How to Fix Your Load Order for Skyrim/Fallout 4 on Xbox

Hey everyone! This video started when I was making my video on the Opening Scene Overhaul. I included a load order issue I had in that video to show that it was important to show that there are some wonky things that can happen with mods. That was more geared towards newcomers to modding but I thought a video on the subject was a good idea. These are things that I always go through when I see issues with my load order so I thought it might help, especially that last one. This way, I can add some visuals to some of the modding questions I get in the comments.

I tried to make a new save and got stuck on a loading screen with the grey dragon logo and the black background, I don’t know what to do, I recently installed Beyond Skyrim: Bruma and wanted to make an imperial character and then this happens. Also I don’t know how to arrange my load order but my mods usually work fine without being arranged.

One thing I’ve found is nearly every crash I have is from animation mods especially during the scripted beginning I usually disable all animation mods and then re enable after I’ve gone into Helgen to start the playthrough Mods that add to the world like adding bring groups of npcs (spawns) or lots of animations usually seem to be the culprits when it comes to crashes. Disable mods one by by one and see what may be the issue. Most often I’ve found it’s almost always spawns and animations

Have you changed any of the button mappings? I made a Short about that awhile back. I changed the ‘Y’ button function and turns out the mod menu doesn’t like that. You can try making the controls default and see if that works, if you haven’t tried that yet.

Hey so there’s been a reoccurring issue that a bunch of people have had online over the years with disappearing water textures. Annoyingly each this same problem happens it’s for a different reason! But most of them are on PC so they can fix it by getting into the nitty gritty tech side. For me it’s the bigger trees mod. Which is gutting because it’s one of my favourites. I’ve messed around with the load order but I think it’s going to have to get deleted :(

@@Matt_the_TechRanger Well I don’t know all the ins and outs of LOD priorities but I did just disable all mods apart from bigger trees to see if it was down to conflicts but even when it’s JUST bigger trees that water texture is still missing. I don’t think there’s any other answer...

If you think it’s your load order then you might want to think about starting from scratch. I can’t say I’ve seen any water texture issues. I checked and this mod does add LOD so if you had something that has a LOD then that’ll conflict i.e. Skyland.

In my experience, my Skyrim suffers CTD far more frequently than my Fallout 4. I’m playing on XSX, is that uncommon? Granted I have more overhauls on Skyrim and I try to follow load order templates as best as I can .I CTD at dragon reach probably 50/50 the time, while I’ve only suffered 2 or 3 fallout CTD for about 100 hrs of gameplay

These games can be unstable but there must be a mod that is conflicting with another. There do seem to be more mods for Skyrim on console that really push things, like Open Cities. A load order template can be great for general structure but the problem is when you have an exception like that or a mod description saying you need specifically to put something in a certain spot.

For sure! Some of the smaller mods may not be known by some of the bigger modders but usually, if there are mod conflicts, the mod author will note them. Sometimes it takes some trial and error. There is always the nuclear option if you need to start over.

I downloaded Alternate Skyrim, and it completely ruined my game. Couldn't start a new game without an infinite loading screen, couldn't pick an already existing game because 80% of doors were gone or inaccessible and that's even if the game actually decides to load without taking forever and just closing itself out.

There’s an options menu when you go to ‘Creations’ now with an option to save it. That can be iffy though if you have some ghost space cause it’ll save that too. Haven’t tested it yet cause I was trying to get the load order video out at the time 😂 Best way would be to record your list with your Xbox or phone. Or you can make yourself a spreadsheet like me 😂

I would probably go for The Graphics Pack for all of your textures. I did a video awhile back on Skyland and the Graphics Pack that might help. Keep in mind that the Graphics Pack will take almost half your space since there are a lot of components. The other one, which I haven’t tried, would probably be Noble Skyrim.

Yea that one is a peculiar side effect of modding. It must have something to do with mods that modify NPCs and leftover mod data from mods like it. I’ve seen it a few times on my main save.

I have what i think looks like a perfect load order with everything in a category but as soon as i press new game, it crashes with a loud buzzing noise through my headphones. This shit is far too complicated and technical and all i need is someone to properly explain where shit is actually supposed to go in the load order.

There might be some mod conflicts that are causing you to crash. Too many mods that might modify the same things or mods that don’t play nice with others like Open Borders. Read mod descriptions for placement and to see if they mention that the mod can’t work with another. I have videos on the channel showing how I do things. Not perfect but learned enough over the past couple years to make some solid lists. It can be complicated but once you know your way around then it gets less tedious.

Do you know if Realistic Water Two causes crashing?. I'm on the Series X. It might be conflicting with Skyland AIO. I'm not sure.

Realistic Water Two should be fine as long as it is placed low and below anything that might modify water. If you used another mod like it before then it's always possible there might be some leftover mod data on your save. But it should definitely work with Skyland AIO.

There’s a lot that can make your game crash. Could be a UI/menu mod installed that doesn’t work with the Creations update. Could be your load order. Read mod descriptions and check for mod conflicts. If you’re continuing to have issues then you may have to rebuild.

I'm not super familiar with PS4 mods but what kind of overhauls do you have? If you have a lot of mods then I can see how that might make the PS4 work harder when loading those mods.

I think that is an issue not necessarily related to mods since it was happening when the DLC launched. You can try reverting to an older save or doing a hard reset on your console to see if that helps. You can try clearing your reserved space to start over with mods but that might just end up in you losing all of your mods and still crashing.

I'm having issues where I'll do the intro and get out the cave, start walking to Riverwood, and it crashes at the same spot making the right hand corner on the road. Even tried on several new characters. Changed load order and still same thing.

@@ChristopherOrgeron-ex6lp I don't. unfortunately. You'd have probably have to remove all mods and start a new save to see if that fixes things. It's possible there might be a conflict with your list but it could also just be Xbox Cloud issues.

You’ll usually crash if you install a mod and load up a save. You’ll want to close out after you get install a mod before loading in.

There's an issue right now with mods on Skyrim because of the last update. Bethesda is looking into it so I would hold off on doing anything with mods at the moment.

Hey, i am having a problem with the load order, i am playing skyrim special edition in xbox cloud gaming. The problem is: Some mods (for now the Unofficial patch, cloaks of skyrim and apocalypse magic) appear to be installed, but they dont work and dont even appear in the load order.

It’s a known issue with the last update. I wouldn’t recommend going to Mods until it’s fixed this week

Modified version of the one from April of last year. I just haven’t made a video on it yet. I’ve added more mods but they should still be fine on any Xbox. Main difference would be the Uncap FPS mod since that’ll work better on Series X/S.

Might be a good idea to start from scratch with the Nuclear option. That way, anything that was keeping you from playing will be wiped. However, keep in mind that if you load existing saves with different/new mods then you could still have issues. Building a new load order and starting a new game would be the best way to continue after the Nuclear option.

Riften had some issues when the game first launched. Sometimes I still get stutters there, even on Series X. What Xbox are you using?

If I do the nuclear option, can I keep my most recent save then redownload the mods I want? And when it says a save relies on this mod does that mean the mod is stuck in there or can I ignore that? For example I have modded extra quest on fallout 4 and I never came in contact with them yet, can I delete them and not affect the save?

It depends. The save games that I use for a lot of videos have had so many mods uninstalled and installed on but so far so good after 200+ hours on each game. I’ve had some weird things happen here and there but that can happen if I make a mistake on load order or have a conflicting mod. I’ve probably encountered more issues with mods in Skyrim rather than Fallout 4. When you start deleting stuff midgame, that mod data could stick around on your save. It could lead to issues with your load order but it might not depending on how much you’ve done that. In your case, I think you’d be fine to remove it if it’s a quest mod you haven’t interacted with yet.

Is there any consequences to a game crashing that can negatively affect console in any way?I had 2 crashes when I was changing load order and deactivated some mods,I just got my series x so I’m pretty concerned if I should use any mods at all if there’s a possibility of a crash.

Crashes will happen regardless but they won’t mess up your system. Just like any computer program, any game can crash as well. The danger can come from mods affecting your existing saves. If you have a bad load order, you can always clear your reserved space and start over. But some of that mod data can still hang onto exist saves.

Hey! Can you please tell me if the mod can fix strange shadows that lie on objects when the camera moves? They do not always appear, but I think you understand what it is about. They even darken the fog in the mountains when you rotate the camera. I played Skyrim on ps4 before and did not observe this there (although I may not have noticed), this is wildly annoying

You can fix it but I think it’s because you may have more than one mod with a LOD in it. These can be in greenery mods that might add it with something like trees. My subs actually helped me figure that out with my previous load order. So that’ll be step one and if you have a mod with a LOD in it, you’ll want to either remove it or place it above your texture mods. You should be able to see in the description if any of your mods have it.

@@alexfox4713 From my understanding, it's all stored in that Reserved Space section on your My Games & Apps. So when you delete that, that'll clear all your mods and info.. After that, if you do a hard reset, that'll clear your system's cache and you'll have a clean slate for Skyrim.

@@crazyk6041 First you’ll want to make sure you have any skin textures below your character mods. If you are using a mod like CBBE then only skin textures labeled with that will work. After you checked that, you can try this mods.bethesda.net/en/skyrim/mod-detail/4091987 and put it towards the bottom of your list. Then you should do a hard reset on your Xbox to clear the cache. If you’re still having issue then one of your character/beauty mods might be the culprit.

Hi, been trying to do survival mode on Fallout 4 recently, only have a few mods installed, Unnoficial patch and full dialogue interface. I get consistent crashes near goodneighbor, I know it's a very common issue but is there any fix for it.
