Isnt the Banging caused by an Air lock in the system somewhere? Another cause it an unsupported run of Pipe.

It can be on older systems. Most appliances that use water valves that open and shut quickly will cause it too. My water pressure is close to 90psi so the constant opening and closing of those water valves on the dishmachine, ice machine and washer cause them to bang. This water hammer arrestor softens that bang.

Hey thanks for showing us your knowledge, I have a hammering noise in the wall behind the shut off hot water line is, i put a water hammer arrester between the shut off and the hot water flex hose is located and unfortunately the problem still is there. Any suggestions please,

Thanks for watching! Loose pipe maybe? Sometimes the older style pipe clamps and or standoffs come loose. The screws loosen up and can cause the same issue especially if you’re water pressure is on the high side.

Learned long ago to forget about the shutoff under the sink, and behind the toilets. Nothing but trouble. I always use the whole house shut off. I even had to replace that gate valve after screwing it shut for a repair and it broke in the closed position. I replaced it with a quarter turn ball valve. It's also important that you excerise that occasionally as well. I usually shut it on and off when I ride by on the mower. Those shut off valves at the point of service usually leak if you mess with them and seldom seal. They might last longer if they were excerised but realistically who is going to climb under the sink and behind the toilets every month or so?

The newer style half stop are like a ball valve seal so they last much longer. But I feel ya man, rubber seals don’t last

Most likely due to loose pipes or high water pressure. If all pipes do it then it’s worth having a pressure regulator installed

I purchased a 3/8in x 3/8 in and it fit onto the supply line to my dishwasher but did not fit onto the stop valve. I think my valve is 1/2in. I can’t seem to find an arrestor with those dimensions. Any idea what to do now?

Water hammer happens when it shuts off not when running

It is turning on and off when running to maintain water level. That is normal operation for all dishmachines, ice makers clothes washers etc. that fill valve opening and closing fast as they do causes the water hammer. Having pressure close to 90psi or loose pipes will cause the hammering. A PR would definitely help but would have to be at each appliance otherwise it would affect the overall pressure of the entire house.

This did not work. It removed toilet pipe bang for about 2 days and then it came back. I think I may need to just change my fill valve completely (fluidmaster 350) because when the float reaches the top and closes the water fill it happens semi-abruptly causing the pressure to push back into the wall and cause a bang even with the arrestor. I used this same model in this video.

@@theguyofalltrades also the toilet uses a push/pull stopper not twist, so I cant easily lower the pressure on the individual toilet

@@theguyofalltrades yeah I removed the tank lid to observe the fill valve and it closes too fast at the very end of the fill and then bang happens in the wall on just the 1 toilet.
