thank you so much, my son's xbox 360 just went red. He's got it for Christmas in 2010 and I was shocked it lasted this long. it was the power box for it. cleaned the vents and left it unplugged for a bit and now it's fine. think I'll shop for a new power adapter

3 red lights also means that if your power supply led is green when your xbox is on and showing the 3 lights its something wrong with your xbox.. (sometimes)

Yup me too, I was so scared after getting 3/4 ring which I heard only Microsoft could fix. This was literally right after I had taken apart, cleaned, and put back together my Xbox for the second time to fix a disc reader error. So I had voided the warranty and removed any possibility of being able to send it to Microsoft. All I had to do was remove the power cord, plug it back in, and reboot it! It worked. I'm so relieved. I probably would have tried that even if it wasn't for this video, but I'm giving it a thumbs up anyway.

Wii is one of my favorite consoles, i used to own one and it lasted for 4 - 5 years, the reason why it broke is because the disc reader got messed up to the point where it damaged the rest of the system

Just my experience, I have both systems too and I dont play the xbox anymore because their disks scratch too easily even when just being in the system playing a game. And alot of people always talk about how they have to replace old 360 games because of it. I haven't heard anyone have to replace a ps3 game. So far.

@TheDog7118 And it also depends of the positions of your consoles. The ps3 will have a YLOD and turn itself off to prevent over heating which dont mean theres a problem just means its been on too much. The ps3 has a .1% failure rate and the xbox360 has a 33% failure rate.

What I'd do is press the power and disc eject buttons and it will show the different amount of rings One quarter is 1 Two quarters is 2 Three quarters is 3 Four quarters is 0 Go look up the error the lights show and it will tell you what the cause could possibly be

if your light on the power box is orange it either means your xbox is off or, there is insufficient power. if it is white it means it is unplugged or no power flowing to it. then the easiest way to fix it is to go to best buy and buy a new power supply box, if it doesnt work return it and get a new one

all you have to is unplug the back of the xbox , take out the hard drive, plug the xbox in and hold Y and R while turning on with controller, wait till it resets then unplug the back while running . put your hard drive back in and re instert the back plug then your good to go

If you guys have the red lights (only 3) all you need is to borrow the AC brick from a friend use theirs once your Xbox is fully on as in the menu unplug it and plug your AC brick back and it should work it happens because if a power glitch and will convince your Xbox to stop working with that AC brick

@99hockeynhl it's an average. total games bought divided by total purchasers. since the numbers are based off real consumer activity (supposedly) and not numbers rounded to make a neat calculation, a number like 6.6 is not surprising

In general keeping a console open is a bad idea. if it goes on power saving mode by itself (supposing you didn't turn it off) it's already better. old models of xbox have a bigger tendency to overheat. Still, if you don't use it just turn it off. it barely cost you any time really.
