In this video I show you how I flute Remington 700 bolts at my shop. There are many ways you can do this, but this is the way we do them here at Hankins Custom Rifles

Years ago I used to do jobs like this on a Bridgeport using a dividing head geared to the X axis leadscrew with change gears. Not very efficient timewise, but it was a way. CNC is the best thing that ever happened to a machine shop.

Does deep flutes affect rigidity ? And accuracy ?
@mikejd35d236 жыл бұрын
I noticed the bolt you did at 22mins the program started with the bolt at a different angle. When you put the bolts back in the fixture you are threading them in. How do you make sure they are indexed the same?
@jeffhankins66166 жыл бұрын
Where the bolt stops depends on where the threads are started at the factory. I have seen them off 45 degrees or more. This will determine where they tighten up on the fixture. The starting position for the first flute is at 0 degrees on the RT so I can only tighten up the handle and let it be where it is.

Ran Mori Seiki NT's with nine axis as well as Mazak Integrex for oilfield companies. Haas makes a VF-9 that we used with four axis to do similar parts. Our charge out was $120/hr for machine time and the same for programming. Usually on GibbsCam a part like that would less than an hour.

@6.4hemidriver445 жыл бұрын
Nice work. Is there a functional reason as to why you would flute a bolt? I've heard fluting a rifle barrel decreases weight and increases surface area to aid in cooling.
@jeffhankins66165 жыл бұрын
The main reason is to give dust, dirt and or sand a place to go when in dirty environments

Hey I’ve got a question for ya lol when and how did so many people start making there own version of the 700/model 70 and can you do a video on the receiver and how it’s made ?? Hey I just wanted to know how they make it ??
@jeffhankins66164 жыл бұрын
I don't make recievers. I understand how they are made, but explaining it would take a lot of time. You might get lucky if you do a search on them and find someone that will share that information, but it is doubtful.

I can get you an action and flute the bolt, but this special id mostly for people that have the gun already and just want to add a little bling to it. This is a super price for doing this, most other people charge $75.00 and up to do this.
