Kris - this is great ! thank you ... such a clear explanation :) sometimes -I will need to send the actual AI layered artboard with pattern motifs hanging off to a client (art licensing) - have you ever had to send a layered art file repeat pattern and how did you do this ditto: PS file (pattern for raster work) (if so; video would be great :)

Hi! I work almost exclusively in vector patterns and when handing off to a client I send them the .ai file showing the pattern tile plus a rectangle filled with the pattern. If you click and drag the pattern out of the swatches panel you'll see a copy of the pattern tile. I usually give the bounding box a black stroke so the client can see where the repeat ends. For PS patterns, I think most designers send a layered file with dimensions matching the repeat size. I hope that helps! I'm currently developing an online design course called Surface Pattern Playbook which will cover how to set up your files for clients. If you're interested, here's more info about the course: witty-designer-3461.ck.page/6e30132516

When I merge I loose some of my design. The design elements on the top disappear.

for me is not working, is not expanding/duplicating. I see it in the outline

I followed all the steps but when I went to merge, it just removed the square and made my pattern expand to it's natural state.

What can we do when the white lines are visible on the fabric printed with our pattern?
@krisruff5099 Жыл бұрын
That either means there's something wrong with your pattern repeat tile or a problem occurred when you exported the pattern -- for example if you are exporting an Adobe Illustrator file as a JPEG or TIFF. To check your repeat, open the file in Photoshop or Adobe Preview and zoom in until you can see individual pixels. Look at all the edges. If the edge pixels are a different color than the next row in, then you have a white hairline. Here's an article on how to export to avoid hairlines: krisruff.com/articles/ Or you can watch the process in my class, "Creating Repeat Patterns in Adobe Illustrator": krisruff.teachable.com/p/creating-repeat-patterns-in-illustrator You can use code INTROSPECIAL to get $10 off.
