Great video! Gotta love fly fishing for crappies in spring! That looks like a beautiful lake. I would love to fish there
@skorflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
I love my lake. The shoreline access is limited as are the number of houses and docks, so I feel priledged to live on it. But in the summer the number of pleasure boats can push fisherman off the main lake by late morning. So far this year the crappie fishing has been excellent. I have added a few twists to my crappie flies that seem to be making a big difference. Shoot me a message if you are ever out this way. Maybe I can take you out.

Great video! I need to fish the south asap.
@skorflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the South has some great fishing. I would love to see how you would use your electronics to break down my lake. It would be a cool show to come to a lake that you don't know, and ride with a local guide to see if you could find fish electronically and without his help and then hear his commentary on what you got right and what you missed.

I've never fished for crappie on the fly and now I'm intrigued. Would you rather stick with a floating line or an intermediate? Tempted to give it a try on one of my 4wt trout setup.

It depends on the time of year. I have caught some absolute beasts on a sinking line, but I mostly fish them in the spring when they are shallow. So at that time of year I like a dry line. The main thing is to use a very weedless (not fishless) fly. Because as you probably know, they are mostly in and around sunken brush.

@@skorflyfishing Make sure you use very light weed guard because crappie have a soft mouth and a soft bite

Exactly. And I do. I'm planning another video and I will probably put some extra info in about the weed guard I use.

Tarpon are the best fish to catch on a flyrod
@skorflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
I can't argue that. I have some tarpon video to put out. I am headed to Christmas Island in May. We'll see how Giant Trevally compare, but I am skeptical that they can get me more pumped than an adult tarpon.
@floridafishingguru53952 жыл бұрын
@@skorflyfishing I don’t have any fishing gear or boats that can handle adult tarpon but I could imagine. Thankfully I’m blessed with a kayak and a 9wt flyrod which gets me into tarpon from the 5-20lb range. I’ll be excited to see those videos.

@@floridafishingguru5395 honestly, that size might be the most fun. Big adults are awesome coming out of the water, but then there's usually a period of heavy hand to hand combat that starts to turn into work. I fish the panhandle migration and most of those fish are big. But the fish you are talking about give you a lot of the same excitement without the work.
@floridafishingguru53952 жыл бұрын
I agree they are perfect size. I still get a 5-10 minute bulldog fight with tons of acrobatics. But I don’t feel exhausted at the end.

And it has to be extra exciting from a kayak! Very cool.

What boat is that?
@skorflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
It's a Mitzi skiff technical poling skiff used for skinny water fishing in the salt. It also gets me into tight spaces on lakes.
