I thought about boosting a side business of cleaning aircraft to supplement. Going into Flight Schools I was turned down and sometimes offered a desk job, which is a good alternative I guess and mentioned in the video. Airports had trouble with me trying to work run a business on site. They wanted asinine insurance requirements ($1Mn / $3Mn Insurance) and all I wanted to clean were 152's and Cherokees.

Mike is right here about leasing your own plane to a flight school. My brother had a twin that he leased out to a school. It started to get thrashed. He didn't like it so he eventually took it back.
@amethystlegion3 жыл бұрын
Another thing I would add is making friends with an A&P. They often need to take planes up to verify repairs before returning to the customer and having an extra pilot to fly while they check things out is often useful. My instructor was working on his A&P as a side gig, so by the time I got my PP-ASEL, I also had 6 hours of multiengine time and two hours of complex single-engine time, plus some normal single-engine work, all for free. That's a couple grand or so right there.
@offenbacherspatio5 жыл бұрын
A good way to get flight time after you get your PPL is to join the civil air patrol. They normally have planes and will reimburse your fuel cost when flying missions. The great thing about this method is the more you make yourself available the more you will be called upon to fly missions for them.
@Apogge_kings5 жыл бұрын
M Chap so how does that work? I would like to learn the process.
@johnrumpf85595 жыл бұрын
CAP is great if you can actually fly and do “missions” I was there for a year and logged 1 hour of time.
@zealousideal2 жыл бұрын
But you’re also joining in to their mission and All that goes with it. It’s sort of like a small volunteer civilian search and rescue air force. Although not a bad gig, I always wanted to do it anyway and retired Air Force. And you may get to do some neat or important missions. But your not joining to fly…whenever you may RARELY do that. You’re joining to work and do their missions etc. So not the best example. But yes it’s a option somewhat.

Another option is to start a business, earn the money through the business to complete your pilot certification and then write off that educational expense as a legal tax write off for the business and go on to bigger and better things.

A piece of aircraft can be depreciated over time too. Fucking cash cow! My wife and I are authors/speakers and will have to travel to our locations to promote. Owning my own rig and flying it myself is way cheaper than paying first class fares and I´d have to rent a damn car anyway.
@elk94146 жыл бұрын
Exactly. If you play the game the right way, owning a plane is a tax write off almost every step of the way.
@CC-te4jz4 жыл бұрын
@ELK You’d have to justify that your use of the airplane is conducive to your running the business. Same with educational expenses. As an example, If you run a business repairing cars, deducting an airplane or the cost of pilot certification will not get you far.

I didn't ask for the first option; however, I have an A&P Certification and always offered to do the grunt work on the maintenance of the aircraft (while I was a student pilot) for free if a particular flight school if they would offer continuation of my flight training; unfortunately I usually just ended up doing the A&P work with no flight reward and had to resign while at least trying to persuade them to get money out of them for me being the one freely fixing their planes without the reward. They eventually only gave me the gas money it took me to get there, and what I actually had put in between home and work cost me more even after their small offers.

Don't do that. Colleges STEAL your cash. Find a career that's low stress and low cost to get to (like middle school math teacher and maybe upgrade to working for a flying car company like aeromobil) to make the cash to get you an electric aircraft, which should cost wayyy less for your private liscense. If you need help acquiring knowledge to get your low stress degree, hop on Khan Academy online, which is free; however, I highly recommend donating even if it's just a dollar a month because it's worth it and who can't afford a dollar a month??? It's worth it. Khan helped me pass my praxis core exam (which is the hardest of three, unless you're not weak in any core subject (math, reading writing))to become a teacher.
@peterwonaprize5 жыл бұрын
Yeah don't listen to Gundam 00, that was some unhinged nonsense. A middle school math teacher sounds very stressful, with terrible pay, and an overall lousy investment unless there's a passion teaching kids...and flying car companies don't even exist yet and haven't been approved by the FAA. Electric planes aren't even on the market for consumers and the inherent short range would be pretty useless for cross country solos. You probably wouldn't pass your Private FAA checkride unless you're familiar with piston engine aircraft. And Khan Academy isn't accredited for anything and those classes don't count towards any type of degree. At best, Khan Academy is only useful for personal study and review. Anyway if your community college has an established pilot training program, it's is a very affordable way to complete Private through Commercial ground schools and other important pilot courses like aviation meteorology, navigation, and aircraft engines & systems. Some flight schools have partnerships with community colleges that offer great discounts on instruction plane rentals for students. GI Bill should be able to cover that.

Watch it be one of those "up to officer's discretion" laws, but he's not exactly getting compensation-technically and you'd think most authorities know about this sort of hussle and don't care otherwise they'd specify the compensation aspect a little more in the guidelines. Plus I haven't heard of anyone even hearing of anyone who got on trouble for this. And to be honest it's not really free or actual compensation as you're trading labor for labor either way and leasing out your current lease COULD help but is also a gamble. But hey I say it's creative and smart and if you're just starting out and low on funds and this is your passion then you make it happen- you do what you gotta do because scared money don't make money!

"The average pilot flies a hundred hours a year." If you're talking about PPL holders that fly as a hobby, I wish I were living in such a place. Where I'm from the average pilot will fly the bare minimum to keep his license, and the guys that make flying their primary objective and invest all the time and money they have on it will fly at most 50 hours a year. Beyond that I find only pilots that will pursue a commercial approach later on.

A bachelor's degree is currently required by many of the airlines, but I find this requirement will be obsolete at some point. If you have your pilot certification and have the required hours, chances are you will find a good paying gig regardless of a BA
