Great question, Trina. We put our tree away and will do an update video once we take it out for the this upcoming holiday season. My guess is you may have to add flock to it each year but I'm not 100% sure just yet.

I ordered directly from seasonsreflections on their website at a slightly lower price than amazon. Due to age I paid extra on tools to spare my hands. Bed, Bath, and Beyond sells a battery operated sifter. All you do is flip the switch once for a steady shower of snoflock. Now and then, dump the contents of the sifter and refill to get rid of accumulated larger chunks. I also bought primo quality spray misters from a local beauty supply store. You can pump the trigger once and the mist continues for several seconds. The smaller size bottle was less strain to use. I scooped a good quantity of powder out of the box and into a covered bowl. I filled the sifter from the bowl with a ladle. By using the bowl I avoided contaminating the Snoflock box. My tree has green wiring LED lights, but I had hidden the wires by careful wrapping and the flock is hiding what was still exposed. The led light bulbs are much smaller than incandescent so I masked them all with painters tape before flocking (tedious but probably less work than cleaning all the bulbs after flocking. I have slow glow twinkle lights and enjoy them too much to bury them in flock. Snoflock contains water-activated adhesive so do wear a mask to avoid clogging your lungs. Chase away the kids and the pets. The wet product is very slippery underfoot. Working outdoors avoids messy cleanup. You can use a breezy day to advantage if you keep moving so that the breeze blows the powder onto the tree. I am a smoker so I prewashed the tree. I sprayed a mild household cleaner on the greenery. Then dumped buckets of water on them to rinse (no garden hose at the moment). The rinsing water was not as dirty as I feared. I had applied WD40 to the exposed metal at the tree trunk so it would help repel excess water. I am hoping to learn if I can wash a flocked tree. I hear DIY flocking does need a touch up coat every few years so maybe that will be sufficient. I will force myself to wait many long days before I plug in the lights again. Note that my lights are rated for indoor/outdoor use so they are designed to withstand periodic rain, snow, sleet, and hail. To be on the safe side, I will wait until the entire tree is bone dry before adding electricity. Both Snobond and Snoflock claim to be the original best product, but I could not find a consumer review for comparison. Buyer beware because I bought Snobond on amazon before buying Snoflock. The Snobond delivery never arrived, the seller did not respond, and I did not get a refund. My snoflock purchase arrived promptly complete with an instruction brochure. When I was done with the flock I applied a final misting over the entire tree. While that last misting was still wet, I sprinkled Diamond Dust glitter (pulverized clear glass) over the flock. Snoflock does contain iridescent flakes to simulate sparkling snow but I want a snow and ice theme with tons of sparkle.

I grew up with my mom flocking our real cut trees. My Aunt flocked her tree pink one year. We used a “flocking gun” which worked like the devices you use to fertilize your yard, putting the product in the container and hooking up to the hose (sort of). Here’s how it worked. You put water in the container and then connect the bag of flock to the “gun”. Lastly you connect your vacuum hose with it attached to the OUTPUT so it blows instead of sucks. It worked so much better than using a spray bottle of water and sprinkling on the flocking. I’m thinking it’s time to bring the guns back. Maybe I’ll design one and put it in production. The guns are reusable so they last for a long long time.

Hi there! The tree I flocked was an indoor pre lit tree and we had no issues. I highly recommend flocking it outdoors though as it is very messy. Be sure to use a mask so you’re not inhaling the powder

Oh that's a great question and you may need to reach out to the company you purchase your flocking powder from. For us, we waiting and added the lights after we flocked the tree. I actually had no issue hanging ornaments at all. It doesn't affect the branches. And can make the ornaments "pop" more agains the heavy white snow effect.

I don't believe it will damage the lights already installed on the tree but I would check with the company that creates the flock you purchase (I highly recommend @seasonsreflections) and inquire with them to be sure.

Yes, unfortunately it is a mess. However, once it is in place it doesn’t fall off unless shaken or run into. Overall it doesn’t fall off easily but does make a mess when being moved.

Hi Nancy! Thanks for subscribing! The water helps the powder to solidify and adhere to the tree. If properly dried it should last a while however it does shed if moved so be prepared for that. Ours wasn’t too bad and the “snow” is easy to clean with a vacuum. But if the tree isn’t moved or messed with then it stays perfectly. Hope that makes sense. Good luck with your tree! It’s really a fun process and truly transformed the entire look of the tree.

Only 24 hours and that’s because we had rain move into our area. The directions say to leave it outside for 48 hours. Luckily we kept it in our foyer for an additional day so it wasn’t too bad and was dry by the time we moved it. 😃

Although yours turned out beautifully, it may be a suggestion to do a row of branches at a time, whilst keeping the rows above tied with string. This allows you to use your sieve more effectively for a more even treatment should you be doing a lighter one. It is a chore, but what I have done is to start at the top of a section and tie branches row by row, with a separate piece of string. Then you leave the bottom one open and fluff that and work from there. xx

While it may take longer to flock and install, I think the branches being in pieces will be make it look so realistic. Take your time and have lots of fun. It’s an undertaking but so worth it! Good luck!

I flocked my tree last week. I bought the 25 lb bag since I had a lot to flock. Mine turned out great on my older tree. My daughter has a newer, much more expensive tree and hers is falling off like crazy. Her tree has some plastic realistic looking branches and some of the older looking more traditional looking branches. It’s falling off the plastic branches. Any advice.

Oh that's a great but tough question. If she is using the seasons reflections product, I would reach out to their support team to inquire about next steps. David from their team is super helpful and I know they would be able to offer some insight and advice. Let me know what they say, I haven't experienced this issue and I'm curious what the solution is as well.

For flocking the lower branches that are hard to get to with the large mesh strainer, why not try adding the flocking mixture that you make up into a hand held flour sifter? You can purchase one for less than $5.00 at Walmart.

I know this is an old video, I’ve been reading and watching a lot and one thing that the manufacturer strongly says to do is to spray the flock with water as it’s falling from the straining. They say it is a must for best results.

If you apply it correctly and let it dry thoroughly, the flocking isn’t messy. We had a few pieces fall off from the ornaments but it was minimal.

Back about 20 years ago SnoFloc used to make a flocking gun that mixed water and flock together at the same time . It used to connect to a vacuum cleaner reverse blow out hose. They discontinued it 😡 It had been around since the 50's

Michy, how are you using the gloves? Are they doing something different than protecting your hands? I guess I sound dumb but truly have no idea how to really fluff the tree correctly.

Great question, Christa! I use them to protect my arms and hands while I fluff the tree. Expanding the branches that were “smushed” while in storage for the last year. The gloves made it super easy to get to the back of the branches near the inside center of the tree. It definitely made a huge difference because I wasn’t all scraped up so I could take my time to make the branches look more natural. I hope that’s helpful. 😃

I just took my tree out from last year. Some of the flock did fall off but the tree overall still looks beautiful! The flocking does not come off easily once applied so I would be prepared that your tree may not be green again. It’s not been sprayed enough then and allowed enough time to dry. Use more water and it should help adhere it to the branches

The price is not so bad when you consider the price of buying a flocked tree. Also, a little of the product goes a long way. There are household products to simulate flocking (spray paint, wall plaster, etc) but they are messy and don't hold up as well. One word of caution. The Sno-Flock powder contains a water activated adhesive. You don't want that in your lungs so be sure to wear a dust mask and chase the pets and kids away.

Has anyone mentioned to wear a mask when they use this? I did it and about choked to death. It’s not for people with bad lungs. That’s for sure. I wouldn’t recommend to do it inside either. Just saying.
