Great transformation! Yes it was painted. That era pieces did not come painted with chevron from the manufacture. That was a later pattern that started the last few years

I love the alabaster color over the raw wood. Sanding the color down a bit gave it a nice soft tone and really pulled the drawers together. I would assume the chevrons were done by someone who was very talented with stenciling. I would think maybe they used tape to make it so crisp, but that's a lot of taping. Beautiful result!

Chevron hasn’t been popular since about 1977 even my Barbie had a disco dress with a black and red shiny chevron design! It was definitely painted on recently to this late 80s early 90s piece.

It looks like an oak dresser. Oak was huge in the 90's and it was always natural, with that slight orange tinge to it. My mom has a whole living room set still she got in the 90's. So someone had painted the chevron on top. If it was from the factory, the whole dresser would have been painted. Not just the base and chevron top. That style didn't appear until mid 2000. Oak soaks and absorbs so that is my guess of why you have a residual pattern left over. Prestain may have helped that, but i dig the subtle look it gives.

Gol-LEEE, how do you just break off so many drawer pulls like that? You are great with the stencils. At the Dollar General, I got a stack of 30 stencils a little bigger than a deck of cards, they are heavy cardboard, but I have used them many times, since the paint just makes them more durable. I wonder how a plain, slight design would have been on those center panels? Those doors look a little plain compared to the rest. Anyway, great result. AND Congratulations. MY opinion on the chevrons on top, they were added 5 years ago and the pulls were painted.

The brown to white on front seems out of balance. The chevron was popular about 10+ years ago for somebody, not me. I believe it was painted on.The piece seems "heavy." I think it needs legs and take that bottom dated apron off.

Regardless of how the chevrons got there, you really leaned into them with the style of this piece. It just all ties together so beautifully. I hope you're proud of this one, I sure would be! Congratulations on a beautiful flip. I have a question about your 401(k)? I too, along with my wife, participate in FPU. In fact we are debt free and have taught the class several times. After being hit w cancer twice in the past 5 years, I had to stop working and cannot contribute to my 401k. How are you able to contribute to a 401k or IRA if your husband is self-employed? I’ve thought about starting my own business, creating a corp. and paying myself a salary..allowing me to contribute to my retirement because now I’d have an income. Not sure… Thank you and God bless!

Hi James- My husband went back to work in 2021 so he helps me on the weekends but not full time like before. So, we do the max contribute to his company 401 and then will open a ROTH after we have that maxed up to our 15% like Dave recommends. So very sorry to hear about your health issues.
