How to Fix the PS2 eject/power button cable/cord

Here's how to fix the cable/cord from the power/eject button, if you accidentally pull it out when you open your PS2. hope it helps

When I was cleaning my daughter's ps2, I accidentally broke the flat computer cable away from the machine. After watching this video, I was able to figure out how to reattach it. I accidentally put a little tear in the ribbon as I was fixing the "grinding sound" from my PS2 so I bought a new ribbon for $2.50 on ebay and fixed the eject/reset button. Thanks for the help. The 9 year old PS2 is working like brand new now!

Cleaning the ps2 up a bit and the top case slips out of my hands and yanks the plug right out. 15 minutes later I no longer have a paperweight but a working ps2. If you screw this up, you aren't taking your time or being careful. Thanks for the help.

Mine wouldn't go back in. The ribbon was damaged and it would sit in there too loose. After many tries, and even getting a shock from the system (I unplugged it but touched it too fast apparently, hand still feels tingly), I finally got it to work. I had to put a piece of invisible tape on the back of the ribbon on the end that plugs in. Doing this made it thick enough to make contact and fit in there snug enough to stay. Such a design flaw on Sonys part having the buttons on the top shell like that. My PS2 would be dead right now (after just fixing the disc drive) if it weren't for less than a pennies worth of Scotch Tape.

You probably get shocked from one of the capacitors on the power supply board - even though the system is unplugged from AC power the capacitors can actually store a charge - like a battery. There is at least one big capacitor on the power supply board, if you touch the underside of the board where the capacitor is actually soldered, you'll get a nasty shock. It won't kill you but will hurt/startle like you said. If you want to be super safe you can discharge the capacitors by shorting them with a screwdriver - it will go BOOM and you might see sparks, but it actually won't damage anything.

Hello there, this video is very helpful. I see a couple comments about losing the blue strip. So i think its important for the cord to stay in place. If its become detached, i simply reattached it with tape but making sure not to cover anything metallic. It seemed to work for me. Overall, i was able to follow everything step by step

This is a perfect example of when someone makes instructional videos with good intentions and even possess the knowledge required to do so effectively. However, the inability to steady the camera, keep in focus, and aim it correctly makes the visual aid aspect of the video nearly useless in my opinion and honestly added more frustration while trying to complete my task.

fiddly is an understatement. I originally just had to re-align my disc tray (cause it wasn't opening all the way; chronically) ended up accidentally disconnecting that little bugger. separating the bottom from that metal / black plastic clip is huge. w/ o using it to pry it apart, youd never get that strip back into its receptacle!! it was a pain to pop back in. thanks for the video. don't know what I woulda done w/o it. :) anyway, got it all back together. its working. gave me an excuse to clean the inside of the PS2, that's for sure.

If a child has been leaning on the draw while open it can put the sliding tray out of align. I reconnected the power and ejected the draw then disconnected the power to allow me to fidget with the sliding draw untill it was back on its tracks.

@kryn37 well i had the same problem when i had my ps2 all you need to do is well in the exact moment disconnect the power cord and then before you do that you need to open it and then disconnect the power cord and when its sticking out all the way you need to wait 2 mins and then connect it again and then it should go back to the way it was(warning results may vary or lead do crap out)
