll get her legs wrapped up and i hear equins freakiut if they get wrappedwhereas my ram is oblivious to fetting wrapped up so doesnt thrash to get free like equins es are supposed to, the only way to tie and equine up so they have enough slack to eat and walk around is by tethering them with an extendible leash, tying the leash handle to sometuhing thats taller than their head. The retracting keeps the slack from dangling where she would get it tanlged in her legs. You can use a stiffish hose at the end 4’ of the leash to prevent them from getting tangled but i cant conveniently haul around a leasj with a 4 foot hose attached to it 😝

@@123Homefree my vacuum cleaner has a fantastic retractable cord. I see vacuum cleaners on the road & in trash all the time. Adapting one is probably too big a job to do without a variety of tools though. Another thing that came to mind is one of those fiberglass rods with a flag on the end that you see people putting on off road vehicles. Super bendy.

Thanks for this. You must be hard on things or you have a really large dog. I have had two flexis for over 10 years and they are still going strong. My dogs are just under 60lbs though. I hope Flexi hasn't made these less sturdy as I am considering a 3rd.
