The market is very saturated though and companies are not offering free services due to high demand. If your files weren’t that important, just move on and learn from this. Start backing up ALL important files unto multiple storages.

My USB drive issue is: Write protected. Cannot formated because is write protected. In Registry Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies WriteProtect value 0" the drive is still write protected. The status in "online", "Current read only" , "the file type is RAW" so windows is unable to check the drive. F/r/x doesnt work. Non of this is working for me, Windows can´t complete formating, disk management gives out CRC-Error, MiniTool Partition Wizard doesn´t let me do anything with that drive and even in Windows installation I can´t delete and recreate that drive. It happened when my StraightPower failed right after warrenty (yes, it was a 2008 series which got world wide fame for bad caps) and it was laying around for years. Would I have any chance recovering the drive using Linux?

Had a perfectly working internal m.2 drive in NTFS. Came home to a crashed game and the drive doing all sorts of weird things. Checkdisk won't work, says I need more privileges, and then running as admin gives the RAW error, even though Computer Management still shows the disk formatted as NTFS. So not the usual scenario. Pretty glad I hadn't mirrored my primary on to this drive yet and pretty pissed at WD right now.

@@LethaR_YT It just fixed itself with a few reboots. It did it once more after I wrote that comment and then hasn't since, so who the heck knows what was going on with it. I also had all sorts of issues with a new vid card that ended up fixing themselves just with what seemed like new drivers a LONG time after the card was released, so I think these days it might just be crappy driver support. Sorry I can't be of more help, hope you figure it out!

I have the same thing going on with my WD ssd. There is no fix other than to maybe try re-formatting anyways or just get a different ssd. I don't get how there are files and directories which cannot be opened because 'a device which does not exist was specified' while upon the same drive I can load and play games. Meanwhile chkdsk says its in RAW format which means I shouldn't even be able to browse files at all while Disk Manager says everything is hunkydory.

I just bought a Toshiba Canvio 2TB online and formatted it to NTFS, it worked well for hours until it crashed. I went to the online store to read more about the product. It is said that it only supports exFAT format and never to be reformattes to NTFS.. Now I am having problem to revert it back to exFAT, cause I can't anymore access the drive itself. It shows up on the computer but when you try to open it, it only says "There is no disk...." I tried the Chkdsk, device manager and windows troubleshooter.. None worked. For anyone reading this: I believe this is caused by HDD damage - the HDD software identifies too many bad sectors, basically your hdd is gone, and it changes it to raw format and read-only to protect the data. Your HDD is gone nothing more to do. Mine is 4 tb 95% full.. and I can`t retrieve anything.....

5:48 Adding to solution: In case the disk is not present in the upper list you can find it in the lower list. In his case where it says Disk 1. Right-click the grey area and select "Format". Then the rest should be the same.

The drive with the RAW file does not appear under the Volume List. It does appear below (as a box) with a disk number and size, but it will not let me format it. When I left click properties in explorer, it says the drive has 0. I get cyclic redundancy error when trying command prompts, in addition to the RAW error.

I have tried your idea and a few others and what I'm talking about is a ScanDisk Cruiser USB 16GB thumb drive. I have two of them and I may have erased everything such that it can't work or it's just too old. There's nothing on it (well, that being quite literal), it was just laying around and I was only going to use it as a recovery stick. I also had an 8GB flash that I did successfully repair, so it was not that I hadn't tried it before and I think I tried everything. I hate letting go of old stuff if it works, but I think since they can be replaced so cheap now it was an exercise in learning. I probably paid $45 when they were new and they're probably $8 now. Right-click on the unallocated space and select "New Simple Volume." Follow the wizard to create a new partition with the full 128GB capacity. Check for Hidden Partitions: Sometimes, pen drives have hidden partitions that occupy a portion of the drive's capacity. Use a tool like "DiskPart" in the Command Prompt to clean and repartition the drive: Open Command Prompt as an administrator. Type diskpart and press Enter. Type list disk and press Enter to see a list of available disks. Identify your 128GB pen drive and note its disk number. Type select disk X (replace X with your disk number) and press Enter. Generally, if you force unplug your SD card, USB, external hard drive or any other removable device quite frequently without using Safely Remove option, the partition table of the device will get corrupted and turn to RAW which is unreadable by Windows. And there you might get the disk formatting error message: "You need to format the disk in drive X before using it. However, this is not the only reason that can lead to the disk formatting error. There are other reasons, for example virus attack, corrupted Master Boot Record, partition loss, bad sectors, some computer file system corruption and more. But sorry that Recoverit software does not support to fix these errors, but Recoverit can help you recover files from inaccessible drive after you can format your external storage device. Even after formatting the data, the software cannot be 100% guaranteed to recover your data successfully.

i am sure i am not the only one but before win 10 i never had a hd go raw but since win ten it went raw on usb ssd and hdrives i just formatted a hd to ntfs (not quick) all went ok i went to fridge for a pop then went to copy some files to the drive it said needs to be formatted but when i went to format is said it could not perform action went to win management storage it said the drive is raw i managed to format again and so far ok like i said before win 10 i never ever had this problem only on win 10 and not only 1 computer it happens on several machines and no there was no power interruptions or anything else win 10 just all of a sudden for no reason decided to make the drives raw

Hi there, using the chkdsk command, I tried to fix my external HDD but It displayed the file system type (NTFS), however, the chkdsk process was aborted and a message pops out saying "the first NTFS boot sector is corrupt or unreadable". It works! However, in the disk management, it won't let me change the exfat to ntfs, it will later on change to raw and, again, repeat the problem. I hope you can help me solve this. Thanks

When i put in a USB adapter it works just fine and shows FAT32. Put it back in the native SD card reader, RAW.

Didn’t help I’m trying to fix a damaged D drive (not external) and I can’t afford to pay the rent or buy food so I’m lost it’s being treated as a raw drive -it kept going missing then I found a way to reveal hidden and damaged files/drives and now I’m stuck

Hi there, thank you for your question! Did you try Restore system to a previous point? Try rescan disks in Disk Management otherwise it might be an issue with that drive itself and u might need to take it to a professional.

@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware tried all the above nothing worked now my pc runs slower than ever -no virus or storage issues or many background running apps. Think I’ll have to take it to a professional so maybe I can afford to do that in about 3 yrs I hope. I guess pc’s are designed to fail to make you continue spending money I guess it’s purposely done like this… Shame as it need it to help me find a job. Thanks for the reply
