The B26 Martin Marauder required unusually high take off and landing speeds that if not met would result in a crash. The plane was called the “widow maker”. Despite the term, the B26 had one of the lowest loss rates of any bomber in WW2.

This is one of the reasons it was sometimes referred to as "Martin's Miscarriage." The high TO and landing speeds made it very tricky to fly, especially for relatively inexperienced pilots. And, as the film illustrates, getting the CG right was critical for maneuverability and performance. Later models lengthened the wings somewhat, which lowered the landing and TO speeds, but they were still high in comparison to, say, the B-25 Mitchell.

Not if you don't weight and balance right. You'll be gone allright. Right into ground. Now go get your shine box and fill it with forms 0400-D-0001-something, slide rule, weight adjuster slide rule.

The interesting thing about this film is that to this day, in USAF cargo aircraft, the “Form F” is still used as the weight and balance form.

emphasis on proper loading can never be overstressed whether aircraft or ship and is far too often neglected or abused.

This film is from the Second World War, and it starts by saying, "LOADING". They didn't have video games in those days, (they really didn't have televisions either), so, why? After watching the movie, I figured out that this is just one in a series of films about flying the Martin B-26. The, "Loading" was the title of this chapter, where they talk about successfully loading the aircraft so that i is not nose heavy or tail heavy when in flight. I would like to see all of the movies about this aircraft, as I like flight instruction films. Does anyone know if this procedure was unique to the B-26, or was this common to all bombers?

Aren't they calling it loading because they're talking about loading the airplane?

All bombers, the Air Force still has load masters, they are responsible for this now.

So... landing this thing after a bombing run with half the aircraft skin blown away by flak, only part of the tail, part of a wing shot off, and the electronic calculator not invented for forty years or so, must be hard to figure out the balance? Right out of the box the narrator is saying this thing is an unstable deathtrap.
@glennstubbs8232
@glennstubbs8232 Жыл бұрын
Every airplane is an unstable death trap. Every plane, big or small, should have a weight and balance done before every flight, or you can end up in the bottom of a smoking hole. Every plane has a weight and balance chart that is required to be in the plane.

I swear that the Captain in this film is Tom Neal, the not very well known actor before the classic 1945 film: Detour (1945) [Film Noir] [Drama] kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpLTZ2qBn8-Dq5o

So, why did they scrap this and change the A-26 to B-26? Another fine decision by the Brass...
@christophersilsby7829
@christophersilsby7829 Жыл бұрын
The A-26 does not have a basic bomb bay area in the design of the airframe. The basic B-26 has in the design a bomb bay and doors that has to open before it drops the load. An attack aircraft can be made from a bomber but not the other way around
